Felton: Nets ‘will never take over this city’

When Newsday asked Raymond Felton about Paul Pierce’s stance on the Knicks-Nets rivalry, he laughed.

“It’s all fun and games to me,” Felton said on Sunday, at St. John’s Univesity while conducting a basketball clinic for Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City. “I think it’s good for us, it’s good for the whole state, it’s good. So, whatever — I love it.”

Pierce has said through multiple media channels that he thinks the Nets will take over the city. Felton questioned the literal legitimacy of that claim.

“It’s hard for you to take over the city when we’ve got ‘New York’ on our chest and you’ve got ‘Brooklyn’ on yours,” Felton said. “It’s been this way since long before he started playing.”

So let's see now..we are 4-0, we have just outplayed an NHL elite team, our only glaring weakness is the PK and you jerk-offs want to trade for either Yakupov or Evander Kane? Where do they play and what reason would their current teams want to unload these guys? Not doubting their talents but is it obvious that we have the potential for something special? How does Yakupov and Kane make us better? When Boychuk and Leddy are locked up then maybe make a trade...Not only are the Isles good it looks like good chemistry as well! Let's bring in mal-contents like Kane and Yakupov and blow the whole F$&@#%N thing up.check yourselves before we start moving our good prospects.

Edmonton needs Defense and wishes they picked Reinhart instead of Yakupov. Let them or anybody else kiss our Asses for once if they want something.

Don't jump all over me. I'm just throwing it out there but Hockey the Buzz said the Islanders are 1 of 3 teams trying to acquire Nail Yakupov. Just wondering what it would take to acquire Yakupov.

Dan Petriw: The only negative from last night was the Isles losing Mikhail Grabovski as he was knocked out from a monstrous, but clean, hit from Sharks’ forward John Scott. Arthur Staple reported that a concussion was ruled out which is really good news. Grabovski is listed day-to-day and his status for tomorrow’s game in Pittsburgh is still uncertain. I would imagine that the Isles would slide Colin McDonald into the lineup rather than wasting a recall on Anders Lee if this injury is not serious.

The lines might be a little different tomorrow as I would think Kulemin would slide up and take Grabovski’s spot on the second line. Then Colin McDonald would be slotted into the third line with Bailey and Nielsen and I don’t think there is that much of a drop off. I am still looking for some consistency from the fourth line. They show flashes of solid play but collectively need to possess the puck more when they are on the ice and not spend their entire shift defending.

per art staple, grabo is not traveling with the team to pittsburgh and will be out indefinitely.

If Edmonton was looking to deal Nail Yakupov should the isles be interested?

@sparkey Ya want a top D, draft him.  They passed, we did.  I heard that Edmonton was inquiring about Reinhart on the day he was drafted!  Why didn't you just trade down and take him?  There's a reason they are as bad as they have been.

It is so costly to sign even average defenders (see Orpik).  Reinhart should not be available unless someone blows us away.

@sparkey how about they get Reinhart & we take Yakupov & there 1st pick next year. LOL

@redly They average 1 trade rumor right out of 20. I just posted that rumor just in case anybody needed a laugh today.

@mrcisback Id give our next 1st pick for him. (whenever that is) Our next first pick will be a late 1st round pick. & wont be the player Yakupov will be in another 2 years. & it will take a few more years to develop that pick we would send them anyways.

Primadona is written all over him. I need some convincing to get him on my team

@bammer26 that makes sense that mcdonald would play if grabovski's injury isnt serious.  mcdonald is far from a highly skilled or flashy player, but he does play hard.  we've only played game 4 and lee is already a possibility of coming up.  he'll get called up soon enough

@slapshot18_rs - Thanks for the update Slap. Thoughts on who gets the ring..? A. Lee seems to be the logical choice.

@ivo- depends on the price. The price would have to be a huge discount.

@ivo At this point, I would say no.  He is young and doesn't have much experience on the pro level, so who knows where he will be in a few years. He very well may break out.   But at this point the Isles need to focus on their own young players and see who is going to stick and who isn't.

