Melo doesn’t think he’ll need shoulder surgery

According to Carmelo Anthony, he doesn’t think he’ll need surgery on his shoulder.

ESPN New York quotes Anthony as saying his “shoulder feels much better,” at an event in Brooklyn on Thursday.

“For the past 4-to-5 weeks, I’ve let it rest,” Anthony said. “It’s still not 100 percent yet.”

I'm stunned to see so many Isles fans who hate this pick.  I was really disappointed when the Wings picked Larkin over Ho-Sang.  Larkin is a good, steady, dependable player, who will be on the Wings for years, but nothing beats a guy who scores a ton of points; something that Ho-Sang has shown he can do. He'll put on weight.  He may even gain an inch, or so.  Even if he doesn't, there are plenty of great players who played at 5-11, or even shorter.

This pick tells us that Wang isn't selling this team anytime soon . They didn't like Niño N was out spoken, only playing on the 4th line, but this kid is ok??? Oh I forget he have 2 A## holes running this organization and tools.

Snows comments just made it worst for him to trade for players on his comments I don't care what anyone thinks....accept for our fans. If you cared about us you would listen they don't.

I blame soley Wang he's had a scratchy past and now destroying this once proud franchise even more so what Garth snow interviews....

I am done with this team a fan since 1982! Next wangs kid is going to be assistant GM.

Good for Snow. That's a great way to protect and be behind your team. Wish we saw that from him a little more.

No doubt he is a talented kid but his  size is an issue with me, it will take him several years to fully develop, and mature, so at this point I am not impressed with Snow and his picks, unless he does  something big on 7/1 then phooey on that.

Ho-Sang and The Boss have the same birthday! That removes any doubt!

Really interesting pick and worth the minimal risk.  The kid is really quick and fast, with good hands.  Very skilled and dynamic with the puck.  It would be fun to watch him line up with Strome or even Grabner.  I hope his +26 means that he's not a liability on the defensive end.  It'll be interesting to watch him develop.

HoSang could be great if he can mature mentally, be more of a team player, become much more responsible defensively and put on a bunch of weight/muscle.  I see ability (a lot of ability) AND a lot of ?'s.

Still very bummed we could get more immediate help or a little more size in the draft if we couldn't move the pick.

I'm happy with those picks

We had a clear hole in our prospect pool at wing- 1 or both of these guys will be a top six wing

How does anyone complain about drafting small players when we passed on ehlers and nylander to pick 6-2 del colle ......and have a bunch of 6-2 plus defenseman coming .It's ok to gamble on a small player with some of the picks.

When Garth trades up - he seems to get it right.....

Wang once told me it's a waste to use first round picks on guys who are at best 3rd liners.....is he wrong.

Snow says he will fit right in, I agree he will fit right in, in Bridgeport for about the next 3/4 years.

I don't know much about Ho-Sang except what I have just read today and seen on tapes.  I just saw his interview with EJ Radek and I will say that I think he said all the right things.   He talked about doing whatever the Isles want him to do - if they want him to clean things up, he will.  And he also talked about how excited he was to be able to play with Dal Colle, and that he's known him a long time.  I'm sure the Isles knew that and fell that him being friends with Dal Colle and the prospect of growing with him may get him to the maturity that he needs.

I guess we'll see what happens, but taking a top 20 ranked player at 28 isn't bad, especially since he is the 2nd 1st round pick.

Good job snow. Hey Mark Cuban has said worse. Even though his trades and choices destroyed us. I might have some respect for him. Let your anger out. About time.

Too small are they the only team in the league that thinks they can win with small players? He will never step on the ice for them, you are supposed to take chances on big people not small ones.  Ya gotta love this management

We got two good forwards which we desperately need in the future.  Good draft.  Please watch videos on youtube of Ho-Sang.  He looks great!

What happened to that famous psychological test the  Isles used to use to rate their draft picks? that always seemed to work!LOL!  It  just seems Snow is always reaching, never really filling needs!

I agree with the Snow bashers tonight - he's a LOSER and has NO CLASS for saying that.  Completely embarrassing to represent NYI and act like that. Very unprofessional.

snow must go!

Seems like a lot to give up to move up 8 spots but ISS had him ranked 18.  Going into tonight our top wing prospects were:

COLLBERG- skilled but little production in SEL

2 KIRILLS- looking less and less likely we'll ever see either of them in an Islander jersey

CAMMARATA- intriguing but not too many 5'7" players who are not great skaters in the NHL

Dal Colle and Ho Sang definitely provide us with some depth at wing.

No way this team makes the playoffs next season.

@David Di Gesu Except, I didn't hear Josh Ho-Sang saying he wanted to be traded. Instead, I hear a potential superstar saying he's grateful for the opportunity. I believe this pick is a no-brainer for the Islanders. His upside is huge. 91 needs to take this kid under his wing, and show him the pro way.

Don22

@David Di Gesu You keep making these threats yet you are still here.

I am convinced that you are not really a fan and just a troll.  Rangers?  Devils? Which is it?  And you copy and past the same exact things - literally.

Please just go be a Devils fan and be done with it.

@jepliberty How big do you think Kane is ? I hear a lot of scout's comparing him to Kane. Time will tell, but I believe this pick was warranted.

