J.R. benched because of comments on Monday night?

Ben Kopelman

It was a bit bizarre to see J.R. Smith sitting, while a very sluggish Knicks team struggled to get up and down the floor Tuesday night. The situation seemed to scream for a pair of fresh legs that could spark the offense. So, regardless of his current positioning on the depth chart, I was still surprised that he did not play at all last night.

Something must have happened after the whole shoelace incident for Smith to find himself back in the doghouse, right? He played well enough in his limited role against the Sixers and Suns to have earned those same minutes, no?

Lo and behold, something may have happened causing Woodson’s reversal.

Mouthing off less than a week after being benched? Sounds like a good way to find yourself back in the principal’s office. J.R. continues to prove that he is his own worst enemy.

I guess Woodson is learning what most Knicks fans already know:

J.R. is very unpredictable and hard to count on.

OFF TOPIC - Need Help from my fellow TKB's

I have a set of tickets for next weeks game against the sixers next wed. ( Jan 22nd 7:30 pm ). They are very good seats  in section 115 and their face value is 180.00. I will not be able to attend this game. Here is my question..

Do you guys know of a good site where I can sell them - or would I be better off going to MSG and trying to sell them in person ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....Please help a fellow TKBer out with information !!

I'm telling ya that JR is suffering from a shoe string fetish and unless teams go to buckles, he will continue to have issues.  Ask Biggie because he had this problem before too before his parents bought him buckled braced shoes!  Now he just looks srtangely cute and stupid!

Why is everyone making JR seem like the savior that would have won us the game yesterday? Had he played he would've just chucked up shots or do something stupid and the outcome would've been no different.

Trade him to GS for Marshall Brooks.

Heat send Joel Anthony and two pics to Celts, Celts send Jordan Crawford to Golden State, and they send Toney Douglass to Miami, where he'll probably get waived.

Conclusion? C's are tanking. I can't believe they beat us by like 40.

You guys think the celtics are going to hold onto Rondo or get rid of him for tanking?

If this is true, then I think you have to give props to Woodson for making a stand. It's a shame that it happened in a game that we probably could have used him.

We should be talking about how K mart has been absolutely beasting out there, Or Stat looking good and putting up numbers, not about this clown.

JR has turned into Marbury

When he's not in the game the team plays better, trading JR is our first step towards the playoffs.

LOL JR SMITH ..PUBLIC ENEMY #1. THE SHOELACE MURDER....

Jr is the biggest distraction in basketball, the sooner the Knicks trade him, the faster they can get back to just playing ball. Jr is only worth his trouble if he's producing. And he's not trade him.

You can give me $600K ANY DAY of the week and I'll be upset for you.
Ian Begley @IanBegley

Sources say J.R. Smith is still very upset that the #Knicks chose to release his brother, Chris. He'd hinted at his displeasure on Instagram

dude this is a DOLAN issue...he is not playing because he is now on DOlans bad side....this is not a Woody issue , if it was up to Woody - he would have played last night...Hes on the wrong side of DOlan and his future will not be great for him

@knickster Wow didn't know about this. Just goes to show Smith is an individual with discipline problems that range far beyond basketball. Guy just makes bad decisions. Story also provides some insight into how he has seems to always get away with not having to pay fully for his transgressions. No wonder he reacts badly when Woodson tries to lay the law down on him.

@kneggyknik So Woodson was secretly involved with the Denver Nuggets organization and also with the New Orleans Hornets when JR played there?

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@kneggyknik The dude's been this way long before Woodson.

The only difference between Woodson and every other coach JR's had is that this one actually trusted him, went out on a limb, and vouched for him.

And this is how JR reciprocates.

@rgm891

I think the C's will hold on to Rondo.  My guess is that they will look to package some/all of those 1st-rounders (I think they have something like 9 picks over the next 5-6 years?) with the contracts of Wallace and Green (who is still a productive player) for an All-Star within the next two years.

Mr.Boots
Mr.Boots

@purehussle And that is why he has to go. Eventually, the JR drama will distract the players as it is now distracting the press and the fans.

@SportsMeccaNYC Because it was with Masai and Masai was asking for Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr and Dolan did not want to have to hear the public bashing him for getting punked in yet another deal with Masai.

@purehussle Tell me the team that is looking for a guy like JR?  If he had an expiring contract, that would be one thing, but he's signed for 3 years.

Knicks_Fanatic

@orlando_knickfan

Chris Smith had a clause in his contract that would have paid him for next season, if he was still on the roster on July 30, 2014. So by staying a Knick, he would got another $880,000. That's why JR is pissed off.

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@orlando_knickfan Isn't his brother in the D-League? If he's good enough, a team will pick him up. How entitled can one feel? "Betray" me all day long if it means I get paid half a million to be a Knick and sit on the bench.

@MeloStat301 It doesn't matter who Marshall Brooks is if it means getting rid of that Smith clown

@kneggyknik @rgm891 but trading tyson would almost certainly gain a 1st rounder which in turn can get sent to boston along shump and felton

@BiggieSmalls @SportsMeccaNYC I don't know if you watch any other basketball besides the Knicks, but Lowery has played great this season.  He's been as good as any point guard in the Eastern conference.  Don't believe me, go look at his numbers.

VerySilentJay

@Jimmy @VerySilentJay @kneggyknik What JR does or doesn't do has a direct effect on his teammates, coach, and play.

You put this all together and you have a suuposedly key player that has a negative contrinution on a losing team.

Of course it matters.

madskills

@lindro88 @BiggieSmalls @SportsMeccaNYC As good as any PG in the Eastern Conference? He's been playing well but I wouldn't go that far. I can name quite a few off the top of my head who I'd take over Lowry any day. Lowry is not worth any trade involving a draft pick, nor is he worth including Shumpert or Hardaway Jr in a deal for imo. Especially when he's an expiring contract.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@Tikki

What makes the deal enticing is that we have only our mini-MLE to add a player in the off season. We have no drafts picks, so it's unlikely we could get a player of Lowry's skill until 2015. In addition, getting rid of Felton and MWP contracts would also be a plus.

The problem with trading for Lowry is that you have to resign him, no matter what the cost. You could see a situation where other teams up the ante to get the Knicks to pay more.

Tikki
Tikki

@Knicks_Fanatic @Kenny Kaufman

I gotta say . . . that Lowry deal is such a tough call.  You make that trade, and you're essentially saying you'll be willing to re-sign Lowry (at whatever his FA value ends up being), or else you've given up a 1st-rounder for a 1/2 season of play.

Reliable PG play is such a glaring need for this team, and I love Lowry's ability on both ends.  Think he'd be a great fit.

Kenny Kaufman

Wrong the deal was 2 of 3 Shump,THJR, and 1st round pick!
