Final: Knicks 103, Magic 98

The Knicks defeated the Magic at the Amway Center, 103-98.

The Least You Should Know

The Knicks were up huge in this game early. They let a 25 point lead early in the 3rd quarter slip away and ended up winning a close game.

Carmelo Anthony led the team in scoring with 19, despite leaving in the 3rd quarter with ankle injury. Raymond Felton also left the game with a leg injury. Stay tuned to TKB for more information as it becomes available.

Tyson Chandler and Iman Shumpert played huge parts in this game on both ends of the ball. Chandler had a few momentum swinging jams and Shumpert played excellent defense in the 4th.

The Knicks once again had a hard time containing opposing guards as Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo combined for 43 points.

Harris Decker

There are a number of key story lines that will come out of tonights game. From a momentum perspective, a win is a win. Unlike the “win” against the Bucks last week, this game felt like a hard earned win. After getting up huge early, the Knicks held off the storming Magic with some great play late from the reserves.

Carmelo Anthony left the game in the 3rd quarter after scoring 19 points, 9 of them from behind the arc. He was fighting for a rebound when he came down funny on his ankle. He limped around and stayed on the bench for a few minutes before heading to the locker room. This type of injury could obviously have huge repercussions on the team but we’ll hold our collective breathe for now.

Raymond Felton returned to the court and had an excellent game before he left in the 4th quarter with an injury. He had 13 points and 4 assist before exiting.

Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Tyson Chandler truly were the stars in this game. Smith had an excellent offensive game, making some key shots down the stretch and really taking the pressure off of the rest of the team in Anthony’s absence. He also pulled down 10 rebounds and added 2 blocks on defense. Chandler was a monster on both sides of the ball contributing 10 points and 13 rebounds. He drove the teams energy throughout the game, yelling at players who were not hustling up and down the court repeatedly.

Finally, Shumpert had a great bounce back game. He looks much more confident and hopefully can build off of this performance. He had a clutch steal late that allowed him to run the court uncontested and finish with an easy layup. It was a game the Knicks should have won, taking care of business against the much less experienced Magic. They were burned again by the guards but were able to cool Nelson and Affalo off when the game was on the line.

Next up for the Knicks is a Christmas Day matchup at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder at 2:30 p.m.

I've said it before and I'll say it again ...............Felton the perfect example of how being out of shape leads to INJURIES !
...particularly lower body injuries .

Amare needs to be in more PnR to relieve the extra pressure. I like how his post game has developed but theygotta switch it up with him or hes gonna be injured again

Im not against Melo becoming a FA. STAT should too if he honestly wants to win.

Shump did a lot off the ball tonight and I do actually commend Dolan for not giving up a pick for Lowry. Again, as much as I wanna see change I dont believe Lowry is the answer

Felton shouldve been traded in the offseason. There are 12 D-League pgs better than him. Kenny Smith might be better than him right now.

Felton aint injured, he's trying to avoid being traded #Bum. He is a serious problem because he cant stop penetration and he misses wide open shots repeatedly #Bum

This win was thanks to Melo big offensive explosive in the 1st half, Look how when he went out the offense look like crap and we blew a 24pt lead.

The schedule coming up is scary for us. We got thunder, raptor twice, spurs, mavs, heat. This is going to be fun.......lets leave it at that.

felton had an excellent game? 4 for12 and 4 assists to 3 turnovers.  i expect better commentary and adjectives out of this website.

Nets lost and Pierce (0-for-7) was held scoreless for the first time since March 9, 1999 -- the 16th professional game of his 16-year career.

Knicks now in 3rd place (on  the basis of head-to-head tiebreaker with Nets).  A sweep of the 2-game set against the Raptors might get us into playoff position as incredible as it sounds.

we should rest melo on Christmas.   Make sure hes ready for friday.   As weird as it sounds, Friday against the Raptors is a huge game.

