USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo announced earlier today that 27 players have accepted invitations to attend the 2013 Men’s National Team mini-camp next month in Las Vegas. The list includes young players like DeMar Derozan, Kemba Walker and Tyler Zeller, but not Iman Shumpert.
“This is an important opportunity for each one of them because we will be evaluating which players will continue to be involved in future USA National Team training camps and teams,” Colangelo said, according to USABasketball.com. Previous mini-camp attendees include Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose.
Shumpert is a second-year player out of Georgia Tech who was on the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2012. He tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee during a playoff game against the Heat last season, forcing him to miss the rest of the series and significant time this season.
Marc Berman of the New York Post tweeted that there is a chance Shumpert could be an alternate.
