Carmelo Anthony explains his summer weight loss

Sam Spiegelman

Earlier this week, Carmelo Anthony posted a photo on Ingram showing off his slim new physique. Now he’s explaining why.

Anthony told the New York Post that he got into better shape to fit Phil Jackson’s Triangle offense.

“He wants to be as athletic as he was when he was a rookie,’’ a source told the newspaper. “Plus he wants to be a facilitator in the triangle and speed will help that.’’

Weight has never been an issue for ‘Melo, though he also has never had a LeBron-esque type of frame. Being in tip-top shape should allow him to better run the court and improve his stamina when it comes to his defensive intensity.

Anthony played at 240 pounds, according to the Knicks media guide for 2013-14, but played approximately at five to 10 pounds heavier during the season.

He looks much lighter than 240 now, to say the least. That’s a product of a three-workout-per-week routine, which included basketball and agility drills, in addition to weight training and yoga.

Three workouts a week? Lol. That's not exactly impressive...

Actually, this makes STAT even more of a factor. With that body, Melo playing the 4 is out of the question.

I bet the this amount of weight loss still isn't enough for the Melo haters....

@OLDKNICK3 Hmm. Didn't know that.

Seems Phil had Zennier plans for the lad.

Few more scrimmage dollars when you're thirsty is tempting.

Even when Phil Jackson is telling you to hold out a bit longer, C.R.E.A.M. rules.

Sure Utah told him he'd see some PT as well.

Interesting wrinkle in his FA story. Oh and I guess The Heat weren't interested enough. LOL

That clip hyped me up... When's preseason? Lol

@kofi  Yea, I've been trying to understand why we made this move.  I understand the need to balance the roster, but personally I think they give Outlaw a look, and then trade or waive him.  He just doesn't seem like a Phil type of player.  I think they were more intrigued by Acy, and Outlaw is filler.

That is a bs list.... someone drunk put it together

@brookdon Ooofh! Kobe lost his filter a decade ago. LOL

@brookdon. Funny thing is I was thinking the exact same thing. Unfortunately, Wiggins is going to Minny, so he will want out at the end of his contract

To be fair, Kobe pulled an Eli and wanted out of Charlotte, this is sort of revisionist.

@sir_manolo #ShotsFired. I'm not sure they're all Melo haters.. Some just didn't want to give him max $$ and some just wanted to trade him and start a rebuild... I'm glad he stayed tho and don't mind his contract. If and when the salary cap goes up, the contract will be fine and Phil will hopefully look like a genius!

@King Tkb and about Magic, Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem... and many more. There is no way Barkley, Robinson, and Melo are top five... The jury still out on Lebron for top five.

brookdon

I don't think Kobe ever was that great in international play

@brookdon. Eli was smart, so is his father... The Chargers GM is known to be a jerk.

Well yeah but for right now Love fits what they want to do more so than Wiggins does.

@greekfreak  I agree for the most part, but start a rebuild with what?!? Rebuild around who?!? Unless Lebron or Durant was coming here, there really isn't a better player in the NBA that the Knicks could have got that was better than Melo!!!

and I would have like Melo to have taken a 100-110million dollar contract, but after Bosh's deal, there was noooooo way Melo was going to take less than what Bosh got!!! So I'm not mad at the deal at all, and once again I agree,  once that salary cap goes up in 2yrs, Melo's deal won't look bad at all....

@knicksgirl35 Me too!

Look at him now! He about run silly on these players. Melo is going to be a terror!

greekfreak

@Tony Fonseca. The dream team guys only went once.. It's talking about Olympic career, not NBA career... Melo broke the all time scoring record with most points scored in least amount of time...

greekfreak
greekfreak

@sir_manolo. As I said, I'm glad we kept Melo, I was just stating others points of view. I wish Melo would've took way less to, but if I was Melo, signing probably my last big contract ever, I would have wanted a big payday too..

greekfreak
greekfreak

@KingTkB You know I'm a Knicks fan first, but die hard Melo fan, being that he went to Syracuse, whom I like, and won a championship pretty much by himself... Something Seikley, Owens, Coleman and Sherman Douglas couldn't all do together... And yes, Harden to me, is worse than Melo on D

@KingTkb @knicksgirl35 We know how ESPN  and Charles Barkley, in whcih btw Brent Barry doesn't care much for him during the 204-15 season announced, and Reggie Miller are, bunch of hypocrites, parasites, and *ss-kissers to LeBron James. Hopefully Melo for MVP, Knicks winning 1-2 NBA Championship

Tony Fonseca

@KingTkb. Oops... I take my comments back... I did not interpreted the comment properly.... sorry...

sir_manolo
sir_manolo

@that3agoodpoint of course there isn't, cause Melo was the best player the Knicks could have had this off-season and next... cause Love isn't a #1 option and can't carry a team the way Melo can, thus the reason why he's never seen the playoffs!!!

sir_manolo
sir_manolo

@that3agoodpoint  what speak the truth?!? cause the haters won't be happy until he magically transforms into Lebron or MJ?

@that3agoodpoint. Never-uary... Ive just been a fan since a youngster... I went to LaGuardia Community College :(

Ok fine whatever. Go ahead and call people out if it makes you feel better.

Yeah Melo may be the only player he actually has respect for.

Ah. I was a fan up until I went to see them my senior year on Columbus Day and there was a foot of snow on the ground.

Personally I am happy seeing his progress but there's really no reason to reduce what has been positive discussions back into a he said/she said piszing contest.

@that3agoodpoint  sounds like someone feeling guilty, I didn't call anyone out by name...

So I'm assuming you are calling yourself a Melo hater?!?

greekfreak

Yes. I've heard nightmare stories about the weather, but that's no reason to give up on them ;)... I would understand if it was when news of that assistant being a CHESTER came about tho...

that3agoodpoint

Yeah well it worked out alright for me. I went to Auburn instead and have a bad azs football team to root on.

greekfreak
greekfreak

@that3agoodpoint. Don't bother getting into it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. We all pretty much know how the next man feels, what's done is done.. We need to unite and hope for improvement. Imagine all being at the game together with our screen names on our shirts.? People would want to fight each other over beliefs, and we would all look like dumbies, IMO, fighting over beliefs, with fellow Knick fans

greekfreak
greekfreak

Oh nice!!! You were visiting there looking to attend college there? Very nice! And yes, Auburn is no joke in football

that3agoodpoint
that3agoodpoint

I know. It's in the past. Too many people hold grudges when all any of us want is to see the Knicks win.

So we all agreed on the destination but disagreed on the route.. Well we're not the ones driving and the bus is on it's way so why bother fighting on the routes anymore.

that3agoodpoint

I'm an Auburn grad. Was there from 99-2004. So I was there with Jason Campbell and Cadillac Williams and those guys. Fun time.

greekfreak

@that3agoodpoint. Agreed. If nothing personal is said, it's best for everyone to move on. Opinions are free of charge and if we all fealt the same, there would be nothing to talk about amongst each other.
