Quote: Chandler after the loss to the Thunder

“We have to be better across the board. We have a lot of holes. If I started going over them all, I wouldn’t make it home for my kids to open their gifts.’’

-Tyson Chandler after yesterday afternoon’s Christmas Day loss to the Thunder.

Harris Decker

Obviously, Chandler is one of the guys that has to step up on this team. He’s one of the few veteran players on the team that is still playing at a high level. Between Chandler and Carmelo Anthony, the leadership on this team will be a key cog in turning this year around. Still only a few games out of first place in the Atlantic and a guaranteed playoff bid, Chandler and Anthony need to push the team back into last years form.

Can we give a HEALTHY Knicks squad a chance???  Now if you don't think we will ever be healthy, then that is a different story, but come on man!

A healthy squad (we need Shump to continue to come around and Stat staying healthy will be gravy!  A consistent Bargnani will help also! ) can beat Indy and Miami and they proved it!  They should have beat Indy earlier this year and beat Miami in many times last year!  Both teams have flaws as well!

Let get em healthy and see what happens in the playoffs which we will be in!

There is an 800 pound gorilla in the room that needs to be addressed when talking about Melo and the other superstars that are approaching 30. That would be the new CBA and what a 5 year contract in the $100-130 million would do to a team's ability to compete. Can a team sign a player to such a huge deal and still be able to build a championship team around them. You know that they are not going to produce at ages 34-35 like they will at 30-31. So signing them to a contract with raises is a poor move from a competitive standpoint.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the current crop of stars; Melo, LeBron, Bosh, and Wade when they opt out or let their deals expire. Will they sign for less or go for the dough?

So specific to Melo, what does he want to be paid. Note that Kobe signed for just enough to make him the highest player in the game. If Melo gets the max, he is the heir apparent to the throne. So when projecting his trade value, it will depend on what he wants to be paid. The Knicks got him initially with a three year extension at $65 million. That's a far throw from 5 years at $130 million, especially with him at age 35.

Can't argue with much here, cept that I think we can beat Indy with a healthy lineup.

I am starting to question Woodson's in game coaching, but he echoes my sentiments (ny post)

'Orlando was the first time all season we had Raymond, J.R., Iman [Shumpert], Melo and Tyson on the floor, we looked like our team from last season,’’ Woodson said before the Thunder game. “I walked in at halftime. I felt good how we played in the first half. It was the first time from a coaching standpoint that I felt good about what I saw. Then the injuries hit us again in the third quarter.'

@Cice Boogie I disagree. This team has yet to prove that they can play playoff level ball. They seem to step into the floor assuming they're gonna lose.

Their comments after games consistently hint that they're not happy at the way Woodson's gone about certain things.

Woodson's throwing players under the bus... Right now the Knicks are in complete chaos.

There has been no indication that this team is even ready to compete at a higher level.

Bottom line, the talent is there, but there the coach isn't smart enough to put it all together.

@Cice Boogie

When you have a coach who overplays his players, they may never get healthy. Other teams play their players far less and manage minutes. Pops gives his older guys days off.

Then you have a team that signs older players that tend to get injured more easily. Prigioni and K-Mart are at the end of the road. Felton has a tendency to be out of shape. JR was signed needing serious knee surgery. MWP has bad knees. K-Mart couldn't even participate in training camp.

These injuries just aren't a run of bad luck. The organization was short sighted.

Despite injuries, Knicks are still under performing. Celtics and Lakers have injuries and inferior rosters but have several more wins than the Knicks.

@Cice Boogie THESE GUYS DON'T WANT TO PLAY FOR WOODSON! If he stays on, this team is doomed.

@Marvel It is shocking to see Woodson with a job. This makes me think that Dolan will stick with him through the entire season.

We're reaching the point where's PNR with him. Either you fire him and bring in fresh air, or you play out the season with Woodson.

@Knicks_Fanatic I believe Melo will last longer than folks think. He did the right thing in not having shoulder surgery and letting it heal naturally. It's not the injuries that do NBA players in, it's the surgery. Every invasive surgery weakens whatever is being cut on. It does not make the body stronger at all. Melo hates surgical procedures which gives him the advantage in longevity.

