When asked if Derek Fisher would make a good coach, MVP Kevin Durant said, “Without a doubt. He’s a smart guy, smart mind. He’s a great motivator, great speaker and can really relate to a lot of guys and demands that respect from everybody. He’s a great locker-room guy. I’m sure he’ll do a great job.” (Berman, May 20)
Fisher has “not given any thought” to the rumors linking him to the Knicks head coach vacancy (Amick, May 19).
“I’ve kept all my options open for years for that reason. I’ve been asked for more than a decade what I’m doing next,” Fisher said. “You go through your process at the appropriate time, and then you decide from there.”
Fisher, who is still playing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, could opt to move into an organization’s front office, as opposed to a coaching position (TKB, March 25).
He said he will not speak to Phil Jackson until after the season is over (Isola, May 19).
