Beno Udrih requests trade from struggling Knicks

Beno Udrih has requested a trade from the Knicks (Begley).

According to league sources, the veteran communicated his wishes to the Knicks in recent days and the team will try to honor the request. This year, Udrih is averaging 19.9 minutes per game, scoring 5.9 points and recording 3.7 assists.

Harris Decker

Beno UdrihThis is an interesting story for a number of reasons. First, it seems as if Udrih isn’t the type of player that would do something like this. He’s in his ninth season and the Knicks are his seventh team. He won two NBA Championships in San Antonio, backing up Tony Parker, and is a respected veteran presence.

So why, with the Knicks season spinning out of control, would he request a trade? Well, why not?

The most obvious reason is that the team is point guard heavy. Raymond Felton has been bad, but is the solidified starter. Pablo Prigioni returned against the Nets yesterday and Toure’ Murry has played really well of late. That leaves Udrih as the odd man out. He’s averaging just 5.9 points per game, his lowest since 2006-07. The same goes for his assist numbers, which are at career worsts.

Coming off of a great season in Orlando, Udrih has been disappointing, but maybe his numbers only tell half the story. Could Udrih be looking to get out of New York because of bad blood? It’s been well documented that working for James Dolan isn’t a fun experience and maybe the same is becoming true of the Mike Woodson’s Knicks regime. The losses keep mounting — in more and more embarrassing ways — and the story broke after the Knicks hit rock bottom, losing to the Nets by 23.

Udrih hasn’t been good but who has on the Knicks? This month could be full of changes at the Garden and Udrih might become the first pin to drop.

Good for Beno.  Guy was basically lied to when he signed here by our incompetent "coach", who logic would dictate would stick with a 2 pg lineup that worked so well last year.  But of course logic and Woody don't go together.

Then Beno is forced into a starting role and does a bad job (but still a whole heck of a lot better than Fatty Ray) and all the "coach" can do is continue to criticize him and throw him under the bus whenever he gets a chance.  Lol, our freaking "coach" and the Dolanized media even started blaming Beno for Jr's mistake in that Houston game even though everyone knows that's a total crock.

I don't blame Beno.  Guy is a class act stuck in this Guitar Jimmy Circus ran by Ringmaster Woody and circus clown JR Smith.

The .500 Report.

Halfway through the season and it will take a 26-15 .634 run to get to even.

With the 27th best defense in the NBA, it's not looking promising.

Guys, we can only pray that NYC giving the garden a 10 yr extension on the lease forces BONEHEAD DOLAN to sell.... Until then, were screwed.... #thankmelater

as usual with everything pertaining to the knicks, they are in a no win situation. You cant let Melo leave without getting something in return, however Melo will not let it be known if hes opting out so the Knicks will have to ride out the season not knowing. Off season, melo leaves, knicks are back in full tank mode hoping to sign free agents in 2015, but nobody wants to play for the knicks because of all the chaos. Other scenario, Melo stays for 30 extra mill, knicks are paying a 31 yr old 30 million and the team still cant get any better than they all ready are.. so what do you do? first, you trade tyson for an expiring and a 1st, then you have a first this year and next which will be top 5.. if the plan is 2015, then might as well fully tank..and unfortuanelty means woody stays as coach because remember the idea is to be bad..

Udrih had a chance to go back to San Antonio this off season.  I'd imagine he's regretting his decision.

Say what you want about Mike Dantoni, but when things started to become a circus, at least he had the balls to step down. Mike Woodson has been the ringleader and is just so ill-equipped for the task its ridiculous. Im not saying we have a perfect roster but his lack of a gameplan along with burning out all of our key players is starting to take a toll. I love the way players are slowly calling him out. Time is running out Woodson.

@purehussle I think a 10 year vet has earned the right to ask for a trade if he wants too off this bummy lossing team! why you mad for???? Beno is doing better then felton! and hes our start starter! You talking trash up the wrong tree!

@purehussle

I'm sure that at the vet minimum, someone will trade for him. Beno is hitting 41% of his threes and is a solid 3rd PG.

Too funny when a PG is criticized for passing the ball to the NBA's reigning 6th Man of the Year.

@Kiyan Carter You are trading our 3 bigs, you plan on Tyler and Cole playing 5, with KMart and ???? at 4 Wallace???

@Knicks_Fanatic The roster can't be this bad, can it KF? I mean, I'm not saying we're a 50 win team but we're better than 15 wins, no? At the same time, we have a lot of inconsistent players that we "expect" to play consistently. The only consistent player is Melo. Used to by Tyson as well but he's been slacking (partly due to his bronchitis).