@Knicks_Fanatic

just posted that we can't form a competitive team while paying Melo 130 mill. you just can't. We would be in the same position where in now in a few seasons guarantee it.

Unless he's already agreed to take much less, you move him for the best deal and build the right way.

we won't do this but it's what should be done..

When you give up picks for bargs you know the people  in power will f upssooner or later.

@Knicks_Fanatic @Cice Boogie Things must be placed in context first, though.

- Prigs resigning was cheap, and given the way he played last season and the durability and consistent play he showed, imo, it was a no brainer. Felton's injury issues all season long have forced Prigs and Beno to play extended minutes. This wasn't the plan.

- Kmart was big for this team last season. I think this can't be denied. Given the lack of resources and lack of decent big men in the "vet min/they suck" bin, there weren't a lot of options.

- I think a lot of peopel give Felton sh¨t for his weight, but apparently no one's seen him through his career. The dude's always looked like that. He's a big boned pitbull. Even back in his NC days. The only real time he was truly out of shape was in Portland, that can't be denied. An consistently out of shape player/athlete like him doesn't make it to the NBA in the fashion he did, with all the accolades he gathered in the process.

- JR's case was unexpected, but, after the season he had, was there a better option for a 6th man at that price?

why cant people see this...i agree 100% and if im not mistaken when we started the season  in the whole other top tier teams didnt do that either

@smiggybalz I kinda feel sorry for Felton. He is from South Carolina and that food is awesomely good.

@bockers I don't know about all of the other the stuff you said but yes definitely keep Thjr and Melo.

mello is still getting slower and he already cant jump like he use to in denver ..so i wouldn't guarantee he hold up any longer than normal plus he is a bigger body type and  not sure of the type of player he can become once he loses the little bit of athleticism  he has left...he already doesn't like running so ..cant turn him into a ray allen ..

@Marvel@Knicks_FanaticIt's not Melos' contract that will inhibit the team.  It's the contracts of Amare, Bargs, and Tyson coming to an end that will provide flexibility.

@VerySilentJay@Knicks_Fanatic@Cice Boogie

I'm not knocking the individual signings of Prigioni, MWP, K-Mart, and JR in any way. Of course, there is a risk in signing any player. All have potential for injury. What I'm looking at is the fact that we chose players that the risk was greater than average. You can manage risk and signing older players increases the likelihood an injury will occur. In addition, it takes older players longer to heal.

to motivate and put players in the best situation to succeed and yes coach woody is the worst at that he should be fired i called for his head last year even after the 54 win season and people thought i was just crazy..but they see it now

@MOSTHATED1 I kinda agree with you on that. Another question though. Why do teams have coaches?

all you have to do is frustrate the knicks a bit and they will crack...they are mentally weak

fasheezee

@xmenreturn @Cice Boogie @Kojo Brown What if 80% of winning is mental? What if confidence and motivation is the deciding factor in getting a team over the hump? I know the Knicks could use some key pieces to give Melo some help but BELIEF goes a mighty long way.

@Cice Boogie@Kojo BrownDude, This Knicks team will not beat Indy or Miami in a series.  Any team can beat another team 1 time by catching them an opportune moment.

fasheezee

@Cice Boogie @Kojo Brown So do I. They are a very capable team but good/great teams needs competent coaching. I gotta admit I love my Knicks and they deserve better than ignorance, stubborness and stupidity.

fasheezee

@MOSTHATED1 Not saying Melo has been corrupted. He seems to be one of the only NBA guys who does the right thing family wise for the most part. I respect Melo for that.

@MOSTHATED1 40 is the new 20. If we take care of our bodies, minds and yes, spirits we can last long beyond what we think. A lot of these guys are morally and spiritually corrupted because of all the money and fame at an early age.

MOSTHATED1

true but honestly ..do you think there is a drug for aging...when you get old you get old ..there nutting to help you there cant beat father time.and the wear and tear on your body and muscles from the sport its just life at that point...

fasheezee
fasheezee

@MOSTHATED1 If he truly wants a championship, which I strongly believe he does, he'll take advantage of all of the off season tips and tricks Lebron and his crew adhere to. With all of the information out there about how to stay healthy, reverse aging info and the like---if athletes who have crazy money to spend on staying healthy don't stay healthy then they are just lazy slugs who are not serious about attaining their supposed goals.
