Final: Grizzlies 95, Knicks 87

The Grizzlies defeated the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, 95-87.

The Least You Should Know

The Grizzlies snapped their five-game losing streak.

Despite shooting 1-of-9 from 3-point range, the Grizz shot 48 percent from the field.

The Knicks were out-rebounded 56-29.

Carmelo Anthony was the lone Knicks starter to score in double figures.

Sam Spiegelman

Consider the Knicks the slump-buster.

The Grizzlies (11-15) came to Madison Square Garden and handed the Knicks (8-18) a 95-87 loss, snapping their five-game losing skid in the process.

Memphis was dominant on the boards, out-rebounding the Knicks 56-29, including 13 offensive boards. Zach Randolph Randolph led the way with 15 boards, in addition to a team-high 25 points.

Tony Allen had 19 points and eight rebounds, Ed Davis added 10 points, and Kosta Koufos and Jerryd Bayless combined for 21 off the Grizzlies’ bench.

The Knicks offense came solely from Carmelo Anthony, the only starter to score in double-digit figures. Anthony also led the squad in rebounds with seven.

Tim Hardaway Jr. and J.R. Smith each dropped 16 points off the bench, but together were 7-of-25 shooting.

It was not a great day for Andrea Bargnani and the Knicks’ backcourt. The Italian scored three points on just 1-of-5 shooting, and played just 22 minutes. Iman Shumpert and Beno Udrih combined for six points and six assists off 3-of-13 shooting.

The only thing encouraging about the Knicks’ play was that they outscored Memphis 47-45 in the second half and 26-23 in the fourth quarter.

Next:

Next up for the Knicks is a Monday night trip vs. the Orlando Magic at 7 p.m.

I can't comment on this blog until they fix the stupid Knicks problem.  I'm done here.

@Don22 i think it's great.  think about it.  when the isles go on a 7 game home losing streak, all you need to do is scroll to the bottom of the page and realize it could be a lot worse.

@time2win @Don22 LOL.  You make a good point.  Except that I would rather have root canal than read about basketball.

@Don22 @time2win the beauty about basketball, is you only need to watch the last 30 seconds of the game in order to really get it.  it's usually within 5 points.  teams foul.  if you hit your free throws you win.  if you miss, you are in trouble.  it's really no different than the shootout, but you don't see the NBA counting ROW.

On the other hand, games that are a blowout are not really worth your time.  My older brother summed it up best once.  It's a game of chance.  You shoot the ball and regardless of if a hand is in your face or not, you have pretty much the same chance of hitting the shot - unless it's blocked.

@Don22 I guess our posts of today are going to pop-up somewhere else in 2-3 years....lol.

I'm going to make my Isles comments on the knicks blog BTW between fouls free throws and time outs it takes them a hour to play the last two minutes and people find that entertaining?

@tag1 dude, just saw your Phil Jackson comment below.  Had me LOL'ing at my cube.  jerk.

Time2win, that couldn't be farther from the truth in regards to basketball. A contested shot is harder to hit than a non contested one, that's a fact. I get this is a hockey blog and many don't like basketball on here and that's fine, but don't make blanket statements like that about something you clearly don't know much about.

i haven't watched the knicks in years, but I can't believe woodson is still the coach.

Didn't see any of the game, so I cant comment on it, however  we will see whether 1 win means the slump is over, or not. The 2 points were a nice welcome, but still a bit of important hockey to be played.

Hey Blog people , You have had enough time, if you are not capable to get the mix up with the Knick posts in here, get someone who knows what the hell to do to correct it.

Playoffs could be locked up after thursday night.

Panthers at Boston (tues), then Boston at Wings(thurs)

Sens at Wings( tues), then Bolts at Sens(thurs)

Sens can max out at 100 points..

6 total points lost by the Sens or gained by the Isles means playoffs..

Bruins can max at 101 points.

7 total points lost by Bruins or gained by Isles means playoffs.

So as an Isles fans- LETS GO WINGS!

for seeding fun

caps got remaining: Canes, at Habs, at Sens, at Wings, Bruins, Rangers

pens got remaining: Flyers, at jackets, at Flyers, at Sens, Isles, at buff

Hope the Flyers win out this season (vomits in mouth a little)..

@rmbbanned2 caps have a pretty tough schedule.  I think it's going to end up being NYR, PIT, NYI, WAS (wildcard).

Agreed with that set up. An Isles vs Pens, Caps vs Rangers setup would be excellent entertainment.

The Isles have a real solid chance vs the Pens to advance to round 2.

time2win

@rmvacation i think the rags and caps would be an incredible series actually.  i just don't want to see ovie or montreal in round 1.  other than that, bring on anyone - even during our losing streak.

The Habs go as far as Price takes them. If he falters, they are finished. But Price could also lead them to a series win with 4 straight shutouts, in 4 straight series..

Every team in the East could emerge this season. The Habs if they secure home ice in the East seems like the best bet.

