Cleanthony Early gets some love from his peers

Keith Schlosser, Lead Writer

Earlier this week, the NBA gathered its first-year players at the Knicks’ training facility for the annual Rookie Photo Shoot. As Knicks’ rookies Cleanthony Early and Thanasis Antetokounmpo had some fun, a selection of the young guns were invited to participate in the year Rookie Survey as well.

As fate would have it, each of the rookies in New York’s duo got some love from their peers. In all, thirty-eight players participated in the survey itself.

Despite being selected in the second-round, Early seems to be one of the more talked about and hyped incoming first-year players, at least according to his fellow rookies. His name can be found all over the survey.

The No. 34 overall selection of the 2014 NBA Draft was among those “Others Receiving Votes” in categories pertaining to the most overlooked rookies, and ones who are poised to have the best career.

What’s more, the high-flying swingman was also recognized as the fourth most athletic player in his draft class. Apparently Early has a sense of humor, because he was voted the fourth funniest rookie as well.

At this point, it’s unknown whether or not Antetokounmpo will be playing for the Knicks, the D-League, or an international team next season. Still, that didn’t shut the 51st over pick out from the survey, either. An All-Defensive Third Team selection out of the NBA D-League last season, the young gun was among those “Others Receiving Votes” as the best defensive player from his draft class.

Interestingly enough, Carmelo Anthony’s name also came up in the survey as well. The Knicks’ star was recognized as one of the favorite players in the league of the draft class. He came in fourth, behind the likes of Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James.

I thinks it's a bit funny both Amare and Felton are on the blog for different but gun related reasons.

If I were Steph "bad ankles" Curry I too would "QUIT" on my teammates .. same goes for Harden, Irving, Cousins, Drummond, Thompson and especially Derrick "twice down" Rose... as a matter of fact .. any pivotal player for their respective NBA team should walk...thanks to the decision made by the "WUSS" to flat out punk out after making a commitment to his colleagues and to the USABMNT .. he got Pee Geed... Sorry to all those out there that doesn't share my opinion...KD isn't on the Knicks and he doesn't pay my bills...so I call it how I see it...he doesn't get a pass from me...he's shown himself to be a "QUITTER" .. he's a good player but maybe his game will change forever and he won't be the same again after seen what happened to Paul George...My humble opinion

If we don't sign Thanasis... We still retain his rights though right?

The issue for Early is to find a position. He is the classic tweener forward type. Not as quick as an NBA SF and not as a strong as an NBA PF. The trick will be for Fish to figure out how to use him effectively. He surely has NBA skills. It's just finding a way to contribute. I'm glad Woody is gone.

Early looks like he is gonna be a player. He's can shoot, he's crashes the boards, he's an athlete and plays hard.

TIMMY!!!!!!!! (South Park reference)

The Cavs need a center with a Z in his name to make LeBron happy!

Last season, Mozgov was one of the best rim protectors in the NBA. Per NBA Stat’s Player Tracking System, Mozgov forced opponents to shoot 46.9% at the rim. In comparison, the league best at rim protection per SportsVU was Indiana’s Roy Hibbert at 41.4%.

He’s exactly what the Cavaliers need at the center position behind James, Irving, and Love. Along with rim protection, he’s a solid rebounder and can work in the pick-and-roll with James and Irving. Most importantly, Mozgov’s presence would allow the Cavaliers to play Anderson Varejao less minutes per game, preserving his healthy for playoff basketball.

@2dullah2

Yes, we will hold his rights and can let him develop in Europe. The D League doesn't pay well, so that will be his best option.

@Knicks_Fanatic He's outstanding at the intangibles it seems, strong glue kind of guy thus far.

I think he's more of a 3/2 than a 3/4. I can't see him playing any 4 in the NBA actually.

Anyone that Cleveland acquires or targets is going to be overrated as evidenced by this ridiculous drivel and Stat smokescreen

@brookdon

In college Early played a lot at the 4. Player wise, Landry Fields might be a good comparison. Fields was a 4 mostly at Stanford and led the PAC 10 in rebounding. Both were seniors. Early got 6 boards per game and led his team in rebounds. Early needs to work on defending on the perimeter and starting his offense on the wing. If he succeeds in that, we will have a bargain player.

@thatzagoodpoint @Daniel Nguyen @2dullah2 If there's any mistake Phil has made thus far, this would be it. Comes to show how great of a job he's done, or doing.

Exactly lol. Fields was more of a 2/3 for us.
