Knicks Blog Player of the Week: J.R. Smith

Sam Spiegelman

Given the Knicks’ disastrous Christmas Day performance, it seems silly to dish out an award for outstanding play.

But, in the absence of Carmelo Anthony against the Thunder and an early week victory over the Magic, J.R. Smith stepped up offensively.

Smith scored 18 and 20 points in the two games this week, and has scored in double-figures  (18 points per game) in each of the Knicks’ past five contests.

Over the past games, Smith has been a more consistent shooter as well with a 40-percent mark from the field and 45 percent from the perimeter.

While Smith’s inconsistency has been maddening this season, it appears the sharp-shooter is finding a groove. He certainly stepped up his game against the Thunder on Christmas, though he alone could not keep pace with the high-flying offense headlined by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

They have been awful since they beat Toronto. They really miss Grakowski and McDonald.

No. Isles and Caps have both played 78 games.

I was watching a little of the Ranger Minnesota game and this kid Matt Dumba (defenseman) of coarse picked after Griffen Reinhart looks like he's going to be a star.

@mrcisback

One of the funniest things I ever read on this blog was, during that draft year when we thought we might draft Dumba, a picture of him standing in between Wang and Capuano might have a caption of "Dumb, Dumba and Dumbest". That was hillarious. I was LMFAO.

Anyone remember who posted that?

Washington actually pulls ahead because they have 1 more ROW.

No they don't. They won in the shootout. They are technically in third.

@mrcisback

If Washington wins their game in hand, they are ahead of us. And PIT has a game in hand on us too.

@puckdad99 @TomDinNJ @mrcisback That's a good one... he doesn't know the telephone number for 9-1-1.  How did you ever think of that one?  Are you a professional comedian or something... because you have some serious talent my friend.  That and he doesn't know how to spell ROW...!  Now that's pure comedic genius.  Oh boy... my eyes... the tears are running down my cheeks.  I can't...... stop..... laughing..... my stomach hurts... I think I just wet my pants.

It would be nice to see an Islander defenseman drop down to block a shot once and a while. Especially in the 3rd period. The NHL channel is now referring to the Islanders as the badly slumping Islanders.

I just watched the last 10 minutes of the third period and OT of the Washington game and the Caps color guy "Laughlin (pronounced locker)" was giggling on how the Islanders blew a 2 goal game.

Caps won. We are now tied with them for second. Looking more and more like a first round date with the rangers. IF, we can somehow get 4 points in the next for games. Technically we hold the 2nd spot as of right now.

its a domino effect.....the owner sticks with a shi t GM..The GM sticks with a shi t coach and the coach sticks with some shoet players.