@rgm891He'll walk and we'll get nothing.  Zero chance Dolan will allow a trade because he's so stubborn.

@rgm891 honestly the under current management the knicks org does not deserve a warrior like melo. until someone buys out dolan they are lost.

@onewhoknix Woody aint leaving that money on the table... You well NOT YOU but Dolan will have to stop being his BFF for him to ever get outta here!!!!

@onewhoknix

D'Antoni is running the Laker with such studs as Ryan Kelly, Jodie Meeks, Nick Young, Robert Sacre, Manny Harris, Wesley Johnson, and Kendall Marshall. Despite playing in the West and with a talent outage, he has a better record and defense than Woody.

Chris
Chris

@onewhoknix He stepped down when Melo found out he went behind his back to get rid of him, someone told Melo, and Melo went off in practice. That day DumPhony left. You figure out why. He like Woody is a moron

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@onewhoknix Honestly, people gave Dantoni so much flak when he was not that bad of a coach.  Yes, he did not emphasize defense but he was given a junk roster the first two years he was here.  Even the second year when the team started to play better then we started trading everyone.  And then once he got his team, that team was blown up mid season to get Melo.  Then the next year he was given a team with no PG.  I'm not saying Dantoni is great coach, but Woodson basically kept his offensive philosophy/game plan in tact and the only difference is that when things get tough he relies on Melo or JR ISO.  And the thing Woodson was supposed to be good at, defense, is actually worse now than it was under Dantoni!

@SheSaidSpikeWho @Knicks_Fanatic The Knicks are making it so easy for opposing offensives to score point on switching.  All the time is Bargnani on the PG. Constant open three pointers.  What a quick confidence booster for these teams when they play us because they're constantly shooting three's, having dribble penetration.  All woodson is doing is blaming his players.  The wrong one's to be honest.  He needs to switch his stubborn ways because he's so predictable. In that respect I don't think we're better than a 15 point team because he's playing felton 31 minutes over a player such as murry who will at least play defense.

rgm891
rgm891

@Tomas @rgm891 I 100 percent agree man!!! Do you think the Knicks are going to active by this deadline. The only thing I can think of is that they're giving woodson the full year and possibly making player changes and try to make a run? I mean it's stupid beyond belief but what else can Dolan be thinking? I have run out of answers.

Chris
Chris

@Blaze NYK @onewhoknix The junk included Crawford, Lee and Zebo, not my idea of junk. They had the talent to win, but chose to score points and give up games

Knicks_Fanatic

@purehussle

Why would we do that? Neal is another shooting guard to go along with JR, Shump, THJR, and Murry. If Felton or Pablo go down, we can't play Neal.

Chris

@RespectDaColor @Chris Biggie, where you ben hiding? Wade has deteriorating knees, has nothing to do with conditioning. Pat has had those rules since he coached LA, know Mitch, it has been on all kinds of broadcasts. Did it with Knicks. How long you been a fan son?

Mr.Boots
Mr.Boots

@RespectDaColor  Riley has done that for years, even when he coached the Knicks. Come to training camp over-weight, you don't get on the court until you make weight. Put on weight during the season, you sit until it comes off.

Common knowledge to anybody who has followed Riley's career. You don't have to be obnoxious to a poster here because you're too young, too new to basketball, or too unknowledgeable or are you just spouting off..

@rgm891 @Tomas i think dolan is in "i'm the boss here" mode and throwing his weight around. he's not letting the press, the fans or anyone push him around. he seems to have some psychological issues so there is no telling why he is doing what he is doing.

@Knicks_Fanatic He chose to run that way, didn`t want a big. Wasn`t Tim M on the roster?

Knicks_Fanatic

@Chris@Knicks_Fanatic@Blaze NYK@onewhoknix

All that doesn't change the fact that D'Antoni ran with Duhon, Harrington, Nate, Q-Rich, Jeffries, Tim Thomas, and youngsters David Lee and Wilson Chandler. They had no bigs and no decent PG. You can't win in the NBA with that roster. 32-50 was about right for that group.

Chris
Chris

@Knicks_Fanatic @Chris @Blaze NYK @onewhoknix Go check the rosters, Had they played smart ball they could have won. Dum was brought in to build stats to trade, not to win. To win Thibs or Mark would have gotten the job. DumPhony is just that, dumb, and a phony. His offense was used in  the 30s and forties by what is now URhode Island. It was called Firehouse ball at that time. The coach was Frank Menty Keany whose team was the first college team to average over 50 pts a game, and in 43 averaged 80 points per game. He is in the hall of fame at Springfield. Oh and they full court pressed, so they also played defense. He invented Dummys offensive philosophy. So Dum is a fraud in saying he invented antthing