With Felton being out again, not sure how the Knicks keep hesitating about giving that 2018 #1 for Lowry

I don't care how many decent games Stat plays.  Overall he is a huge negative to this team.  Way too many turnovers and non-existent D.

Christmas is going to be ugly if Melo and Felton don't play.  Well, Melo anyway.  Felton can just retire at this point.  He is worthless too.

How's this for useless stats, Knicks are 6-1 vs bucks, Orlando, ATL, but only 3-17 vs rest of NBA.. Ouch!

Melo caught and stopped himself. I haven't been 100% since.... I came in the NBA. Hmm. What was he going to say?

The Knicks medical staff must be like that old Chris Rock bit... Just put a little robitussin on it.

@bockers Kevin Love and Melo are the same type of player. Both me-first offensive black holes. And they like similar spots on the court. People thought Stat and Melo couldn't play together? It would be worse with Melo and Love.

Rondo is not the type of point guard that Melo likes. Rondo controls the ball for a good portion of a possession and Melo prefers to control the ball himself for a good portion of the possession. Again they wouldn't make for a good combo.

Now, you want to let Melo go and get Love and Rondo - that would work a little better because Love doesn't do the extended-iso play as much. I'd be for that.

@Mike Jones..i dunno man, Granger looks like he's Done (Brandon Roy??! v.2 ) , Hill is good but not enough i think .

..

...I think a package of Shump plus 2 first rounders is superior than that proposed package.

@zebeto Could not agree with you more. That is why the Fans in Portland wanted him out. In order for this dude to come into camp in shape he has to have a "chip" on his shoulder, really ?

missed the "excellent" reference about smith's offensive game.  can we relax with that word?  probably the best game of his season, but 7-17 is not excellent in any book.

The OKC game is a washout regardless. Woodson should sit Chandler too.

actually, we play toronto 2 straight days, so we should def make sure melo is good to go.

@SheSaidSpikeWho

For all the flack Felton gets, he always plays hard and gives 100%. He has a huge heart and is fearless. That's the kind of player I want on my Knicks.

Hope he is back soon.

the point is to move melo for pieces pics... so this doesn't prove much..

actually with a competent team, in the past, we've actually strived without melo (at times )...this team probably isn't built for that tho..

He did have an excellent game wat r u talkin about?? He came up big at da end on defense as well as offense, u fans give up way to quick on players let me tell ya, wat a dam shame

@Jake SokolHe actually did have a good game though. Percentages had nothing to do with his defense tonight. A couple of blocks, some clutch stops and a few steals should be respected more than 7-17

@Jake Sokol 10 boards and 1 turnover in 37 minutes is pretty damn good though.  I'll take 7-17 anytime if he gives us that.

Pelicans would be the 4th best team in the East.

@Knicks_Fanatic @SheSaidSpikeWho Felton  plays dumb sometimes. he was on the verge of blowing last nite game with his inane play. I was not happy to see him get injured but it was not a bad thing for last nite game. Beno stabilized the offense a bit and was able to feature bargnani in 2 big occasions which won the game for us.

@Sandro Guedes @bockers @nncyel I know you have your little man crush on Love, but you clearly don't watch enough Minny ball. His D is atrocious, and if it wasn't for Pekovic, Love would be completely exposed.

Melo can score in 10,000 different ways Love can't, can defend 3's and 4's, certainly passes the ball more than Love does, and actually commands a double, and sometimes, a triple team, something Love hasn't earned yet. Melo, at 31, will still be the better athlete imo.

Love's injury prone, and you'll start complaining about this, his contract, and his D the second he gets to NY.

Btw, Rondo + Melo is infintely better than Rondo + Love.

zebeto

@Sandro Guedes@zebeto...if there are 1st round picks envolved, then yea .......thats much more valuable than what the knicks can offer.....if its just granger/hill i have my doubts.

meant at times weve thrived, obviously it helps to have a player like him on the court, but we have done pretty good without him from time to time.

@OLD_KNICK

im posative Dolan has no idea how to spin a player. We would be the team giving up picks in a Melo trade.
