Chris Smith: ‘Happy for the opportunity’

Chris Smith said he was, “happy for the opportunity” with the Knicks, he told SNY’s Adam Zagoria.

Smith is expected to be waived by New York in favor of Jeremy Tyler.

J.R. Smith’s younger brother saw time in two games, but did not score.

New Thread Up... The official signing of Tyler.

A lot of undeserved hatred aimed at Chris Smith, No he is not an NBA talent but if you need to point blame blame, the front office and to some degree JR for the Chris Smith situation.

Anybody wondering about Bargnani's health with the Tyler signing? He reported that he was unable to turn his head due to a stiff neck. He missed more games than Amar'e the last two seasons.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION FOR SHUMPERT:

1. Get rid of the "Ben Wallace" video on the "Art of Jump Shooting"

2. Trash the Jamal Crawford video of " Stop your man on Defense"

JR sang a different tune last year when it came to a contract that many felt wasn't deserved.

Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.

"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

Can we turn this into a Jeremy Tyler thread? I think he can actually help this team. He can actually rebound (unlike anyone not named melo (never thought I'd ever say that)), and he's probably better on offense than say chandler. I just hope he's not gonna be injury prone.

It just hit me.  We actually have a Chris Smith thread.  Times are bad folks.

lol.  Of course Chris Smith is "happy for the opportunity".  He didn't deserve it all by any stretch and won out the roster spot over far more deserving candidates just because of his brother.  Then the Knicks waited to cut him until after his contract became guaranteed.  I'd be pretty happy for the opportunity to get a 400k + gift just for being someone's brother too.

To be honest without making excuses... I don't see how Chris Smith would have played worse than Shumpert. Shumpert may be the most non productive starter in the history of the NBA.

In all honestly, Chris Smith has been classier than JR through all this.

@Knicks_FanaticI heard he is unable to turn himself to defend his man.  He has had that problem his whole nba career.

@lennynyk I know everyone is excited about his potential as a player but not with this coach and his refusal to "play rookies."  Honestly I just don't see where Woody is going to find minutes to play Tyler.

Not to mention our front-court has ALOT of bodies. (Melo, STAT, Chandler, Bargs, Metta, Cole). That's alot of bodies for the amount of minutes there are to spread out between them.

@ds2488 Heck he could use that money to buy tickets for the "real Knick fans" to go back to the Garden and voice their displeasure of the job everyone is doing... including the Knickscity Dancers. They need to be distracting the other team players, dammit. lol I kid, I Kid.

@moneyball Obviously you didn't see Bobby Hurley play. Or Shelden Williams. Or Matt Carroll. Or Luke Walton. Or Jonny Flynn.

Like Chris Smith, they aren't NBA players. Euro ball? Maybe, depends on the league. NBA? No way.

@moneyball Him and JR both...Basically the 2 worst starting guards in the NBA.

I agree about Shumpert, but Chris Smith is not an NBA player. Tim JR wii eventually take Shumperts job.

Chris is just happy to have his $. He really did nothing wrong.

@lennynyk@PeteyWheatstrawI 'd take less than half to sit on the bench next  to Herb and ask him how to become the next black man on Dolan's payroll never to be fired.

lennynyk

@rkj473@lennynyk Yeah I wish stat and bargs had any ability at all to play the 4. That way you can have chandler starting at C and tyler backing him up. Cause cole doesn't play anyway, and metta probably shouldn't. Unfortunately stat and bargs are only even relatively successful when playing the 5, so yeah I dunno. I seriously hope Woody will find playing time, but you're right as horrible as he is, he might not even play him.

@VerySilentJay @moneyball

Terrible players

The players you mention were "Busts".... Chris Smith wasn't even on the Lottery radar enough to be a bust!

rkj473
rkj473

@ds2488 @moneyball JR should not be starting, he is best coming off the bench, basically playing against the other team's second unit. Knicks (Woody) needs to get back to that.

@lindro88 I just wish I got the chance to see his game on court so I could justifiably blast his game and the nepotism. Reminds me of Dantoni picking Gallo.with our Lottery pick.

@BiggieSmalls @rkj473 That's because everyone was assuming that we would still be running the 2-pg system. That all changed to a more unconventional system and induced by injuries.

If we were still playing the 2-pg system with everyone healthy THjr would have a difficult time averaging 20 miuntes a game.

lennynyk
lennynyk

@BiggieSmalls@rkj473 yeah but knowing what we know now. we're super thin at the 2... and the 1... and especially the 4

rkj473
rkj473

@BiggieSmalls This team is very thin at the SG position, so yes it is out of necessity. If that position was loaded or had another veteran SG there is no way Woody plays THjr 20 minutes a game.

If the Knicks were running the two-point guard system that made them successful last year THjr would not be averaging 20 minutes.

rkj473
rkj473

@Knicks_Fanatic @BiggieSmalls @rkj473 That's because they were playing well when they were on the floor. Not to mention the team was very successful when they we playing.

You won't NOT play someone when they are playing well.

Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieSmalls@rkj473

They said the same thing about D'Antoni, despite the fact he was starting Fields and Mosgov. People with fixed belief systems don't cotton well to facts.

Last year Woody played Copeland and Prigioni plenty.

rkj473
rkj473

@BiggieSmalls @tommy2b I wouldn't say it "dispells the myth," I would say he is playing him out of necessity and because he has no where else to go.

If Shump and JR was both playing well, there is no way THjr would be averaging 20 minutes a game.

tommy2b
tommy2b

@BiggieSmalls ?? your post above was sarcasm?  lol It was either THjr or Chris Smith.  He doesnt win any points in my view for playing Timmy.

tommy2b
tommy2b

Exactly.  Why is JR playing so many more minutes than THjr?  Timmy's also outperforming Shump.  I'm glad you are finally starting to realize that Woodson is failing as coach.

rkj473
rkj473

@lennynyk @rkj473 I'm right there with you. I think Woody needs to play the younger guys more. Maybe they would infuse some life in this lifeless team. At this point it couldn't hurt to give them burn just to see how they handle themselves.

lennynyk
lennynyk

@rkj473@lennynykI say if they keep playing the way they have been, give barg's and stat's minutes to tyler. And I haven't even seen tyler at an nba level haha.

rkj473
rkj473

@lennynyk @rkj473 And I left out K-Mart as well. I'm with you I think that he should play given where we are and maybe some new blood would help steer this in the right direction. But I don't think Woody plays him over about 5 of those guys. So I don't know where he will see minutes.

Gallo was turning into a real good player before he got hurt.

VerySilentJay

@lennynyk @VerySilentJay @NYKnickerBocker Would anyone reject such an offer?

Smith Jr took his shot last season and got shut down because he sucked. He tried his luck again this season, and it coincided with JR's new contract and the complete lack of ethics within the Knicks FO and their partners in crime, CAA.
