For those doubting the Phil + Melo combo, remember Phil managed another "selfish" player in Kobe Bryant. Don't get it twisted.

It's strange how polarizing a figure Melo is with us Knick fans. I guess it goes back to the trade. Some take it too personal when he's criticized and others can't wait for him to leave NY.

I personally can't stand that fake Magic Johnson, great player but a total phony I've seen him at the Garden acting like he like being there, all the while scheming to sabotage the Knicks. I'm reminded of the time he recommend Issaih Thomas to the knicks knowing full well what a fuvk up he was. And then you see him the other day lobbying with Kobe to get Phil back. He should be banned for the garden.

Good night folks. We have Phil now and there will be many days to has about Melo and other decisions Phil will have to make.   It should be fun now having some hope and being able to discuss future moves.

Knicks announcement:

"Herb Williams will be taking over as interim coach..."

I wonder if the same Melo homers who are so willing to put down their MSG protest signs because they are infatuated with Phil, will be so quick to defend Phil when he calls out Melo in the media, or just keep blaming every teammate he's ever had or going to have because of Phil.

Can ou imagine if Melons decides to stay and for whatever reason he and Phil beef nasty during the season like he did with coach Karl. Who would win that battle of wills? I mean Phil does have a reputation for getting under your skin. And I think Melo is a sensitive soul.

If Melo stays, he'll need a major additude adjustment with Phil. Someone's got to break. We'll see in due time who that is. But I am rooting for Melo to stick with it and to sacrifice his game and the spotlight for team wins. At this stage in his career, what else is there for him to accomplish other than winning in NYC.

Ok...If ppl don't know yet, Melo has an old school game. He post up and bullies ppl and is a lethal shooter. His style of play will prolong his career as opposed to a Wade who relies a lot on his atheleticsm, who btw is at the end of his career bc of it. I actually like that he doesnt have hops bc he plays with his feet on the ground and is more beneficial for his body. Melo has at least 4 years left to continue dominating the way he does now.

And the fact that he now has Phil he will work less harder to score preserving his body even more.

Now I cant wait for Melo to announce that he will resign with Knicks!

Magic is a lifetime Laker. He's got nothing against the Knicks.

Why would Phil call out Melo in the media? What are you talking about.

darealeric

Melo only cares about his brand and hooking his homies in CAA up with crazy loot.

@nixredux lol If Phil thinks he can win with Melo then let's do it.  I just don't see the match myself.  But this is my team and I'll root hard for whoever Phil goes with.

People are getting all bent out of shape about Melo.  I just want us to win and if it's Melo or not, I don't care really.

@lobcity  you are exactly right in your assessment.

@monaz Tue but you usually get old superstars not young studs. Why give up a young stud to get an expiring only to have to go out the next year and find a new young stud?

What you're is hoping that Phil can find a diamond in the rough from another team and/or take back another so called top player that the other team wants to part with (because they have no good use for)

This is Isiah Thomas with Marbury and Eddie Curry.  You're just hoping that Phil is better at finding something from the garbage can

I truly doubt Phil came out of retirement to be forced to microwave building around Melo when he knows in 2015, he has plenty of room make a play for the dudes he really want.

You guys make it like he just has to have Melo and meanwhile he hasn't even spoken to the dude.

chudogz1
chudogz1

@ monaz. Times have changed in the NBA. Indiana was thinking they could get value for Granger also, they got a second rounder. I think we may have to let them expire, unfortunately.

Sandro
Sandro

@monaz

So, teams will give away their young and talented players for expiring contracts?

lobcity1

Carl hill.

I agree and im glad Phil is taking over and not some fans here. If we get a superstar he will want the Max anyways and Melo still has A few years left in his prime so idk wtf ppl are concerned about.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@carl hill So now players won't come for Phil but they will come for Melo?  lol

Phil has 11 rings without Melo!  Melo has 0 rings without Phil. So who you think drive the players?

nixredux

I hope Melo stays, but as you say it's more than likely a bad match with Phil. Bad feng shui?

As far as Melo only caring about his brand? That's just the way things are in today's hyper commercialized game. Just like players today can shoot behind the arc but can't shoot a mid range jumper, or God forbid a simple free throw.

@xmenreturn @carl hill

Lol, believe it or not, there was life before Carmelo, and there will be life after.

@monaz @xmenreturnOnce again the last time was a pipe dream and I was here just like now telling fellow Knicks fans that and that LBJ would sign with Miami.

