Fan confidence at season-low 9.99%

Harris Decker

This month’s fan confidence rating is out and it is not good. Confidence dropped from 11.27 percent last month to just 9.99 percent this month. What does that mean? It means that less than 10 percent of Knicks fans believe that the team is heading in the right direction.

Obviously, this shouldn’t be news to anyone. With the injuries mounted on top of the horrible losses, this year has been an absolute disaster and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

For me, the number is in line with what I would have guessed. With all of the struggles, it does feel like the ship is slowly turning around, but it’s like trying to turn around a cruise ship in a pond. Things will get better for the Knicks this year, but fan confidence is a tricky thing. It is slow to react and hard to earn back.

Tracking this level from before the season started, it is scary to see how far the Knicks have fallen.

I love Melo but he needs to lead all across the board. He needs to put everybody in line off the court and things will be different. He needs to demand things from his team other than give me the ball. The only Knicks that look like they have good conditioning are the young ones

The thing thats irritating is the fact that Dolan seems to be cool with how things are. Theres no sense of urgency at all in the org. We hope to land a trade for Rondo but Boston has beaten us twice. Dolan pulls the plug on the Lowry trade. Then you bring in this bum Chris Smith like he can do anything other than make true fans frustrated.

Woody is horrible. Our guards suck with thee exception of Hardaway Jr and Beno. Beno lacks D and athleticism so he cant be given any heavy acolades from a fans perspective. This is sucks not just because we as fans have some crazy video game fascination with winning. It sucks because we spend hard earned money to come support the most embarrassing, disrespectful and raunchy organization in the league.

On "RealGM" C. Smith believe he will still be there after any moves. Basically from here on. FO & Woody is a joke. Out of the all top PG'S in the D league they call this guy. Cut him!

We need the W's. No matter how they get there. We're at the bottom of the pathetic pit, and we need to get out of there. Can't b¨tch or nitpick or complain at how you get out of the bottom of the pit.

Now, obviously you can win playing bad ball (as this team has), but this isn't what gets you results in the post season, where this team actually wants to go and succeed to a certain degree.

That's what people need to decide: do you want your team to climb in the standings, no matter how they do it, or do you wanna see improvements while the team still loses in the process?

Personally, I'd like to see the team improve, while getting the W's, but knowing our coach and his management of the team, we know this is not a possibility on a nightly basis.

So, unfortunately, I'll take the mediocre W's, as long as they help us get closer to the the top 8.

KNicks just need a decent PG and Average SG

JR smith is below average and backup

Felton is an OK back up PG not starter especially for a championship team

If Knicks can give THjr more minutes and he can blossom to become the 2 guard we all need We will be good at that position.

GM need to make a trade for a good PG whether its this year or during the offseason. If Knicks can fill both position with above average players this team can be a threat

@Kvdaone This is what I don't get.  Sense of urgency?  But do you really want us making trades when we're panicking?  Why?  Have you seen Rondo play yet since his injury?  I find it a little weird that he hasn't played yet Boston is shopping him around.  Hmm, wonder why that could be?  Have you seen Rondo play without KG, Pierce and Allen?  Are we sure he's elite?  Don't get me wrong, I love Rondo and think he's an upgrade over Felton.  But he's coming back from an injury and won't be surround by 3 hall of famers.  Maybe its smart to wait and see with him and if he's traded to another team, well, we move on.

Shump's value is very low right now.  So is JR's value.  You want to trade Hardaway or another first round draft pick just to improve the team a little bit?

Chandler, STAT, Bargnani...all of them become more and more valuable as trade assets as we get closer to the trade deadline and this off season and next year.  Why trade them now when you can trade them for more later?

Lets fire Woodson!  Except what better coach is gonna take over a team mid season?  Phil Jackson?  SVG or JVG?  Come on! Anytime a coach is fired mid season the person who takes over is always someone in the organization.  No good coach is gonna want to take over a team mid season with no training camp.

So yeah, there is no reason to panic and make an urgent trade right now.  THat would be exactly like The Knicks.  We're mad because they decided not to trade Shump or Hardaway or a first round pick for Lowry, who is an upgrade but isn't gonna put us over the top and may not even resign with us?  Patience is a virtue.

@VerySilentJay Eh, I don't think a team can really improve while still losing.  I think its easier to learn from mistakes after a win than it is after a loss.  Sure, you can have moral victories.  But those are for young teams that are up and coming.  Like say if Charlotte takes The Heat to a double overtime and barely loses despite playing great.  That type of loss can be something a team can build on.  But they only go so far.  Wins, even ugly double OT road wins, build confidence and trust.  This team has lacked that trust in themselves and in each other.  Gutting out a road win while missing key players can only be a positive.

