Agent: Copeland Will Draw Interest From Several Teams

Originally posted on ZagsBlog.com:

The Knicks made a qualifying offer to Chris Copeland Tuesday but he has interest from a number of teams, his agent told SNY.tv Tuesday.

Agent John Spencer confirmed that the Knicks offered $988,872 to Copeland, who is a restricted free agent and can begin negotiating with other teams on July 1.

The Knicks can match any offer up to $3.1 million — the mid-level exception.

“Chris’s preference is to be in place where he can play and really go out and make a contribution,” Spencer told SNY.tv.

You and your 4 goals a game will be missed!

Call me crazy but I think they should go after Ryan callahan, His style of play, and leadership would do wonders for this team

I know people are tired of talking or hearing about Islanders picks and prospects, but I find it intriguing that the Islanders have 6 picks in the top 100. According to Craig Buttons final list, he has four goalies in the top 100 which include Thatcher Demko, Alex Nedeljkovic, Mason McDonald and Ville Husso. You'd have to think that the Islanders will attempt to select one of those 4? Both Nedeljkovic and McDonald are ranked ahead of Demko on Craig's list.

I'll miss Nabby, but not so much as to have any regrets letting him walk. THIS TIME!  I only hate it when Snow lets a player walk that has real value, and just lets him go for nothing (PAP and others). Between UFA"s, FA's and compliance buy out players, I think we can lland something as a winger nd a recycled Dman.

I know it's a very unpopular opinion, but after the islanders address the D in the next couple of weeks.....I know i am going to be crucified for this ...But make another strong pitch to Vanek, that first line was Dominant for stretches

I think the isles should go after niskanen winnik and e kane...idk who I would get as a back up goalie...

Thank God Nabakov turned the Islanders down. I was beginning to worry that he might be back with Islanders again. Nabakov is a nice guy but his better goaltending years are behind him. Now can we concentrate on a very reliable backup goaltender for crying out loud.

Plenty of talent as far as backup goalies go, Snow should NOT have a problem there.  Halak was the big get.

As far as Poulin goes, I actually see some potential in him, more than I ever saw in Nillson.  I think Poulin just needs to work at the technical stuff.  He is good on his skates, quick and instinctive.   I'll be happy to have him starting in BP (stick in hand) as the backup to the backup.

I really think Vanek could be a possibility. He put up solid #s here and mentioned chemistry he had with jt and okie afterwards in Montrael. Lower the offer tho.

One right after the other won't sign to play here anymore. Only one signed Halek must do better!

I'd like to see the Isles sign Winnik from the Ducks.....good defensive forward with size and some skill.  Would be an excellent fit on the 4th line.

Hey, the Caps dressed their goalie video coach as a backup 2x. What's he doing? All I remember is he was a college goalie and 6'7". Yes this was meant as a joke. Much like the team being run by a goalie.

Weakest link in organization is wing and G. So the way Snow drafts is in bulk. He loads up on a position hoping a couple stick. That's why Dal Colle Elhers are the likely picks. Looks like that's the way it's gonna fall anyway. Either way it started with Colberg and I would expect a lot Ws and a couple of Gs this draft.

Agree on Cammaleri but not a lot of talk on him. Jokinen also good. Don't like Heatley. Vanek really hurt his value in playoffs and don't know how Minn fits him into their cap. Isles offered him a ton of cash, wonder if here reconsiders think we're the highest bidder. Hate what he did but that line worked real well.

Bye Nabby. We thank you for your time here and candid interviews. You are not a starter anymore. Neither is Marty in NJ.

I'd be looking at Greiss out in PHX real hard Garth. Maybe Chuckie "Sumo Goalie", may have a better idea. I heard he saw " The Waterboy", the other day and thought maybe one of the Ice Girls may very well be a female Patrick Roy. Sadly, that wouldn't even surprise me at this point.

We need to overpay a goalie, good defenseman, and LW. Someone. Anyone. I like Jokinen over Cammalleri. Jussi is awesome in shootouts. Him and Franzie would spell doom if that happened.

Anyway, in case anyone hasn't noticed, this is the last year we're paying Alexei Yashin $2.2M to stay at home. Who will help us to the floor now? Can we extend his buyout an extra 5 years???

After all that went on during the vanek debacle, I can't see the isles going after him again

I wonder if nabby wants to go to a contender this time.....

Cammaleri, Jokinen, and Heatley are all decent short term free agent options if Garth drafts Dal Colle or Draisaitl. Whether he moves the pick or keeps it, it should provide a long term solution for that 1LW slot.

Steve Lafleur

Agreed. But it's clear that he wants out of Toronto. If he does get a starting shot, it will be somewhere else in Canada (Winnipeg or Vancouver, I'd imagine).

Greg Mase

he's been injured lately and current contract is slightly higher than market value, but i'd take him back

would love that deal. reimer has tons of upside. but reimer wants opportunity to start somewhere. i don't think he'll get it

Steve Lafleur

He would have been a decent option for next year, but there are plenty of other choices (I still like the idea of shipping the second rounder acquired for Vanek to Toronto for Reimer).

@millhouse OK.  You're crazy.

That leadership isn't worth the money he will want.  It can be found elsewhere.

@mrcisback

Snow should don the goalie pads and earn his salary, because heaven knows he hasn't earned it as a GM.

I I could be assured he'd be healthy I'd say I'll take him for another yr, even though his best yrs are behind him.  The D always played smarter/better with him out there, and I hear nothing but good things about his leadership.

David, its the same all the time. Halak signed more for the opportunity to be the designated number 1 goalie, than the $. Not many teams are really looking for a #1 guy. The Isles are the team to play for as a resume builder, or to restart your career. Not a long term UFA destination. I'm sure we will look to ressurect David Booth's career on 7/1. He will be sold to everyone as a previous goal scorer just like Boyes was.

cginsc
cginsc

Ducks announced Hiller will be UFA on 7/1. He would be great to have. But I'm sure he'd want to be a starter like Halak.

cginsc

I'd sign KP to a 2yr 2way deal. He could at least be the AHL backup and 4th stringer NHL guy.

cginsc

Orange. I don't want to see Booth either. But those are typical moves our team would make. Only reason I mentioned him. I'm sure we're in the running for Jordin Tootoo as well.
