Anthony Could Sit Out Against Bulls

According to Marc Berman of the Post, Carmelo Anthony may choose to sit out again tonight against the Bulls in order to give the cut on his hand further chance to heal.

Carmelo Anthony has taken Tyson Chandler’s advice once already and he may take it again and miss Saturday night’s game with a cut left middle finger. Anthony could want to save himself for Sunday night when his former Nuggets invade the Garden.

As much as Anthony considers the Heat the biggest game of the season, he also doesn’t want to lose to George Karl’s Nuggets as he did last season at the Garden. The Knicks’ trip to Denver was cancelled last season because of the lockout and Anthony’s first foray to the Rocky Mountains since demanding a trade comes March 13.

I doubt the Nuggets game is really much of a factor at this point, but rather being cautious with his injury is really kind of a no-brainer. It’s not a serious injury, it’s the kind that will by definition heal with time, so there’s really no need to do anything foolish. And obviously I’m sure Melo will still get a satisfaction from beating the Nuggets, but at this point there’s pretty little left to prove in that regard, and I can’t imagine sticking it to Denver is something he really even worries about.

Not that it still wouldn’t put a smile on the faces of the rest of us.
