Final: Grizzlies 95, Knicks 87

The Grizzlies defeated the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, 95-87.

The Least You Should Know

The Grizzlies snapped their five-game losing streak.

Despite shooting 1-of-9 from 3-point range, the Grizz shot 48 percent from the field.

The Knicks were out-rebounded 56-29.

Carmelo Anthony was the lone Knicks starter to score in double figures.

Sam Spiegelman

Consider the Knicks the slump-buster.

The Grizzlies (11-15) came to Madison Square Garden and handed the Knicks (8-18) a 95-87 loss, snapping their five-game losing skid in the process.

Memphis was dominant on the boards, out-rebounding the Knicks 56-29, including 13 offensive boards. Zach Randolph Randolph led the way with 15 boards, in addition to a team-high 25 points.

Tony Allen had 19 points and eight rebounds, Ed Davis added 10 points, and Kosta Koufos and Jerryd Bayless combined for 21 off the Grizzlies’ bench.

The Knicks offense came solely from Carmelo Anthony, the only starter to score in double-digit figures. Anthony also led the squad in rebounds with seven.

Tim Hardaway Jr. and J.R. Smith each dropped 16 points off the bench, but together were 7-of-25 shooting.

It was not a great day for Andrea Bargnani and the Knicks’ backcourt. The Italian scored three points on just 1-of-5 shooting, and played just 22 minutes. Iman Shumpert and Beno Udrih combined for six points and six assists off 3-of-13 shooting.

The only thing encouraging about the Knicks’ play was that they outscored Memphis 47-45 in the second half and 26-23 in the fourth quarter.

Next:

Next up for the Knicks is a Monday night trip vs. the Orlando Magic at 7 p.m.

Why don't Woodson and barganni switch places? Andre could maybe get a fire going and Woodson has to be better than Barganni

How the eff is Woodson still coaching this team?

MOSTHATED1

i said it last year even with the 54 wins that the coach needs to go ..simply based on the fact that there hasn't been any fundamentals pushed on this team since woody took over and that raised a red flag from jump...

The roster is a joke! People blame Melo but what can the guy do? He is leading his team in pts, Assists, Rebounds, and 2nd in blocks  this season. The only NBA player to lead his entire team in every aspect of the game this season.

Knicks have a long offseason!

PG position needs to be dealt

Coaching might have to be changed

Bargnani has to go

Trade Shump or bring in a coach who can use him

Tim Hardaway JR should be our starting 2 guard

JR shouldnt see more then 30 minutes a game and if hes cold sit him down asap!

Tyson is no where in hell worth 15 million dollars a year IDC how much energy he brings to the team.

We have the worst owner in bbal and the worst coach in bball. Knick fans should not take this kind of crap. We are loyal spenders of our cash. We deserve better. At the very least we gotta get rid of this sham of a coach. The team is not responding to his gobbledy goop. He has got to go.

if u want to blow this team up

Knicks-Bobcats

Melo, MWP, C.Smith for Gordon MKG Zeller and future 1st

Knicks-Suns

Chandler, Martin, Udrih, JR for Okafor Len Goodwin and 2014 1st they own from Pacers

Knicks-Kings

Felton for Fredette

Knicks-Rockets

Barg for Asik and Cannon

then release/bough out Okafor and sign Tyler

PG: Prig Fredette Cannon Murry

SG: Shump Gordon Goodwin

SF: MKG Hardaway

PF: Stat Zeller Tyler

C: Asik Len Aldrich

prob look to buy out Gordon as well, maybe trade Prig, maybe release Aldrich, and sign more young players

and fire Woody, bring in a couch that is good at developing young players or I wouldn't mind Houston getting a chance, see what he can do for the rest of the season

It's not bad enough that they have Zach Randolph, but Zach Randolph Randolph too? That's just not fair.

How we get embarrassed like that on the glass is incredible. Second chance points in paint. Memphis just wanted it more haha.  I just want to cry myself to sleep. Zero defense.

Team is in total chaos, players clueless on offense and defense, no off-the-ball movement, slow on transition, no rebounding, etc., etc.

FIRE WOODSON. It's the obvious first move in trying to fix this team.

dcbb

No ball movement, lots of isolation and very selfish team. Last year Jason Kidd was the coach on the floor.

FIRE WOODSON - that's the first step.

Schoolyard players actually run and jump. No need to bring them down to our level!

@kneggyknik With a good coach this group can do a hell of a lot better than the lottery type of basketball they're playing now.

Quite a plan. I especially like the idea that they could get Asik for Bargnani.

@Marvel @VerySilentJay Contracts are not being compared here. It's not his fault Toronto FO gave him that much money. If you ask me, Indy overpaid for what little Copeland's brought to that team.

- First off, as a Knick, Copeland benefitted from a team that was clicking on all cylinders and always received teh ball wide open. Couldn't be a roll man because of bad hands, had no ability to attack the basket and put the ball on the floor, and at his size, he was an awful rebounder. His man to man defense was just flat out disgusting. Plain and simple, a shooter.

- AB right now is playing on a team with no identity and on an offense that has no fluidity, rhyme, or reason. I'm not justifying his play, but everyone's numbers will go down on a system that makes no sense, doesn't have a PG to execute it (or whatever there is). You place Copeland on this awful offense and force to shoot contested 3's, try to put the floor or attack the basket, his stats would be a lot worse than AB's are now.

Talent wise, there's no comparison. It's not AB's fault is coach is negligent and has no idea what he's doing.

- Timmy's a rookie who's already growing a rep as a chucker. Make no mistake, I like the kid, I think he's got potential, but right now he's nowhere near JR in terms of talent at this point.

- Today JR showed what he can do when he's reganing his confidence and feeling better: 7 assists, 4 steals, 4 rbs, 16 pts on 50% shooting. That's what JR can do and that's what he did last season.

@SheSaidSpikeWho Good Lord, you're killing me.

However, a testament as to the fragility of Lopez. So many talk about Chandler being injurty prone, but right now Lopez definitely is taking the flag.

@bloop

If you start Bargnani as your power forward, that is the problem. It has nothing to do with Copeland or Novak. Bargnani is not the type of player that you need to contend with the Pacers and Heat. He doesn't rebound and got two today.

The whole notion to "go big" by getting a player who doesn't rebound is amiss. Also the idea that Bargnani is going to stretch the floor with his 30% accuracy is wrongheaded. So yes, Copeland is no great shake and neither was Novak, but we miss what they do. They stretched the floor and hit threes. That they did very well. What exactly does Bargnani excel at as an NBA starting power forward? That is the problem.

we clearly wont see eye to eye on cope vs AB..

and you give Jr so much credit based off todays game ? let him perform like the for a couple weeks then il listen.

we disagree.it happens.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@Marvel @VerySilentJay True.

I actually give JR credit due to a 6MOY season.

We know who he is off the court. Take the good with the bad.

He's played through pain this season due to offseason surgery, overplayed by his coach.

Timmy's done little on bottom-feeding team to prove he's better than JR.