@Don22

Don the kid is so skinny, he may excel in the junior leagues but he'll get killed in the NHL, or don't bring him up until he puts on about 35 pounds. When is Snow going to wake up and realize the Kings win because they are a BIG team.

nyicdneh
nyicdneh

This kid has the same skill set as jt and ko. We need players that can effectively carry the puck into the offensive zone. We haven't had a player to fulfill that capacity since Blake was on the isle. Bailey was suppose to be that player but he hasn't panned out. With this pick now I see him getting shipped. Watch ho-sang's videos he has a strong presence with the puck and positions himself in a timely manner to put the biscuit in the net. Like what I see. If jt and ko take him under their wing

we have drafted two emerging stars for the future

Robert Klein
Robert Klein

@nassau1 dude, buy a drink and lay off the cap locks, the kid was supposed to go higher and probably would have been gone by the isles second round pick.... unless you know of a better prospect that they should have taken none of us here know the kid and the isles tend to do ok when trading back into the first round (Nelson, De Haan)

metzfan22

@tpjm Also, he was also talking about you, which is probably why you're offended. You got burned by the Isles GM on TV.

metzfan22

@tpjm Oh stop. It's the 's' word. Not like they haven't heard it before. And since when do you care about the hockey media? The same media that treats our team like that same 's' word.

@nyi5

Agreed. If Snow was looking out his window and a garbage truck goes by yelling garbage, garbage for collecftion, Snow would yell back i'll take 3 bags.

Don22
Don22

@orange2327 So you can't be good in the NHL at 5'11 and 180?  They traded 2 2nd round picks for a guy that was rated top 20, but dropped because he has a screw loose.  The pick to be worried about was the #5, and he did fine with that.  This pick is gravy.

Don22
Don22

@jepliberty @Don22  I get what you are saying, but plenty of skill guys that size have done well in the NHL  Girioux, Oshie, St. Louis just to name a few.  And let's not forget he's only 18.  Chances are pretty good he puts on at least 10 lbs or so.  Even JT had to gain some bulk.

They picked a guy at #5 that has size and can help next season, if not the next.  The 2 picks given up to get Ho-Sang were probably not going to see the NHL for a number of years, so this pick is pretty much gravy.   Ho-Sang might take a couple of years, but if he can keep his head on straight he can really be a good player.  You don't have to be 6' - 200+ to be successful.  Sure it helps, but skill is important too.

Robert Klein
Robert Klein

Everyone passed on zetterberg too, I'm sorry that not immediately rejecting the idea of something (this pick) having the possibility of working out is not to your likeing and btw holland kassian runblad and Leblanc were taken before Kreider too not everyone is perfect but dehaan is looking like a pretty damn good player

jimmydev
jimmydev

@Robert Klein @nassau1 Dehaan are you freaking kidding-they could have stayed put and drafted Kreider, this management team are fools plain and simple!

tpjm

@metzfan22 He deserves to be crapped on by fans, canadian media etc. Too many tire fires and LOSING.

nyi5
nyi5

@metzfan22 @nyi5 Nothing left to say. He keeps failing to improve the team for the present. By the time the 2 kids picked today are ready, JT91 will already have asked for a trade. The kid's a winner and there's only so much of the last place finishes he will want to be a part of. Sad but true.

Robert Klein
Robert Klein

@nassau1 @Robert Klein I read the scouting report too, its a late first round pick that they are trying to make something special out of.  Whats the risk? And its called sarcasm, no one is forceing you to get a drink....people get really worked up about a draft pick that no one knew they had until an hour ago.

Don22
Don22

@nyi5 @metzfan22 What would you have liked done?  Don't tell me he should have traded the #5 for an established player.  It is plainly obvious by the lack of trades that nobody was willing to trade much for the higher picks.  Not only were there no trades, but most of the picks were chalk.

I would have liked to have seen them trade the pick for someone who can help them now, but that trade was not there so deal with it.

nyi5
nyi5

@Don22

I am dealing with it. I'm also ready to deal with another last place finish next season...Hope you are too.

Don22
Don22

@nyi5 @Don22 We shall see.  I don't blame you for being ticked. But you can't be mad at them for not trading for help now when it's obvious that trade was not there to be had.  If we saw other teams trading away their top picks, that would be one thing - but nobody was trading the picks.

It's one thing to be mad, but at least be reasonable about it.

nyi5
nyi5

@Don22

Let me make it clear, I have no problems with the picks today.

My problem is with the GM going on radio, tv and print saying he needs to get immediate help for the team and failing to do so. It is understandable that he did not have a trade partner but he should have sweetened the pot a bit. IMO there is one truly untouchable on this team and a few that you'd have to be wowed to trade. That being said I'm sure you could have dangled a prospect or 2 for the shot at someone for immediate help. The names Kane, Boychuk and Marchand are out there and could have been had. Garth believed that the 5th would have been enough and failed at making an upgrade. I have absolutely no confidence that he will get a true impact player come July 1, if he does I will be ecstatic but knowing his track record I;m thinking no.

Getting Halak in the fold is good for 5 more wins and that's still not enough for the playoffs.

Don22
Don22

@nyi5 @Don22 You sound so sure that Kane, Boychuk and Marchand could have been had.  So what you are saying is the Islanders must be the only teams that would be interested in them, because nobody else traded for them either.

I am with you that they need immediate help.  That can still come via trades.  The Isles have a lot of youth that can be available.  But to be mad at something that just wasn't there is silly.  Again, if other teams were making deals or trading their top picks, then I would be mad too.  NOBODY was making deals.  You are making it sound like there were trades flying all over the place and Garth stood still.  That just isn't the case.
