Final Score: Bucks 101, Knicks 98

Tonight in Milwaukee, the Knicks lost to the Bucks by a score of 101-98.

The Least You Should Know

The Knicks lost to the worst team in the NBA tonight on a go-ahead three with 2 seconds left. The clincher came courtesy of new Knick killer, Brandon Knight.

J.R. Smith had his highest scoring game of the season, going for 30. He looked as good as he has all year. Still, the Knicks lost to the worst team in the NBA.

Melo came up one shot short tonight but was otherwise as clutch as you can ask, putting the team on his back over the final ten minutes of the game. Melo ended with 36 on 13 of 25 shooting, including 5 threes. He scored 17 of those points in the fourth quarter. And yet, still the Knicks lost to the…

After scoring 36 against the Knicks last time the teams played, Brandon Knight had 25 and 7 on 10 of 23 shooting. Oh, right, and that game winner.

Ben Kopelman

Final minute recap:  JR’s 28th, 29th and 30th points of the night brought the Knicks within a single point, 96-95. On the next possession, Brandon Knight did what he did all night — got himself open and hit his shot — to expand the lead to three. Melo came down and scored his 36th point with a dagger shot of his own, tying the score at 98. Instead of getting a stop and winning in OT, Brandon Knight hit a three in Felton’s eye with 2.3 seconds left. The inbound play didn’t work.

We have become numb to the notion that this team could lose when Melo scores 36. But when JR adds in 30? Unbelievable.

This was the kind of JR game we have been waiting and waiting and crying and kicking for all year. He went 9 of 17 from the field, 6-11 from behind the arc and hit all six free throws. He looked in rhythm all night, especially in the second quarter before Melo got going. Best JR night of the year.

Ray Felton was gross. He went 1 of 7 from the field for a whopping three points on the night. His seven dimes barely registered given how many times he got burned by the Bucks backcourt. Not a night for Knicks fans to feel good about their PG play.

The Knicks played lazy defense in the second quarter, doubling on most everything and not recovering to defend the open men. The Bucks took full advantage, scoring 32 second quarter points, leading to a seven point halftime lead. Down the stretch, the Bucks just \ made plays and hit their shots. The Knicks didn’t inexplicably leave guys wide open, but they didn’t come up with enough stops.

With 4:06 left in the second quarter, the Bucks took the lead. They never trailed again. Yikes.

Next Game: The Knicks host the Blazers on Wednesday night back at MSG at 8pm.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not even close to being a professional basketball coach, but even I know NOT to play Felton the last possesion only to the fact that Knight was tourching him all night. And the fact that Felton is not that good... How can they get Rondo?

Prigioni is the better PG. Does little things that go unnoticed. He is a better defender. Prigioni downside is his offensive game. But the + to - is evident.

Hi, I'm Tyson Chandler. I have this reputation of being a great defender and team-mate. Im actually neither.

I'll call out my team-mates and coach anytime - it deflects the focus away from my shitty play you see...Cant let anyone focus on my complete inability to score..even freethrows...Hey, I gotta cool beard though right?

It dont matter that I'm being out-rebounded and out-hustled by the teams star who im supposed to protect...Hey remember when I won defensive player of the year THREE years AGO. You see I walk around acting like a tough, wily, vet but I get schooled by virtually every centre i play against.

Its a sweet life being paid $14mil to do a job that an undrafted rookie could do....Shiiiiizz theres this guy Jeremy on our roster - hes getting paid $13.25mil less than me to do exactly what I do..maybe even more....its ok though cus the coach will put me straight back in the team.

Maaan, what a sweet life!!!

Did we really lose to the Bucks?

Such a disheartening loss.   For starters, how does Shumpert come back from injury and START when THJR has been playing so well.    I dont get it.

Ray felton, wow you are a bottom tier PG.   If anyone can find Tyson Chandlers game/reputation please let me know.

Time to get rid of Mike Shouldacoulda Woodson

Man, we have already dug ourselves a hole and we now go out and lose to the lowly Bucks who even we have owned before.  It's the Bucks folks.  We can't blame this on not having a top PG or etc.  This is purely on our coach and the players period.

I actually think that we'd do Woody a favor by letting him go. His stock has already taken a hit. He'll probably get another gig, but the worse this gets, the worse that gig will be and the less it will pay him. If he rides this team to fifty losses, I think he'd have few options. Fire him already.

