Although it’s not likely to happen, Carmelo Anthony is holding out hope that the Knicks can find a way for him to team up with LeBron James in New York next season (Berman, July 8).
According to reporter Marc Berman, citing a source, Anthony “really wants LeBron to come to New York. That’s his dream right now. Phil [Jackson] is trying to get it done.’’
In order for the Knicks to even have a chance to lure James, Phil Jackson would have to clear cap space by moving Amar’e Stoudemire, Andrea Bargnani and perhaps Iman Shumpert.
The Knicks have reportedly engaged the 76ers in talks revolving around Stoudemire.
In any scenario where James and Anthony team up with the Knicks, both players would have to sign for less than max value.
It’s expected that Anthony will choose his destination within the next few days.
