Knicks have an interest in Patric Young?

Sam Spiegelman

The clock is ticking for the New York Knicks to make a move to get into the first round of Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Reports indicate the team could dangle Iman Shumpert — perhaps to the Oklahoma City Thunder — in order to facilitate a deal.

The team has oft been linked to P.J. Hairston, who was expelled by the University of North Carolina in December and has since been playing in the D-League.

But another player has reportedly surfaced on the Knicks’ radar.

According to the New York Post, the Knicks are eyeing Florida center Patric Young. As a senior, Young averaged 11 points and 6.0 rebounds, and is expected to be the second-round pick.

Young worked out for the Knicks earlier this month.

This is a smoke screen. They are not drafting a sg. If Enus is there in the late teens early 20's they nab him.

Jabari parkers athleticism will come into question when he plays against NBA talent. Dudes kinda sluggish to me.

Jabari Parker got a guarantee from the Bucks, so it's either there or Cleveland.

New thread is up.. LeRing, Melo and Kobe to join forces in LA rumors... SMH

I'd take a Patric Young in the late 2nd or as a UDFA.  He's not worth more than that.  If we're drafting a big guy in the early 2nd, i'd rather have Mitch McGarry or Dwight Powell.

I post a formal request to the SNY braintust to start a draft night thread tomorrow instead of letting some old thread accumulate 5000 posts.

Yes, that's just what we need... another PF.

now Amare, Bargnani, Tyler, Odom and KMart can finally get some rest.

Get a PG and get rid of Chandler. That would be a great draft night

Specifically, two teams known to be in the mix for Anthony’s services this summer, Chicago and Houston, are also considering the possibility of separately pursuing Love. Anthony is expected to make a decision on his free agent destination relatively quickly. That means that, by the end of the first week of July, either the Bulls or Rockets could be left empty-handed — or both, should Anthony return to New York. Sporting News

So does a quick decision mean a return to NY or a quick exit??  Chicago and Houston are ready for plan B (love) if melo doesn't decide to go to those places.

Patric Young is from Jacksonville and played 4 years for Billy Donovan at Florida. He will be a second round pick. Think of him on offense with a game similar to Kendrick Perkins and on defense like Tyson Chandler. He will get garbage buckets and offensive rebounds. He is a below average big man on that side of the court. On defensive, he has the quickness to guard wing players and strength to guard anyone this side of Shaq. He is NBA ready to go from a physical standpoint. In the locker room he is a big plus. Patric Young is a role player and not a star, hence his 2nd round draft value.

The guys that label players "soft" will "Love" him!

Heat trying to package 26 and cole to get napier cause lebron wants him.

Why is chamlers not the one to go?

I'd rather see a package of Chandler and Shump for a better return than a late 1st or 2nd rounder.

So the clips and lakers want to pry melo away.

From LA I want the 7th pick.

From clips I want griffin and collison

Young and Tyler, the bash bros. Although I feel we could do better for shump.

@Scott Berger-Felder  Isnt laterally quick, I agree...but his b-ball IQ is off the charts...sometimes smarts go a longer way then pure athleticism.  Will be interesting to see how both he and wiggins come into their own.

@OLDKNICK This is a very deep draft , the more picks we can obtain the better.

@OLDKNICK What about you Old Knick? You're the sleeper pick. Im surprised there's no draft profile on you yet.

@rgm891 And get a semi decent big with the exception.

That would round it out.

Tomorrow will be fun.

@MeloStat301  I believe it when I see it. Both have to do a lot and give up a lot to land Melo. At the end, either of them will guarantee Melo a chip. Bulls are not winning because of DRose will never ever be the same player and Houston trio of D12, Melo, and Harden will not mesh well and it will be a time bomb.....

@Knicks_Fanatic I love his size and Phil and Fish can work with that,he would be a nice piece to add.

@Knicks_Fanatic His offensive game and defensive games are nowhere near your comparisons.  He's a high energy role player with good defensive skills, but poor offensive post skills.  He's a poor man's udonis haslem.

@orlando_knickfan They don't have the cap space.

They need to lose Nash and sign Gasol to a lower contract, or flat out trade him for a cheaper player.

@Sandro Guedes LOL no.  Assuming you're basing that off of our current roster situation though...

@barnaby87 @Scott Berger-Felder that camby trade was so bad!!!!! dude played literally 10 games!!! we gave up 3 players and 2 second rounders!!!

oaktownbg
oaktownbg

@Tony Fonseca @MeloStat301 actually they don't have to give up anything if Melo decides to just walk.  he doesnt have to agree to a sign and trade, and he may not want to  given the impact of his last move on the knicks.

NoVaCaInE

@Tony Fonseca @MeloStat301 I agree. Houston should be trying to pry away Rondo from Boston. They need a real PG and leader, not another scorer. Scoring wasn't Houston's problem at all!

A Rondo, Harden, Dwight trio I feel puts them right behind the Spurs in the West.

Every team that's a so called contender has to make moves if they want to get Melo.

@Sandro Guedes @barnaby87 A specimen?  The guy's a poor man's udonis haslem.  Nothing more than a high energy role player with virtually no offensive game.

johneco

@Sandro Guedes @barnaby87  I disagree about Young vs Hairston.  To me (and everyone else judging by mock drafts) Hairston is much rarer and more valuable.

Hairston's body is built for the NBA.  He tore up the D League.  And he has rare shooting skills.

Young is averaging 6 rebounds in the NCAA as a senior.

Tony Fonseca
Tony Fonseca

@SheSaidSpikeWho  We are talking about big moves.. shedding a lot of $$$ and deplete their roster to land Melo. SnT is the best option.

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@Tony Fonseca @NoVaCaInE @MeloStat301  Jeremy Lin is there.  He just needs more PT.

johneco
johneco

@Sandro Guedes @johneco @barnaby87  I'm down for that if Ennis is available, but I do like Hairston if he's not.

Young will get drafted.  e.g. DraftExpress has him going #42.
