It’s been quite the summer for Andrea Bargnani, one of the newest members of the New York Knicks. But not everything has been going so well.
Bargnani has been ruled out from the European Championships next month as he deals with a respiratory infection. It’s even more discerning as the forward reported to Team Italy’s training camp in great shape.
Associate coach Mario Fioretti believes Bargnani is upset he won’t be able to contribute to Team Italy this summer.
“I think he’s very, very disappointed,” Fioretti told The Post. “He spent one month before training camp getting in shape. He was ready, with the right mental approach. Everything was set for him.”
Earlier this month, Fioretti praised Bargnani for a more focused demeanor. And that’s great news for Knicks fans.
Fioretti expects Bargnani to maintain that mental approach and be physically prepared for Knicks training camp, which opens on Oct. 1.
“I know he feels better, so I can’t imagine him not being ready for October,” Fioretti said.