This was the Knicks team we have seen for most of the season. No defense at all, no ball movement on offense, complaining to the refs, and a coach that does NOTHING about it. Pathetic!!

When we were good, I worried about mediocrity. Now, we are just bad with the promise of getting worse if Melo leaves.

Think I'll take another 3 week break from The Knicks. Need to build up my reserve for the losses.

Hey Tyson,

Do you still think the Knicks can get the #3 seed in the East?! Lmao!!!!!

@Steven Porter  lol.....kind of harsh but can't dispute what you say. I like the commercial where he tells Fran Healy during an interview that he considers himself a gladiator....lol

@OLDKNICK  I just felt it. I knew Brandon would torch him on the last play of the game. Why couldn't Prigioni be in there or a better defender on Knight. Woodson is such a clueless tool.

@Daniel It's the Bucks we should be able to run Herb out there and win this game. This is a team who you take out early so they don't get any hopes they can win.    No excuses

@zdiddy4nyk

For a different perspective . . .

Raymond Felton:

      Offensive Rating of 100 pts/100 possessions

     Defensive Rating of 111 pts/100 possessions

      (Net: -11 pts/100 possessions)

Pablo Prigioni:

       Offensive Rating of 121 pts/100 possessions

       Defensive Rating of 108pts/100 possessions

       (Net: +13 pts/100 possessions)

Maybe Felton can have a positive impact for the team, but I'm not sure he can have that impact in his current role as a 32+ mpg starter.

@xmenreturn  Yes you can, Felton played no D. Amarie played no D, Woody got out coached, Chandler played like an overpaid tool. There is plenty of blame on many, but Felton`s inabilities stood out

We shoulda picked up Augustine when he was available he'd be even better and I think he got the minimum

@zdiddy4nyk

That doesn't count not signing Lin, passing on trading for Lowry, or sending the 2016 1st rounder to Toronto for Bargnani and his $11 million salary. Then factor in the many free agent PG's that are superior to Felton that signed for less than $3-4 million. That would include Darren Collison for $1.9 million.

@C0P0 Melo needs to leave because he is not going to bring us a ring for sure.  We need to put together a realistic 4 year plan and go with the youth movement until we can get a legit star that can lead.

Chris

@Kiyan Carter  Foul trouble. Short term yes long term too much wear and tear on Melo. He did a great job filling that role in Olympics, but he had a real coach

@zdiddy4nyk. Maybe if he continues to perform well again, people will jump back on his wagon....people are like that, they only remember "what have you done for me lately"

@buddhabing @Steven Porter  A gladiator? SMH!

There are a lot of things wrong with the knicks, dont get me wrong, but this guy realy p's me off.

Iv wanted him traded for two years. If we could get in this years draft for him....Sign me up!!!

@xmenreturn @Daniel Exactly its THE BUCKS.    I mean they have good young players but they are cellar dwellers, apparently we are too

Felton was even a net negative player last season. He would probably be fine playing as a backup against non-starters.

@melo7  That was a killer not signing him. He must not be CAA

And that Billups option+amnesty hindered some of the team's options moving forward.  Billups' expiring could have been used as part of a trade package for a PG.

@xmenreturn @C0P0  When you say we, just who are you including, Dolan? Mills ? Woody? Good luck

@Sandro Guedes @Kiyan Carter  Averaging 1.2 steals per game...he plays defense now. Saying that he doesn't would mean you don't even watch games. He's not Scottie Pippen on d but he's not bad.

Chandler is the number one problem? I disagree, Felton's worse and plays a more important position... IMO...

@Jerry Gee  The way is playing do you think he would get the Knicks Rondo straight up.

sportsboy
sportsboy

@zdiddy4nyk @Tikki  thats because woodson doesnt play any other point guard but felton!! so that statement is not accurate! you cant determine which PG would be best! when Woody loves fat boy felton and plays favoritism! FACT

@zdiddy4nyk @Knicks_Fanatic

"We?" Is it your money? Dolan made a fortune off of Lin. He was the goose that laid the golden egg and Dolan cashed in on far more than Lin is getting paid. Lin jersey sales were second only to Kobe that season.

@zdiddy4nyk  You keep repeating yourself over and over...LAST YEAR is exactly that, LAST YEAR. Its gone. the only thing that matters is whats happening now!
