Carmelo to play against Spurs

Carmelo Anthony will play against the Spurs on Thursday night, he told reporters.

Anthony has missed three games — during which the Knicks have gone 0-3 to fall to 9-21 — but he ran on Sunday and Monday for the first time since injuring the ankle Dec. 23 against Orlando.

Melo coming back of an ankle injury, to play all these minutes in Woodson's "offensive system." What could go wrong?

Jonah Ballow: Woodson said there are no minutes restrictions for @Carmelo Anthony tonight. #Knicks Twitter @jonahballow - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.hn29y78j.dpuf

Now I'm no doc, but you'd think that your most important player, playing through injury, shouldn't really be playing 45 minutes a night...

Very difficult to remain optimistic about this team changing it around in the New Year because it's the same core of guys, there are no changes made to the lineups or rotations being made. I doubt players are going to play harder, even if they do you cannot count on that to continue over a period of time.

But because I'm a Knicks fan at heart I hope the display some sort (if any) of life.

To begin this journey in trying to turn this thing around I would change the starting lineup-- Murry-Shump(THjr)- Melo-STAT-Chandler. With Beno, JR, Bargs, K-mart of the bench.

I wonder if we'll get a game thread or if the blog will continue to play dead for games just like the Knicks.

The Knicks will win tonight. It's called the "getting a good new teammate" bump. I really wish Woody wasn't so f-ing clueless.

I say we get smacked by 25 to bring in the year right. Then again, knowing the knicks they'll win the hardest game, while continuing to tank the easiest.

Question? Can you trade, for example, JR Smith and Felton to a team for a much lesser player and their amnesty clause? then maybe we can use it on Amare or wait and trade Amare as an expiring contract and amnesty another player and get well under the salary cap?

We do have a bad team though, I mean so much for potential, I think Charlie Ward and Chris Childs would do miracles and are both better players than Felton or Priggs, Starks would be an all star and is better than JR, Oakley/Barngiani no comparison! you put Melo on that Knick Squad we'd of been had a championship or 2 in NY.

@bloop  "A healthy Stat with Melo would've been problems for everyone. I firmly believe that. We saw glimpses that fateful playoff night in Boston."

Are you referring to the 2010-2011 playoffs?  Carmelo and STAT had alternatingly good games that series (Amare's playoff performance in Game 1 was incredible . . .).  They certainly had the potential to be potent offensively, but defensively . . . I dunno.  To me, the Carmelo-Amare-Chandler frontcourt - even when healthy - just seemed too awkward to ever be contender-worthy on its own (without a star PG).

@rkj473 At this point, while Woodson's around, all we can ask is what you say: hustle, energy. Some steel balls basically.

If this is accompanied by certain players regaining their form, most notably Shump, MWP, AB, this team might just survive Woodson's weak coaching.

Hopefully Melo finds his footing quickly (but don't epect 40 pt game from him right out of the gate), because, as we've seen, he's the only one that can carry this team.

@rkj473 I will continue to be optimistic that Skeeter will be fired Phil will step in and the team will gain a renewed spirit and a winner's mentality. It's keeps me going.

I honestly love hearing this from Melo.

@OLD_KNICK They say he's sensitive?  LOL..thick skin, I like it.  He does get frustrated pretty easily on the court  though.

@OLD_KNICK He realizes that you're praised when you win and torn to shreds when you lose. That is the nature of sports---especially in NY. He is not delusional like some of his fans. He knew what he was getting into coming here. He knew the risks yet he wanted to play here anyway. Anyone else in the NBA with those kind of ballz?

@kneggyknik We had a post about Metta draining his knees that lasted over a day with no other content......A joke is an understatement.

@VerySilentJay @rkj473 That's alot to expect from the guys mentioned. Bargs seems like he only shows up for the first half of games. While Shump has been wildly inconsistent with his shot and on the defensive end.

But I agree, I think Shump more than anyone NEEDS to get his act together and become the player  he was last season draining that corner 3 and playing solid defense.

knowing all that, it might be too much to ask from these guys.

@MetsKnicks @MeloStat301 Love the enthusiasm, I just don't trust the coach to make right decisions and outclass guys like Pop or Carlisle, who run well oiled machines.

@bloop The production from the perimeter - PG & SG - has been absolutely deplorable most nights.  There have been nights where our backcourt (bench AND starters) are putting up 10-15 points combined.  It's unbelievable.

I wholeheartedly agree that a legit PG would help this team considerably.  We see glimpses of this when Pablo is directing the offense and when Ray is attacking the rim . . . unfortunately we cannot combine their abilities.

@rkj473 @Kojo Brown As of now is the key phrase. Rich folks hate to lose. More than that they hate to keep losing. He'll change some things.

rkj473
rkj473

@Kojo Brown @rkj473 No I definitely don't, however, since he said that the teams hasn't played any better, and the only "move" made was getting rid of Chris Smith in favor of Tyler.

As of now, it sure looks like he's keeping his word.

@Kiyan Carter Don't challenge Sandro. At best, he's wrong and you can't prove his wrong so he'll keep hammering you. At worst, you are wrong and he'll make you look dumb.

And most likely, you are both wrong and I am right. About what, I'm not sure.
