Knicks eyeing Gasol-Melo combo

The New York Knicks are optimistic that they can resign Carmelo Anthony and president Phil Jackson is going to his old stomping ground for help. The Knicks are determined to go after Lakers free agent center Pau Gasol and pair him with Anthony (ESPN, June 28).

The Knicks don’t have salary cap room to offer Gasol other than a $4 million exception, but will go after the Spaniard regardless.

The Knicks’ belief that they can resign Anthony boils down to a connection with Jackson and money. The Knicks can offer Anthony a $129 million deal with a full max contract that other teams can’t match. If Anthony leaves without a sign and trade, his max contract is 4-years $95.9 million. Anthony also still loves playing at Madison Square Garden.

If Melo leave 30 mil on the table, thats 30 Mil he'll never recover. His next contract will most likely be for a significant pay cut.

I think melo stays in new York if rose and noah were healthy then its a no brainer to go to Chicago but its to many uncertainties

This just in - every team in the NBA to pursue good players...

Phoenix does have about $35 million in cap space. They could sign both Melo and LeBron and team them with Dragic and Bledsoe. The would have to work a sign and trade but have lots of young talent to offer. Why not make a run at Melo and LeBron? The fan base will get pumped up and it doesn't cost a dime.

The only way Melo could decide right now that he is going to Chicago is if Nike promised to sweeten the pot and "augment" his earnings, so he felt comfortable taking the crumbs Chicago could offer. If that's the case I'll never buy another pair of Nikes.

How much less will Bosh really take? Imo I think it's ridiculous if Bosh takes 15Mill or less. There's a market for Bosh and he could get paid. If I am Phil I'll persue Bosh bc if the Heat really want to have a better bench then they need to break up the big 3. .......Alan Hann mentioned that the people around Melo are upset that Phil wants Melo to take less, I'm pretty sure Bosh Agents feel the same way.

Find away to have Melo, Bosh and Pau.

My crazy plan:

I know a lot of ppl won't like this but i think the Knicks need to target a young star potential player thats not happy with where he is. The only per on thats popping in my mind is Cousins. I know he is a head case but the dude has serious talents and with a nice core around him in a good system he can become a star player here in NY.

Another guy i like that no one else will like is Josh Smith. I know him playing SF in Detroit is a waste of his talent. He needs to stop shooting threes and work on his free throws. Other than that he is a very good player esp at 13 mil a year. Josh plays both sides of the ball is a good rebounder and scorer (as long as its inside the arc), he is a good defender and good shot blocker. I know he is a head case.

Heres my plan if Melo leaves:

SnT Melo + JR for Butler, Boozer, Mirotic, Dunleavy and 2 future picks ( Sacto pick and 2016 pick).

I would offer Sacto their pick back with Shump (or Butler or Mirotic), Bargs and Amare for Rudy, Landry, Thompson and Cousins. I would in turn trade Boozer and a lottery protected pick in 2016 for Josh Smith

The lineup would be:

Calderon
Butler/Shump (whichever was traded)
Rudy
J. Smith
Cousins

Bench:
THJR, Early, Larkin, Ellington, Thompson, Landry, Mirotic, Dunleavy, Prigs, Cole, Tyler, Odom

I think Sacto would make the trade cause they will get their pick back, they will get rid of all large long term contract and have a chance to start over. Detroit makes the trade just for the cap relief and getting out form under the horrid contract they gave Smith, plus they will gain a pick ( lottery protected) out of this deal.

Maybe LeBron is just posturing to get Bosh, Wade, and Haslem to take bigger cuts. After they sign for less, LeBron can then take a figure that will allow Riley to sign Lowry. Then they can use the MLE and BAE.

Riley has something up his sleeve.

SheSaidSpikeWho

@BiggieTKB At this moment, lebron won't even schedule meetings with other teams. He wants to stay in Miami but wants to see what Bosh and Wade will take and if Riley will be able to put others around them.

I think lebron should stay right in miami...bouncing to another team would be ridiculous.

@Knicks_Fanatic True, but on the downside, they'd have to live in a toaster oven. Its why I never buy the "I only care about winning" nonsense and appreciated Melo saying there were other considerations. Phoenix, Philly, and a few other mid-market teams would be GREAT places to go and help build because they have young talent and tons of cap space for the future so that true stars can both get paid and be surrounded by other up and coming studs.

If you hear that he ssigned a new deal with nike after he goes to chi, then you were right.

Interesting. But I just don't see Lebron seriously considering offers. But you never know.

Woj, is the best and most reliable in the business, but how or why would the suns make a run at Lebron, when he's working on a new deal with the heat, and Lebron won't even set up any meetings. Sounds like Lebron is staying in Miami.

This is not happening but if other teams perusing James then why not persue Bosh?,Phil get on it!

Bosh is said to be looking for a 5 year deal at $17-18 million per year. That seems like a fair value.

@JayfromtheFix sorry! I like your creativity but Neither fits our NEW system!

Why not just package Amare, Dalembert, Shump  and Antetokounmpo for Kevin Love.

Then sign Gasol.

Starters: Calderon, JR, Melo, Love, Gasol

Bench: Prigs, Larkin, THJR, Early, Odom, Tyler, Cole

Obviously as I said, they would have to work a sign and trade to get the second star. Less head shaking and more diligent reading, please.

If Phil has a deal lined up to dump Stat then I will go after Bosh. The best way to recruit him is selling him the idea if him playing the post. He could play his way and not just be a shooter. Bosh will love that imo. He sacrificed his style of play for the betterment of the team but its no secret Bosh wants to play in the post......Ooh and he will play with Melo and maybe Pau. That's not farfetched at all.

@chudogz. .. he is better but Lebron is going to curtail his devpmt with his ball dominance..

@josedolan. That team would be great on offense, but get eaten up on D... Calderon, Melo, Love and Gasol aren't the best defenders

Phil is very high on Cole Aldrich and he is on the roster. Believe it or not, on a 36 minute basis Aldrich had a projected 14.1 rebounds.

@lobcity.. Bosh is def overrated and soft.. Miami has no big 3 anymore.. it is a hobbling broken down Wade, and a fast declining Spot up shooter soft PF in bosh.. Def no need of Bosh on the Knicks

@BiggieTKB  doubt he goes to dallas. he cant play the three and they not gonna bench dirk or chandler

@BiggieTKB

Back in 2010 they asked Bosh if he would play for the Knicks. He said he was a Texan and wanted to be able to drive his pickup truck to the games. He felt MSG would be a problem in that regard. It was a funny interview on Sirius/XM radio.

Bosh did buy a $3 million penthouse in Dallas last year.

chudogz1
chudogz1

@Solar_Lion. Exactly... Horse racing blinders... They won't say who they would sign if Melo left... Aldridge is gonna resign, and Rondo would not come if Melo were to leave... Love is similar to Melo, good on O, not the best on D... I'll take Melo any day of the week between the 2... If Melo stays, us and Phil are off to a great start IMO

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

I truly doubt that either Melo or LeBron will even give Phoenix a second thought. My post was just to show it was possible and a good PR move for the Suns.

It's just like Phil going hard at Pau to sign for $3.2 million. That's not going to happen either, but half of TKB believes it. Propaganda works.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@theking @BiggieTKB

It could work. Chandler only played 28 minutes for Dallas when he was there. Dirk played 32 minutes last year. Not everybody runs their players into the ground like Woody. That leaves plenty of time for a another big man.

I doubt it happens, as Cuban will probably add Deng or Ariza at the 3 and then go after Lowry. Lowry, Ellis, Deng, Dirk, and Chandler is his plan.
