Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony interested in recruiting Pau Gasol to Knicks

Carmelo Anthony is still on his own free agency tour, but he asked for fellow free agent Pau Gasol’s phone number on Friday with the intention of recruiting him to the Knicks (Wojnarowski, July 3).

Gasol, 33, is seen as most likely to land in Chicago or Oklahoma City. However, while Gasol is seeking $10 million annually, he may be willing to take the $5.3 million midlevel exception if the right circumstance presents itself.

While Anthony has had meetings with the Bulls, Rockets, and Lakers, the Knicks are confident they’ll be able to hang on to him. That confidence, according to Wojnarowski, has been buoyed by Anthony’s reported interested in recruiting Gasol to New York.

better than losing gasol for nothing.

also, i would think the lakers would be inclined to get gasol out of the western conf, if they can't sign him themselves.
presently oklahoma is trying to convince gasol to sign there.
would the lakers really want him playing for western conf playoff teams (dallas, houston).
think maybe the soon to be mrs phil jackson could do her husband a favor here, keetp domestic peace, get back some young players & ship gasol to the east all in one deal.also the cap room for next year would not be enough for a max contract player due to pau gasol & calderon salaries but it would be enough to land pau's brother marc who also is best friends with calderon.how do you think that triangle would work with calseron, 2 gasols & melo?

since the lakers are way under the cap, can't the knicks trade players making more salary than they take back in a sign & trade?

sending the lakers the expiring bargnani contract (12mil) along with shumpert (2.8mil) & larkin (1.6mil) would allow the knicks to sign gasol to @ 10mil, which may be his market value.
the lakers would be getting a somewhat serviceable forward but more enticing they would be getting 2 young players thought highly enough to have been taken in the 1st round.

To Melo,it's all about Melo...get rid of the bum. He's like the A-Rod of basketball. He could care less about the Knicks and NY.

Ahahahaha!! Melo is gonna destroy the Knicks by returning.

call me crazy but i think i know what Phil's plan is. Get Melo to come back. Sign Gasol to the minimum for just a year to play alongside his friend. You'll have Gasol at center Melo at pf shump at sf Hardaway at sg and calderon at pg. Off the bench you have guys like early, stoudamire, jr, kenyon martin, barnani, and pablo. This team is pretty good.

Then next year stoudamire see's we built a winner takes a huge cut to stay with the knicks i would say 5 mil a season. Pau will recuit his brother Marc to come over to the Knicks at about 15 to play the power forward Pau re-signs for 3 years at 10 a piece. Melo moves back down to sf and then we have we cut jr hardway becomes our new starting sg we sign Rondo for the point at 10.

At this rate you have a legit powerhouse. This is why Melo signs this year along with Pau. It's pretty much the only destination he could team up with his brother.

Question:   With our current cap situation, does the new CBA allow us to do sign and trades?

@Piotrek Świątek pau isn't going to sign for the minimum. rondo isn't getting signed for 10 million.

why? once again, do you realize what this team would be without melo? do you realize how many years in a row we would be horrible? who is going to even consider coming to the knicks if melo isn't here?

We can send out a player in a sign and trade, but can not receive one.

@Knicks_Fanatic I think the impasse with Miami's big three free agents makes it difficult for Riley and the front office to pitch a definitive number to prospective free agents. I've hear various reports that rebutted earlier reports about Bosh and Wade settling for 11 and 12 million annually respectively. Now it seems that Bosh wants to get paid in the 16-17 million dollar per year range and Wade may be willing to settle for a deal starting in the 10's of millions. But nothing is set. So ho can Riley pitch a clear and certain salary to any prospective free agent.

Me thinks they are in a conundrum.
