James Dolan needs to pipe down

Harris Decker

alg-dolan-msg-jpgI’d imagine that James Dolan is going to be less than thrilled with all of the moves that Phil Jackson plans to make as president. I’m sure that he would have liked to keep long time assistant Herb Williams and we all know that there are probably dozens of guys working at the Garden that are there because of a ‘hookup.’ If this is going to work, Dolan needs to get out of the way.

We all debated this relationship and thought that Phil would only take the job if he was given complete control. It seems that he does have that control, despite the report by Frank Isola in the Daily News this morning. Dolan didn’t stop Jackson from doing anything (that we know of) but like we’ve seen before, his mouth is getting in the way.

Dolan needs to go away. Don’t enter Madison Square Garden. Don’t speak to the players and don’t go anywhere near a reporter. Every sound, whether whispered from a corner or spoken at a podium is finding its way onto a back page. If this is going to be the case, Dolan needs to be quiet and stop talking to everyone!

It’s funny. For the better part of two years, we didn’t hear a word from Dolan. The team was winning and things were good at the Garden. Then he tells the world that the Knicks are championship bound and the team goes on to win 37 games. Is it a coincidence? Probably. Still, I felt better as a fan when the owner was counting his money in private and letting the “basketball guys” — Glen Grunwald at the time and Phil Jackson now — make the important decisions.

Be quiet, James Dolan!

We didn't hear from Dolan often because he plugged all the leaks at the garden, meaning anyone who would talk Isola,

and made sure nearly everyone on board was from CAA.

How that men have fallen, Phil hints he wants to smash the place naked like a wrecking ball,

the leaks they be-seaping out all over the place

on the other hand, Dolan owns the freaking team and half of NY so he can say whatever he wants..did you think the honeymoon was going to last more than a month after the wedding?  pachaaah…y'all should know better than that

Come on guys ...... NY Daily News is behind all this junk media blitz.

Our medical staff has not been great btw.... Who signs off on Amare with  knees and eye balls ?? Then the rest ...

if that is by a slim chance true re Dolan vs Phil on keeping them.

Guitar Shimmy needs to fall back. He said he would in Phil's news conference!

I have to give Dolan a pass on the medical staff. If they also service cable vision, then I can kinda understand where Dolan is coming from

Let's see -- beat reporter has to write something every day, this particular beat reporter has limited access to the Knicks, this reporter has an ax to grind, etc.  I despise Dolan's history of meddling, but this couldn't be less of a story.  Slow news day kind of stuff.

Dwill and Joe Johnson have over 200 mil in total contracts, and they are relying on two walking fossils in Pierce and garnett. Throw in the reliance on journeymen Thornton and anderson along with blatche who thinks he's dirk, Hardaway, and shaq all rolled in to one, and you just have laugh.

Net fans up until this season swore to high heaven that Dwill was leaps and bounds better than Melo. Dwill is not even the best player on the Nets.

I Actually am in an argument with maybe the lone net fan in central Florida.

It's funny that "real" Knicks fans wanted to protest against Dolan running this franchise into the ground but the idiot fans like Biggie made fun of them and said they weren't true fans, when only a few showed up.

I don't get Dolan paying Phil $12M a year and not letting him have full control and make the decisions. If I'm paying someone that much more than every other executive I'm putting as much responsibility on him as possible to make him earn every penny and not have any excuses. Otherwise what's the point if he's just going to meddle like with any other executive and he may as well just hire a cheap puppet.

Nets, yet again, take a back seat to the golf playing and dysfunctional knicks . Lol

I think Harris Decker needs to pipe down, making a mountain out of a molehill.  The Knick off season is 7 days old

Relax, Isola is a lighting rod, stop buying in.  Next article by isola is going to be a leak from a source that dolan insists on hiring isiah as coach. his job is to stir the pot

I wish James Dolan goes away!! Sell the New York Knicks franchise. Hopefully a new owner that have the knowledge of basketball, put the fans and players first before profits. Dolan's record speak for itself for the past 14 years. He's gots to go!!!!!!!

I understand the natural hatred for James Dolan but let's be realistic here.. All owners have a say in the hiring/firing of personnel.

What we're all failing to acknowledge, in attempts to overreact and blow this "headline" out of proportion, is that Dolan TRIED to prevent Phil from that transactrion to some extent.

Past tense.

Ultimately, Dolan embraced Phil's acumen and didn't veto the move. That's all that matters. We all gotta relax!

@orlando_knickfan  Dolan owns both Cablevision and the Knicks...but these are two separate entities. They would not use the same medical service for both. I can't see a Cablevision medical staff treating ACL or whatever athletes get. The medical group would be specific for this.

Slow news that trumps the other team in town that is in the playoffs; hilarious

Bottom line is Phil takes a backseat to no one and he doesn't have to.

@Greg Serious  I wish he would sell them too. He would make a huge profit and we fans would be ecstatic!

Seriously, he hasnt even done anything here.  Phil is the president of basketball operations and is in charge of basketball functions, if Dolan wants to hire his friends in other areas then who really cares.  As long as phil handles the coaching staff and player personnel

Yeah, I understand Phil too.

OOnly thing is cable vision pays the bills and they probably service execs and maybe field staff. It's hard to get rid of the medical groups and then have to do all the research and stuff all over again.

@OLDKNICK @Greg Serious  Because if he can step down as the Cablevision President, why not step down as owner of the Knicks!? Being a successful business is one thing, but to own a team that been a dismal, that couldn't build a championship caliber team financial wise, been worst since day 1 that's another. I think Dolan needs to convince himself that his time has come as the owner. Plus, a death threat  past February from Twitter to Dolan, about 10 people protest outside of Madison Square Garden, people going on Knicks Blog to chime-in on how Dolan stinks as the owner, etc etc and what needs to be done. With that being said, at some point he will cede as Knicks owner soon
