Final Score: Knicks 102, Heat 92

The Knicks (13-22) had a strong second half to top the Heat (27-9) 102-92 for the team’s first 3-game winning streak of the season.

The Least You Should Know

Carmelo Anthony had 29 points on 50% shooting, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

Raymond Felton had 13 points, 14 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Amar’e Stoudemire had 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

JR Smith did not play – coach’s decision.

LeBron James had 32 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 6 turnovers for the Heat. Dwyane Wade added 23 points.

Let’s get this out of the way before I get to how awesome the Knicks played. I am thrilled that Mike Woodson finally benched JR Smith. He was more focused on untying shoes than playing basketball, and it was hurting the team. Added to the fact that he’s been playing badly all season. He’s going to have to earn his playing time back.

Anyway, Carmelo Anthony was amazing. He played a “LeBron-like” game in terms of the amount of effort he put out there, especially on defense and the transition game. He passed effectively out of double-teams. And you expect him to score around 30 points and shoot 50% from the field.

But the success on the offensive end starts with Raymond Felton running the pick and roll, especially with Melo, Amar’e, and Bargs. It opened scoring opportunities in the post for those guys and a few open three point shots for Shump.

Next Game: The Knicks visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday at 7:30pm.

A funny thing happened last night. It was almost like somebody is reading this blog. JR didn`t touch the floor, Hard got most of his minutes, Murry got burn ,we played Bargs and Stat/KMart major minutes, Melo played the 3, and the Woodster dropped most of his trite after game sayings, and although he was not eloquent, spoke in a more accurate pattern. Nice job bloggers keep up the good ideas. Oh Ray actually played like a pg , and they switched only when necessary . Wow they looked like a team last night that actually ran stuff

Any of you hear what jr said on postgame? He doesnt know if this is the place for him anymore? Wth? Cant react like that! Thats the reason for being benched! Stop being a baby!

Maybe he was referring to the fact that mills is going to trade him for a bag of pretzels by the end of next week.

Great win tonight.  I was at a NY sports bar with about 12 friends and we had a great time rooting for our team.  We are so happy that Woody finally put JR on the bench so we were in great spirits.

May this is the game to help this team go on a longer run.  We shall see but it was nice to see us beat the Heat tonight.

LMAO at the clowns wanting Melo off this team, This team will not be 4-1 without Melo and Melo is the only player in the league who actually cancels out Lebron on a 1 on 1 situation, too bad Lebron didnt have his boy Battier to bail him out tonight.

This team still needs to play tougher, smarter defense if they want to make noise late in the season and in the playoffs. Still too many missed assignments and miscommunication on defense. Would love to see a tough big brought in here like Humphries from Boston.

I am picturing Pablo, Tyson back and Murry getting more minutes as a combo guard, love his defense.....

Also meta can help too..... Jr gonna have to earn back his minutes, I hope the shoelaces were worth it.

You can have plenty of fun on a basketball court n it does not have to involve shoelaces.....

Love what I have seen from this team.....again, we are a dangerous team.......even without chandler.

We get up for the better teams. Baby steps but I love what I am seeing :)

So proud of this team tonite. Proud of woody for taking control.

How can anyone defend jr getting a dnp? It was well deserved. Best way to get a high paid player who does not care about fines......bench him with a nationally televised game and your team plays great!

Maybe they found a trade partner? Best thing for jr is to go to a veteran team but if he is staying, hopefully this sets him straight.

@Isaac MillerIf hr can sing happy birthday, North Korea is an option.  In all seriousness, woody has to ignore Jr's antics and let him work hard, conform before he gets off the bench.  We can't get much for JR in this state anyway so we need to get his attention by taking away his PT.