@ponzies86 We surely do need a true PG.  However we are still a perimeter team and with that not having a PG that can break down the defense or get into the paint consistently,  out coach has to make sue we have better spacing and move the ball.

There is no reason for this team to be over dribbling because they aren't going anywhere but east-west and it makes it easier for teams to defend us.

Woody has no imagination or demands to make this team play a certain way or else.  JR won the 6th man award under woody and it seems Woody has glued himself to JR for better or worse.

@Knicks_Fanatic To be fair we are better off next year with tyson 14 mil, STAT 23 mil AB 11.5 mil all are expiring and we can possibly move them with Felton and JR and get a star from a team looking to start over or a star that wanna leave his current team.

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@Knicks_Fanatic STAT, Tyson and Bargnani will all be expiring contracts.  Melo will most likely resign.  JR will be in the next to last yea of his contract.  Felton's is not bad at all.  Everyone else is cheap.

ds2488
ds2488

@Knicks_Fanatic For some reason my last comment got moderated, but I'm fine with our long-term outlook.  Next year is bad, but once we get through that we really don't have any terrible contracts.  I think the extra year for Felton and Smith is very bad, but that's it.  Doesn't destroy our long term to owe 2 decent bench players 10 mill total combined.

I love all the expirings.  One of the reasons I was okay with the Bargs trade was to give us yet another large expiring.  We now got Stat, Bargs, and Tyson all expiring next year.  Either let them play it out and enjoy the loads of cap space or use them to trade for something.

Not a bad long term outlook imo.  Just hoping the Knicks don't do anything stupid/short-sighted beforehand to ruin things.  Hold onto our assets until a star player presents themselves.

ds2488
ds2488

@Knicks_Fanatic That actually gives me a lot of confidence lol.  Not for next year, but the year after.  All those guys will be expiring.  Those contracts can turn into trade chips or we can keep these guys again at much better prices.

I think the extra year for JR and Felton just stinks, but it's not a cap killer to have 2 guys costing you 11 million total.  They can be decent bench players with a better coach.

Knicks just need to decide about Melo.  Once they do everything will come into place.  I'd like to see them hold onto ALL their remaining assets (draft picks, Timmy, and Shump) unless they are looking at getting a long-term star back.  You have Amare, Tyson, and Bargs all expiring to either make a move or just let them expire to get tons of cap space.

Not a terrible long-term situation at all.

VerySilentJay

@Blaze NYK @VerySilentJay This is what I'm saying. You take a W instead of worrying about how much better you could've played while doing so.

Because so many here rather see the team lose while palying well though.

A record improves a team, doesn't it? At least in the standings it does.

Despite the huge differences in coaching and level of overall players, the '99 Knicks, by any Knick fan standard, had an awful regular season.

People here would've rioted by the way they played. The amount of b¨tcing would be borderline psyschotic.

And their issues were similar, lack of cohesion, offensive woes, early struggles with confidence.

It took them an entire season to put it all together, but they managed to get to the post season, which is all I'm asking for at this point.

@akamarb Rebounding is over rated in todays league, top 4 teams in the NBA besides Pacers, Grizz and Rockets are all poor rebounding teams. Miami won 3 titles averaging low amount of rebounds in the league. OKC was a mid level rebounding team when they went to the finals

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@akamarb

Why do you assume they will be off? We will either trade for more Bargnani type players or extend them for less money.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@darealeric

I'm assuming that is Chris Smith. He is non-guaranteed at about 880K. He will get paid if he is on the roster as of July 30, 2014. So we will cut him after that date, but he still  gets paid.

Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieSmalls

There are basically three ways to make a team better.

1) Work a trade where you exchange players and use surplus to fill a need.

2) Sign free agents by using cap space or exceptions

3) Use your draft picks.

We are just about out of bullets until 2015.

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@VerySilentJay@Blaze NYK Yup.  I honestly think we could have another 99 type season.  The East sucks outside of The Heat and The Pacers.  Lets say we get into the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed and face them in the first round.  Well, if we pulled off the miracle then the second round is against some crappy team and now we're in the ECF.  Last year we were the 2 seed and lost.  So why not go into the playoffs as a lower seed but have everyone healthy.  Hey, it probably won't happen but it could.  A lot of our problems are mental mistakes and injuries.  Its not a lack of talent.  Which means we can get a lot better just by cleaning up mistakes and building trust and getting key players healthy.  Its not like we're tapped out as far as reaching our ceiling.

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@Knicks_Fanatic@xmenreturn I was at that game!  That was the peak of Landry Fields.  Knicks hit a shot and got fouled (maybe STAT) and he went to the line, missed the free throw but Fields came in with the monster putback dunk for the 4 point play.