@ivo Yakupov is 21,,,, there are very few players who dominate before the age of 23. Yakupov will be a beast in a couple of years. Look at Okposo now & when he was 21, huge difference. I think Yakupov is better now then Okposo was at 21.

benmoz
benmoz

@ivo He's been unimpressive and would cost a lot, not to mention the fact that we don't need a RW. So no.

shlo

Since I don't think we need yakupov I'll flip yakupov to another team for a roster player and their first so we'll end up with 2 1st rounders .

After a 12 inch snowfall, they probably didn't even see winter coming.

mrcisback

@redly @mrcisback Red it would have to be the 2016 1st round pick then because we already owe Buffalo our 2015 1st round pick.

mrcisback

@shlo I bet you if the Islanders included Reinhart Yakupov would be here tomorrow. I still feel Evander Kane would be the perfect compliment to Tavares and Okposo.

Don22

@slapshot18_rs @bammer26 I don't think Lee comes up unless they feel Grabo will be out for an extended period of time.  If he will only miss a few games, then they would probably slot in McDonald on the 4th line, move Clutter to 3rd and Bailey up to 2nd (yeah, I know).  And I make these line thoughts assuming they fit positionally.

They might call someone up for depth, but I doubt it would be Lee.  You want to make sure when he is called up he is going to play and stay, not yo-yo.

isles23
isles23

Both of you are correct. This is why you have an extra forward like Mcdonald. Give more time to evaluate Grabovski before we call up Lee. The last thing you want to do is call up Lee just to send him down a week later

I also thought that will be called forgot about mcdonald.

@bammer26 i dont see how it wouldn't be lee.  and if it is lee, hopefully they keep the lines as is.  i would love to see brock centering lee and strome

Don22
Don22

@redly @ivo I don't think he will be a beast.  He is not built that way.  He most likely will become a productive player, but the Isles right now need to see what they have here.  Where would he fit?  We have a log-jam as it is now.

Don22
Don22

@mrcisback @shlo But why would you trade Reinhart?  He can be a solid part of our defense for years to come.  You have to feel he will probably develop into a 1st/2nd pair guy.  What more does Yakupov give us?

John Falcone
John Falcone

@mrcisback @shlo I agree with you on Kane, but forget Yakupoz, numbers are great, and definitely not worth giving up Reinhart.

mrcisback

@slapshot18_rs @bammer26 Thank you slapshot for that information. This is not the way I wanted to see Lee come up due to an injury if in fact it is Lee. Indefinitely doesn't sound too good.

@puckznpadz @redly @ivo I'd have an attitude problem if i had to play in Edmonton also. I think Edmonton is one of the worst rated teams that NHL players want to play for.

@Don22 @mrcisback This is an exercise  in ifffsss  Mrc asked a question and we took the bait.

If the oilers are talking about yakupov a 1st overall something is very wrong with him.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@shlo I don't know if you remember but during Steven Stamkos 1st year 2008-2009 Tampa almost traded him to the Rangers for a package of players. Supposedly Stamkos was mad at being benched. Thank god the Tampa owner stepped in and stopped that trade. That would have been a nightmare for Islander fans.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@shlo If i could get Yakupov for a smaller package like Bailey,Hickey and a prospect ?Collberg i might to do it. No way Strome,Nelson,Lee,Reinhart or Pulock. If Edmonton asked for any of those players i would would tell them take a flying leap.

shlo

@mrcisback Some superstars in the making have an issue of being one of the boys, pay your dues, do what the coach wants you to do. Some wise up some don't.

However, every time the rangers sign a "star" they don't tend to be so great.

The last one that gave us real problem was Brian Leech I believe. Nash has not been around long enough.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@mrcisback any islander fan would do that.  why would the oilerswant anything to do wiht that package

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@mrcisback @slapshot18_rs its not THAT down.  they would want reinhart plus. hes 21 on what has been one of the worst teams in the league since coming in.  he's loaded with talent.

this was rumored in the offseason as well

mrcisback

@slapshot18_rs Who knows Slapshot maybe the Islanders thinking is different on Griffen Reinhart now since they acquired Leddy and Boychuk and Pulock looked real good. I still say theres no way i'm giving up Reinhart unless Evander is coming back.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@mrcisback i agree.  reinhart is not getting traded for yakupov, that would be a step backwards imo.  i'd listen if they started the convo with RNH though!
