Sam SpiegelmanGiven the Knicks’ disastrous Christmas Day performance, it seems silly to dish out an award for outstanding play.
But, in the absence of Carmelo Anthony against the Thunder and an early week victory over the Magic, J.R. Smith stepped up offensively.
Smith scored 18 and 20 points in the two games this week, and has scored in double-figures (18 points per game) in each of the Knicks’ past five contests.
Over the past games, Smith has been a more consistent shooter as well with a 40-percent mark from the field and 45 percent from the perimeter.
While Smith’s inconsistency has been maddening this season, it appears the sharp-shooter is finding a groove. He certainly stepped up his game against the Thunder on Christmas, though he alone could not keep pace with the high-flying offense headlined by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
