I read with interest the draft pick debate and the multitude of  Isiah/Grunwald/Dolan supporters of trading draft picks for players.

2014 2nd- Camby

2014 2nd- Bargnani (OKC pick from the Ronnie Brewer trade)

2015 2nd- Camby

2016 1st- Bargnani

2016 2nd- Felton

2017 2nd Bargnani

Debate these trades! I dare you!

Is this a reaction by Phil to the MSG media policy and his desire to not follow it?

@Knicks_Fanatic. Those people just don't want to admit that those were ALL boneheaded moves. No team is offering up good "proven" players to take a hit or miss risk in the draft, their only trading these so called proven guys because they are of no use to the team, because they SUCK....I'll take my gamble in the draft 9 times out of 10. It's the scouts and GMs job to evaluate the talent available in the draft! Look at Michael Carter Williams, picked like 11th and wins rookie of the year, by a land slide...

We'll those payers can't help on the court nor do they have value via trade collectively or individually. However trading picks isn't necessarily a bad thing if preserved and traded for the right player. For example if the Knicks retained all if the picks you mentioned they would be in position to make a serious bid for a player of value to help boost the roster. What's done is done now so at this point there's no need crying over spilled milk. 4 2nd round picks and a first.... Let's move on.

@Knicks_Fanatic  for those players it shouldn't have been necessary ... most here were  talking about the pick in the melo trade which most gms would do for a top 5 player in the game.

Well look, trading for proven players can sometimes be a crapsh- oh wait...

Or Phil looking to see if there are any players worth moving up for.

@ kincks _ Fanatic No. It's a reaction by Phil to the "stuff" created by media Jim Dolan has sought to mitigate with said policies. NY sports media is like the Wild West, unchecked or policed. Rick Carlise called it a cesspool. This is Phil experiencing what Dolan accurately warned him about but deciding to bite the bullet and continue to engage the media for benefit of the fans.

Reminds me a bit of James Harden

I didn't think of that. I was just assuming that since Grunwald and Mills never spoke to the press, Phil was breaking new ground.

@ Knicks_ Fanatic Jim Dolan has made his mistakes. But I perceive that the NY sports media's "stuff" has had a profound impact on the way you view Jim Dolan and how you interpret the Knicks' recent history.

Having been a Knicks fan for over 50 years, I can state fairly that the reign of Jim Dolan has been far and away the worst in my lifetime. Blaming the media for the recent failures of the franchise doesn't pass the sniff test. We spent $90 million for a lottery team and have no draft picks. That's not on the media.

@ Knicks_ Fanatic "We spent $90 million for a lottery team and have no draft picks. That's not the media"

The above statement written by you is a good example of the misguided frustration of fans like you. Whose pockets did that $90 million come from? Jim Dolan. And who do you think sacrifices his 'reputation' in and with the media in attempts to cure these disappoints? Jim Dolan. Getting rid of Walsh and Dantoni after it became clear that they preferred to pair fractured knee Amare with inflamed ankles Deron Williams over Carmelo Anthony was unpopular yet the right move. Getting rid of Grumwald after he amnestied Billups instead of Amare, leaving the knicks with a shabby backcourt was unpopular yet the right move.

This year's team although not contenders clearly underachieved. But blaming Dolan for all of its recent mishaps is lazy, redundant, and misguided. You cannot ignore the politics of the media. More specifically, to think that the media will not attempt to mischaracterize or vilify someone who significantly undermines it's access to the knicks is beyond naive.

@RivDim

You continue to somehow link the media with the failures of the Knicks. The media hasn't hired or fired any coach or GM on the Knicks. They haven't executed a trade or made a draft pick. They are not the CEO of MSG.

Perhaps if the media would write positive articles on how Jim Dolan is willing to spend money on his team, we would win a title?