I was crazy each and every day here. lol

Some could not understand why LBJ wouldn't come here.

Simple. He was trying to win his 1st ring and he needed to go with a proven talent that wouldn't wither on the big stage.

Why would he come to us then when he needed help and we were worse off than his Cavs team. At least they got to the Finals

Each year LBJ didn't win a rinf, that money became King Kong and he was being compared to MJ, Bird, Magic, Kobe and etc and he had no rings.

Now it;s different, he now has rings and now it's time for him to come to the biggest venue and for this to be HIS team and let others follow him here not have Melo here, being Melo's team.  Been there done that!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@monaz @xmenreturn I'm saying Phil needs to go after luring LBJ here.  LBJ now has his rings and he won't need Miami and Wade anymore as much.

I'm hoping Phil goes for the best and convince the best that playing in the Mecca is for the King and if LBJ can win here,he will be the Greatest ever.

With Phil and LBJ, players will then come running and LBJ has the b-ball IQ to tun the heck out of the triangle.

This is just my opinion and that Phil has to think outside the box and lure the best talent that fits his system and plans

@monaz

The "best" return, in terms of talent (not contract), I could imagine would be Tyreke Evans or Eric Gordon from the Pelicans.  But the Knicks would probably have to package 2nd-rounder and/or at least Tyler, Murry, etc. to nab one of those two.

Sandro
Sandro

@monaz @Sandro

Yeah.

The Suns had Okafor's expiring at 14 mil. They couldn't get nothing for him.
The Jazz had Jefferson's expiring at 11 mil. They couldn't get nothing for him.
The Bobcats had Gordon's expiring at 13 mil. They couldn't get nothing for him.

Yet the Knicks will get "2-3 good players" for Bargnani's 12 mil.

BigChiefTriangle
BigChiefTriangle

@monaz @Sandro

The Pacers got Evan Turner for Danny Granger, who is a decent wing player.

Bargnani's value is below Granger (no contender would be interested in Bargnani, unlike Granger), so you can only assume the Knicks would be able to net a player worse than Evan Turner...that's nothing to get excited about.

The Bulls got a 1st-rounder for Deng, but that's partiallly because the Cavs thought they might be interested in re-signing Deng to long-term deal (because Deng is a very good, reliable veteran player).  That would likely not be the case with Amare or Bargnani.

Sandro
Sandro

@monaz @Sandro

In a world where Bargnani can get us 2-3 good players, we can win with Melo and Amare.

Sadly, that world only exists inside your head.

Sandro
Sandro

@monaz

Why do they need cap relief...so they can sign young, talented players...after trading away the ones they got?

Good strategy.

Mel Brown
Mel Brown

@Sandro if you feel that way   (which you do most of the time) then you don't have to "go again" with the knicks.....beat it.

Sandro
Sandro

@Jerry Gee @Sandro@carl hill

I heard all that talk into the summer of 2010.
Amare was the outcome and we never moved past the 2nd round.

Here we go again.

Sandro
Sandro

@carl hill @Sandro

Yes, specially the good supporting cast part, with our tremendous cap space and draft picks.

Sandro
Sandro

@carl hill @Sandro

Carmelo isn't respected by the refs.
Carmelo never had a good coach.
Carmelo never had a good supporting cast.

Seems pretty unlucky to me.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@SuperDuper @xmenreturn@carl hill Phil has th ability to build a team that he covets. That will be the determining factor. it's not if we like Melo, it's whether Phil sees Melo as someone that fits his needs.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@monaz @xmenreturn Dude, Phil has a 5 year conttract and he needs to build a team in that tiime not risk doing an Isiah and trying to build around Melo who has never won anything.

chudogz1
chudogz1

@ xmenreturn. The one word answer as to why players didn't come to play with Melo is DOLAN...

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@monaz @xmenreturnLOl So a team is going to give you a young stud for STATues?

You have unicorn under your bed?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@monaz So you think Phil would do an Isiah and try to get rtid of STATues at the start of the year and take back a risk player?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@monaz Dude everybody knows we don't have cap space and we won't have any next year either. Does that mean we will suck next year with Melo too?

Does Melo or Phil wants to want another year for the rebuilding to start?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@carl hill @xmenreturnThen you think Melo is more important than Phil!

You do realize that Melo has been here for 3 years and what do we have for it?

Why aren't the players coming before?

@carl hill @BigChiefTriangle

Yes, in stark contrast to this wonderful season.