JT ANDERS LEE AND STROME ON THE FIRST LINE ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME YOU BIG BABOON CAPUANO????      DONT TINKER WITH IT CASE CLOSED.

bosstrots1

Hopefully that is a playoffs sealing win.  that was a win ugly to break a of slump kind of game.  Detroits goalie was our MVP tonite. Its about time that JT got to play with Strome and Gailey and KO got to play with Franz, i think that move takes the pressure off of KO and Bailey and gives Franz a finisher to works with his complementary style.  Kuleimin on that line with Strome and JT is good thinking too.  I dont want to be negative after such a crucial gut check victory so i will say great dig deep win but lets be better so as to clinch a playoff spot and go into the playoffs with some confidence and some momentum.

slapshot18_rs

@bosstrots1 well said.  obvious room for improvement but it was a big team win.  5 different scorers, halak came up big when he needed to although his numbers werent great.  hopefully they can build on this.

Their goaltending was worse then the Isles goaltending. Not unexpected, given the crazy good goaltending the Isles have faced for weeks. After the right start, nice to see the team didn't fold up but hung tough and battled throught it. Part of becoming battle tested.. The game thread must be hysterical with hysterics...

The PK finally gave one up, and the power play converted. They played well with the lead today, which is a result of a few hard lessons from this season.

It isn't mandatory to get on a roll for the playoffs, but closing out the season with solid play and a handful of wins never hurts. Hopefully the team relaxes, and returns to playing at a high level.

Letang with a concussion is an injury of note. Caps beat the Rangers- any team can beat any team on any night.... Playoffs should be fun.

rmvacation

Stop with the caps lock. Disagree with your opinion. Everybody knows something, but when it comes to the Isles, the coaches know more then the fans..

time2win
time2win

@bosstrots1 let's not forget, two of the goals halak gave up were two very bad breaks as well.  bounced off him and over his head (line of vision) and in.  I didn't see replays and was watching the game with no volume on, but that's what i saw.  i thought he made big saves when he needed to.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@newowner1 @rmvacation funny you say that after saying strome should be playing WITH jt for the next ten years when he is so clearly the #2 center on this team in the future.

Michael Frias
Michael Frias

@time2win @bosstrots1  Yeah, of all the things we can get on during the recent slump, goaltending isn't one of them.  I the last 7 losses, they've given up 2 goals twice, 3 goals 3 times.  Other than that, it was a 2-1 shootout loss, 4-1 loss, a 3-0 win, and yesterday's 5-4 win.

2.44 GAA the past 9 games should get you better than a 2-6-1 record.

rmvacation
rmvacation

Interesting counter there "new owner" . You keep your insults, and I will stick with the coach of a team with 95 points that might wind up with 100 plus points.

rmvacation
rmvacation

@frias- yes, that kind of goaltending and a 29/30 effort on the PK as well.

What was a problem for most of the season has been a strength. If the goaltending stays that strong, and the PK holds up, the scoring will come around.

Why don't Woodson and barganni switch places? Andre could maybe get a fire going and Woodson has to be better than Barganni

How the eff is Woodson still coaching this team?

How much you want to bet Phil Jackson takes over next year and they have the worst record in the league.

MOSTHATED1

i said it last year even with the 54 wins that the coach needs to go ..simply based on the fact that there hasn't been any fundamentals pushed on this team since woody took over and that raised a red flag from jump...

@kneggyknik With a good coach this group can do a hell of a lot better than the lottery type of basketball they're playing now.

Schoolyard players actually run and jump. No need to bring them down to our level!

The roster is a joke! People blame Melo but what can the guy do? He is leading his team in pts, Assists, Rebounds, and 2nd in blocks  this season. The only NBA player to lead his entire team in every aspect of the game this season.

Knicks have a long offseason!

PG position needs to be dealt

Coaching might have to be changed

Bargnani has to go

Trade Shump or bring in a coach who can use him

Tim Hardaway JR should be our starting 2 guard

JR shouldnt see more then 30 minutes a game and if hes cold sit him down asap!

Tyson is no where in hell worth 15 million dollars a year IDC how much energy he brings to the team.

Can't blame the Orange uniforms now LOL

We have the worst owner in bbal and the worst coach in bball. Knick fans should not take this kind of crap. We are loyal spenders of our cash. We deserve better. At the very least we gotta get rid of this sham of a coach. The team is not responding to his gobbledy goop. He has got to go.

Francesco Monastra

if u want to blow this team up

Knicks-Bobcats

Melo, MWP, C.Smith for Gordon MKG Zeller and future 1st

Knicks-Suns

Chandler, Martin, Udrih, JR for Okafor Len Goodwin and 2014 1st they own from Pacers

Knicks-Kings

Felton for Fredette

Knicks-Rockets

Barg for Asik and Cannon

then release/bough out Okafor and sign Tyler

PG: Prig Fredette Cannon Murry

SG: Shump Gordon Goodwin

SF: MKG Hardaway

PF: Stat Zeller Tyler

C: Asik Len Aldrich

prob look to buy out Gordon as well, maybe trade Prig, maybe release Aldrich, and sign more young players

and fire Woody, bring in a couch that is good at developing young players or I wouldn't mind Houston getting a chance, see what he can do for the rest of the season

Francesco Monastra

obv all these trades i woud look to get more in return and prob could for some of them
