Game 18: Knicks vs. Magic, 7:30pm

Knicks vs Magic

Fresh off their win against the spiraling Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks (4-13) will take on the Orlando Magic (6-12) at 7:30pm at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks look to continue what they started last game by hitting three-pointers often and early, then varying their inside-outside attack with their offense centered on Carmelo Anthony swishing or dishing in isolation.

For the Magic, Jameer Nelson and Nik Vucevic had been out for the past few games with injuries. According to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, Nelson is likely to play tonight while Vucevic will test himself out during warm-ups.

The Knicks starting lineup will be Raymond Felton, Iman Shumpert, Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, and Andrea Bargnani. Mike Woodson announced Amar’e Stoudemire will not play since this is the second game of a back-to-back. The Knicks will wear white tonight.

Reporter asked Iman Shumpert what exactly he's "mad" at. Shumpert: "Everything. Including you

Anthony, on his low shot totals: "It's just me trying to do something different. Me scoring 30 wasn't working."

Magic Blog Highlights!!

" I think the Magic have a pretty good chance at this one.

Knicks are on the back of a back-to-back, right? Not that their drubbing of Brooklyn was all that strenuous… hm."

" So that's what Bargnani needed.

Madison Square Garden home refs."

" we are playing the the NY Melo's if he has an off night, we win"

" are we getting owned by Bargnani?"

" I like that the Knicks color guy is so bad

That the play by play guy does the analysis too."

" Wow, Shumpert said he played better last night by being "Pissed off at the World".

" When you get blocked by Barg, its truly an embarrassment."

So as far as I can tell, the #Yankees' strategy this winter is: Go overboard for everyone besides Robinson Cano.

"Melo's not elite"

Whoever said that (likely a horrendous troll) needs to get their head checked. If this team is to achieve big things, it'll be because of Melo's play. Whoever doesn't get this needs to analyze how they see and approach the game.

- Key term: team ball. For the 2nd night in a row, the ball is finally moving with purpose, there's balanced FGA throughout the game, and everyone's getting involved, while everyone's taking the initiative.

- I'm still not sold on the "live by the 3, die by the 3" philosphy. Too uncertain to rely upon, but I'll take it. This team neede desperately some W's to regain a positive atmosphere in a locker room that was struggling.

-Maybe a couple of W's is what this team needed to regain the confidence to help them over the bump, who knows. I'm still not sold on Woodson, especialy in the playoffs. But for now, this team needs W's, results to get their confidence a chemistry bakc, and if Woodson can help this team regain their form, we'll just have to stick with him. 2 W's obviously aren't enough, but I'll take another blowout happily.

- Shump, my man, another solid night from you. As long as you keep doing your thing, you'll shut a lot of people up (except those crazies who think he should be a 15+ & 5 type of player). Just stay strong, keep your confident play, and you'll be fine.

Knicks took care of business, and we can finally say that they did exactly what they were supposed to do: destroy a lesser team.

The fever has broken.

The Knicks seem to know exactly what to do to win games now.

Time to take advantage of this schedule and stack them W's.

@akamarb Always thought The Moz had the ability to get it in, just took him some time.

The culture shock really weighed heavy on him as well.

@orlando_knickfan For the past  2 games we saw more of the Melo of last year. He was letting the game come to him, taking the easy shots and letting go in the tougher situations. As long as he keeps putting the work he has now and his teammates respond, things will improve.

@brookdon Thx buddy. It's a great relief to see these 2 nights in a row.

"so that's what Bargnani needed"

Indeed it was.

@orlando_knickfan I think it was the right move. They've already been stuck with too many big contracts that haven't panned out. They'll be in a position to get a hold of good players and move forward with more talent.

And I don't even like baseball.

@moneyball Can't get ahead of ourselves. Let's remember: we blew out to subpar teams. We just palyed the type of ball we thoguht we were gonna see from the start of the season.

There's still a lot of work to do, a lot of ground to cover.

TC's return will help a ton, but this team needs to keep up the energy and confidence.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@moneyball Melo's beginning to regain trust on his teammates. You could tell at the beginning of the season that he had trouble trusting in the shooting of the rest of the roster, and he tried to do things on his own.

As long as his teammates are executing and hitting shots, Melo will pass, make no mistake. But if Felton, JR, Shumpert, and AB aren't finding their shots, there has to be an alternative to isolation sets.

Let's hope the team can keep shooting well.

@akamarb He was never leaving millions on the table. He can't play for the Lakers with the $$$$

Kobe makes.

@akamarb Ok...slow your roll there cowboy, it was just the Nets and Orlando.

Let's see how this team keeps going, if they can put together a nice streak, and see how they play against tougher competition.

We're still 5-13 after all. No need to get ahead of ourselves.

@goodpoint Probably. I read how he struggled acclimating to America and NY but he REALLY wanted to stay a Knick.

VerySilentJay

@akamarb Make no mistake, if he can keep this play up, you'll be begging for him not to be traded. He's our best perimeter defender and is now bringing energy on the offensive end.

He's not gonna live up to your 15+ & 6 standards, but neither would your boy Faried.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@akamarb You've been asking for Shumpert to be traded for weeks for now. Don't run away from that now. You've compared numbers, even went as far as to use advanced stats (such as the useless per 36) to make your case. Remain consistent. You're as strong as the strength of your pov.

I've been on Felton's case probably much as anyone. Yet I was probably the only one to say that Felton's a key cog on this team's system. When he's consistent, so is the team.

He's been playing through injuries the entire season. Hasn't been at 100% yet, and he's still stepping up.

Felton gets no love, and he deserves some credit.
