Carmelo told Jackson will join front office, won’t impact free agency

Carmelo Anthony told reporters that he was notified that Phil Jackson will be joining the team’s front office a few days ago.

Anthony has never spoken to Jackson in his NBA career.

As for how Jackson will impact Carmelo’s future plans, the superstar said it won’t affect him.

“I don’t think it’ll have any effect on me, just as far as what I’m thinking, my decision or anything like that,” Anthony said (Iannazzone, March 12). “I haven’t talked to Phil yet, just to get his insight on a lot of things, what’s his plan, what’s his future plan, because everything’s in his hands now.”

Sam Spiegelman

I think it’s crazy for Carmelo Anthony or for anybody to believe Phil Jackson’s presence in the Knicks organization won’t impact free agency, even in the slightest bit.

Time and time again, Anthony has stated that winning is his ultimate goal. Well, who knows more about winning than an 11-time NBA championship-winning coach in Jackson, who also earned a pair of titles as a player.

Jackson doesn’t have front-office experience. I say so what! He knows how to assemble a championship-caliber team, because clearly he had a say in both Chicago and Los Angeles. With the Knicks, he theoretically could put together pieces around Anthony to make the Knicks a championship contender, but if Anthony isn’t interested in hearing from the Zen Master, Jackson can assemble a team with new players.

If Anthony is wise, he should just remain stark about winning championships and play the rest of the season out. The Knicks are only 3.5 games out of the No. 8 seed in the East and the Jackson news — while welcomed — is just another way to bring up this summer.

If you find yourself not excited that Phil Jackson is coming to new york or you blame carmelo anthony for thhe Knicks losing this year you are simply not a Knicks fan. Sorry.

Melo is smart, you guys think because Phil Jackson has won 11 championships with the Jordan and Kobe means he is going to turn magically turn this mess around. He knows about coaching IDK about Front Office.

So many bandwaggoners around here. Instead of wishing for Lebron and Durant you should be supporting the guy that actually wanted to come here. The one who puts the team on his back every night.

It's so boooring---get Lebron get this one get that one. Yaaawwn

Ungrateful supposed fans. You sound more like Lebron & Durant fans.

It's the Freaking Zen Master we are talking about. He will put together a championship team thats why Kobe and Magic are so upset!!!!!

I'm glad that Phil is coming here. Magic and Kobe know how important Phil was to the Lakers success and they're upset that the Lakers will just let him walk away like that. Will Buss become the New James Dolan? Lol

I don't get many of you, why do you want melo to leave? He plays with so much heart, the guy does it all, he tries to carry the entire team on his back, I would take melo over 98% of any player in the nba. The guy wants to win a title, just like what we want, if im phil why would I want melo to walk? I would want to build around him. Melo belongs in NY that's the bottom line.

Phil is a winner and a great coach but I wouldn't say he assembled championship caliber teams. Last I checked Jordan & Pippen and Kobe & Shaq were both already in Chi and LA respectively when he took those head coaching jobs.

@Mets0987  I just got to ask.....

Who do you think built those teams in the later years in Chicago and during the whole time in LA? You think Phil went on a walkabout and let Mitch K put a group of guys together with out any input?

Add , that he runs a system called the TRIANGLE which is designed to have certain types of players and coaches who know it and understand it.

I'm pretty sure that all this adds up to Phil Jackson having a pretty great idea of what to do should he become Prez of the Knicks.

@firebaldy If there's a realistic opportunity to get Lebron then i'll say go get him, but he's the last thing on my mind. I want to keep Melo and i believe Phil does to.

@rb3b3 Phil will throw his rings at Melo face and he will stay.

True. The Gasol trade and guys like Ron Harper and Rodman are foils to that however.

@Brian Webster Very True. One his first jobs will be to see how he disassemble Mr. Potato head.

But your pt is truly spot on and that is why we have to give Phil the time to do this right. There is no magic bullet coming next year.

@MeloStat301 Yeah I said he's a winner and a great coach but the post says Phil assembled those championship teams and he didn't do that. Hell he came to LA and won the 1st 3 years with basically the team that was already there. The Knicks aren't hiring Phil to be a coach they're hiring him to work in the front office and assemble a winning team which he's never done. Maybe he will be great at it maybe he won't. I'm just pointing out you can't really predict Phil's performance here with his past success because he's now doing something different here than he's done in the past.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@MeloStat301 He said assemble the teams Remember GM Krause helped put that team together and then he and the owner decided that they were so awesome that they could build a new MJ, discarding the older one prematurely and win championships forever.

True, The 1.5s weren't that bad. When it comes to athletes Like Lebron, and Durant Nike makes better shoes than Jordan lol.

@Kiyan Carter LOL That's called being nice. Kobe don't have to talk crap because he has the rings and the alcolades of being the next best thing to MJ.

Melo plays in the East and during playoff time int the clutch, he's no Kobe. .

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Kiyan Carter Even now! Kobe could guard Melo but I betcha Melo can't guard Kobe.

Kobe is a much smarter b-ball player period.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Kiyan Carter Once again you're looking at stats.

Kobe is a better ball player than Melo period!  I know you're only 25 but even you should know the difference between steak and spam!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Kiyan Carter Did they make the playoffs? Howard sucked there and he was hurt. Nash too and still is hurt.  They also had Pringles.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Kiyan Carter So you're saying Melo is a better winner than Kobe?

A hurt Kobe on this team and we make the playoffs! lol

Kobe will win us more games because in the clutch, he will take it to the hoop more and get on the foul line.  He's a smarter player than Melo.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@lobcity Once again, Shaq was pissed at Kobe and LA. He already had his rings.

Boston already had Pierce and Jefferson and Rondo.  They were able to trade Jefferson, 3 others, picks for KG and get Allen that same year.

Who can we get like that with our roster next year? We have a mess!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Kiyan Carter Yep and that Kobe is still a better leader and winner than Melo.

Understand now? lol

@Kiyan Carter +1

Melo came here bc we had Stat. Dwight went to Houston bc they have Harden. Boston teamed bc Rondo and Pierce were there etc... We need Melo period.

@Kiyan Carter I'm gonna ask Phil to call you.  So stay by your phone because he might call you before Melo. lol