@1harris1 You should hear these radio clowns.  Before every Knick/Miami game it is the same thing. 'They have no chance, they can't win, no shot, yada yada'.  Then the Knicks win and they always have an excuse, Hurricane Sandy, etc.  They had no excuse for this game, cause they couldn't find one, but they still have no shot against them in the playoffs.  The old saying, 'You going to believe me or your lying eyes', def applies to all of them.!  To your point, Barkley at half time called them a bad team.

This is a marathon not a sprint, let them all get healthy at the right time and we can beat anyone!

Screw Oakley. What an idiot. The knicks are such a bad team.. blah blah.. this happens every time tnt does the broadcast. I hate oakley. The knicks played sick tonight.. I missed Clyde and Breen tho.

@1harris1 They're paid to say stupid things and to show specific bias. I can't remember the last time they gave due credit to this team. Even last year they managed to nitpick flaws.

@zdiddy4nyk JR won't learn. He's very close to a lost cost. I doubt he'll come to the epiphany that his behavior is detrimental to any ball club.

Imo, the coach still has a lot to do to recover the trust and hope he gained last season.

@zdiddy4nykWe're still too much a perimeter team and that will make us less consistent but we need wins in any way possible now so I don't care how we get it for now.

@buddhabing Their defense is always going to be compromised though without Chandler.  Can't really complain about anything tonight.

screw jr.. I mean he's a grown man yet look at how he reacted to being benched??

doesn't know if this is the place for him?  he just doesn't get it.

@BiggieSmalls Woody did not play this like a fine instrument. Ray played out of his head. He has watched Murry improve and knows he must get his butt in gear or he is out.

I think a team like the bucks would give us Gary Neal to pair them a jr oj mayo brandon knight thing with giannis attetekoumpo they might be alright then they can select a good big like jabari parker or joel embiid in the lottery

@VerySilentJay

Maybe but benching JR is the only way to humble him and let him know that they team will go on without him.

@1harris1 @buddhabing 2 or 3 players where LeBron was one on one with Bargs and he drove (obviously) met with no help D. Not happening with Tyson on the court.

@BiggieSmalls The Knicks haven't been healthy. We all can agree there. However, there were plenty of games this year when they just didn't give effort. Melo and Shump, even while struggling, were the only 2 players all year playing hard every game. We dropped some winnable games due to lack of effort and poor coaching late in games.

The Knicks are playing much better on both ends and are getting contributions from the role players...Finally! There is still a long way to go tho...

@zdiddy4nykYou are looking at his scoring. I thought JR played much smarter and unselfish b-ball in the 1st half.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@zdiddy4nykI thought he was better in the 1st half because he hit some key game winning shots without Melo playing and he was very unselfish then making the extra pass to players like Novak when he had a decent shot himself.

At some pt, it seems things got to JR's head and he thought he was the go to guy and had the green light to do whatever especially when he won the award later in the year.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@zdiddy4nyk Yep the JR from the 1st half of last year to be specific.  However, Coach can maybe save JR by letting him see that he is not irreplaceable especially if he will not do what is expected.

xmenreturn

@zdiddy4nykYep but that is why a team like Indy will always give us fits and the Heat too.  The Heat and us are weak inside.

Only if Kim Kardashian would twerk for the knicks city dancers. Otherwise Humphries isn't close to the player that b argnani or stat is

buddhabing
buddhabing

@Ryan Postal @1harris1 @buddhabing But it does happen with Tyson on the court. Barniani and Amare are very good offensively but a handicap on defensive end. Would trade one of them in heartbeat if i could get Humphries in return to shore up defense and better prepare for the more physical teams in the league.

Chris
Chris

@1harris1 @BiggieSmalls The way this team was playing, they deserved a white flag, as Woody still does. He is not a good coach. He is stubbern and lacks creativity. His coaching is purely negative, that type of coaching lost favor with coaches and players over 30 years ago. There are 1 or 2 coaches in the league that can do that, and it is because they have fostered a great relationship with their players. Woody has no relationship with the players. Case in point he did not tell JR he was not playing. You want your players to respect you, you need the ballz to be upfront at least with them
