Knicks fan organizing protest outside MSG

Knicks fans will gather outside Madison Square Garden to protest James Dolan on March 19.

“We understand Dolan will not sell. We understand change may not come of this. We just want our voices heard,” Anthony Samaroo said in an email to The Knicks Blog.

Samaroo cited Dolan’s “failure to allow knowledgeable basketball people the autonomy/power to make basketball related decisions” and that, “Steve Mills has yet to speak to the media or fans about the state of the team since he came back,” as the main reasons for the protest.

He told The Knicks Blog that there was a person who spearheaded the protest who does not want to be identified because they had already received death threats.

“We want to remind Dolan and the NBA that our voices matter. We buy the tickets, the jerseys, the NBA League Pass subscriptions. We are frustrated. We are tired. We deserve better,” Samaroo said.

The group is planning a “peaceful and respectful demonstration,” the group said on their Facebook page, KF4L Rally Page.

It was really interesting speaking with Anthony. He’s clearly a passionate Knicks fan and instead of just complaining on social media, he decided to do something about it.

We all know the realities. A protest outside Madison Square Garden isn’t going to change much. James Dolan isn’t likely to walk away from the team because of this. But still, voicing concerns is important for a franchise. It’s complacency that kills teams and the fact that this is being organized shows the passion that Knicks fans have.

What disturbs me are the threats that Anthony discussed. When you boil it down, we are talking sports. We are talking entertainment. While people can have strong opinions, threats are a different ball game. I respect the organizers of this rally for putting themselves out there and leading a cause that many fans would love to get behind.

We’ve reached out to Madison Square Garden for a comment. They have not responded.

Can someone tell me what the point of this rally is? To show Mr Dolan and MSG execs that fans are upset, hate them and want change? They're probably going to be laughing and pointing fingers out of their office windows at this "protest"  You think they haven't known that for years? Dolan will never sell this team for the foreseeable future. You want to force them out? You want to make a statement? STOP SELLING OUT MSG EVERY SINGLE GAME! STOP BUYING OVERPRICED TICKETS FOR A PITIFUL FRANCHISE! STOP WATCHING EVERY SINGLE GAME WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL BE AND THEY WILL JUST MAKE YOU SICK TO YOUR STOMACH!

All of that is easier said then done of course because as New Yorkers and Knicks fans we are very passionate no matter what the circumstances are and this has been the case since Dolan took over. The ONLY way to send a message that will actually work is to STOP GOING TO GAMES and STOP WATCHING. But if you want a drastic change for this organization then you must make drastic decisions even if that means avoiding something you're passionate about COMPLETELY

This rally is a massive waste of time and will accomplish absolutely nothing

I really hope this attracts THOUSANDS of fans..once people are organized..power can shift. Throughout history many injustices have been overcome simply by the power of organized protests. It doesn't happen overnight but it can happen. Look at the Occupy Movement..when people started organizing themselves to protest the income disparity in the US that hasn't been seen since the 20's and 30's they changed the entire political conversation. Before Occupy the political pundits (most who really dont know isht) where obsessed with Deficit and debt (meaning they were all set to pay for more tax cuts for the rich on the backs of the middle class..but thats a discussion for another board :-D)... after Occupy the #1 theme that permeated even through the Presidential campaign was "Income InEquality..the 1% vs the 99%

Here's the inherent danger though.this is real talk and dismiss at your own peril. A lot of you would never abandon the Knicks for any reason because many of you hold on to the memories of the good ole days..be it Old Knick who witnessed greatness from Clyde, Reed, DeBusschere, and Monroe in person (awesome)..to many of you who became fans in the 90's during the era of Ewing, Starks, and Oak, which I gather is a majority of the posters here. In your heart of hearts you believe that if you hang in there long enough..the good old days will return.

But the Millennial kids..those born after 2000 don't know anything about the Knicks being good..the only thing they know is that for most of their lives the Knicks have sucked. The've never seen the good ole days...just what they hear their parents and uncles talk about and see in old clips on YouTube.  They didn't feel the pain of John Starks 2-18 in game 7. They didn't feel the anger at Charles Smith when all 6'10 of him got blocked FOUR TIMES trying to get a lay up when he was 1 ft from the damn basket (shoulda dunked that), they've never felt the thrill of the Game 5 shot by Allan Houston in Miami, or the 4 point play by Grand Ma-ma against the Pacers. They never saw the smoothness of Clyde, or saw the grit of the Captain in person or watched the incredible ball movement of the Championship Knicks in 1970 and 73 (and 72 but the Bullets were just that good). The have no Garden Moments or Memories.

Those fans are the ones the Nets are going after (and disaffected Knick fans who hate what Dolan has done...there are more of us than you think) and if the financials and demographic info is correct..those are the fans that the Nets are winning over in droves. You can dismiss it if you want..but that would be willful ignorance. With Dolan in charge...you increase the chances of him making terrible decisions ..which further alienates the fans..and with Brooklyn around as an alternative should the Nets fortunes continue to rise while the Knick fortunes falter..those Millennials will gravitate towards Brooklyn. That's just human nature.

I really do hope die-hard Knick fans get justice because James Dolan TRULY can give 2 ishts about Knick fans and you deserve better. Maybe this will lead to fans boycotting coming to games..and THAT would get Dolan's attention.

Folks trying to convince me Stern is a Knicks fan. How in the He(( can you call yourself a Knicks fan when you have the power to properly hold accountable and sanction the coke-head, sexual scandal ridden owner of your supposed favorite team and all you do is give him a tap on the wrist--not even a SLAP!

All Stern did was make him get rid of Zeke and hire Walsh. Whooppeee! That really showed little jimmy!

For this rally to be effective they need high profile fans like Spike Lee, Steve Sharipa, John Leguizamo, Carl Banks ect. to voice their displeasure but what are the chances of that. All of them are in Dolans' hip pocket.

WHAT DO WE WANT?  A CHAMPIONSHIP!

WHEN DO WE WANT IT?  BEFORE OUR GRANDCHILDREN'S GRANDCHILDREN DIE!

If anyone really wants to make a difference, they should cancel their cablevision subscriptions. Say goodbye to Optimum Phone and Internet. If Cabelvision begins to loose money, they will have to change. Verizon Fios ( or anyone else) for Knick Fans!!!!! There is no need to stop watching a team you love, just do it with another cable subscriber!

Wonder if Woody Allen is going to attend the rally?

If anyone is going to this, please be chill.  Also, take photos and videos and post them on Twitter, Youtube, Vines, etc.  It needs to get out there as much as possible.  It is true that a protest won't change things but there is a real opportunity here to embarrass Dolan and cause him to hopefully look in the mirror.  Dolan has the cash and the willingness to spend money.  All we are asking is that he stay out of the way and let the basketball people do their jobs.  Also, the fact that he doesn't let people speak to the media, does not allow any criticism from within, Mills doesn't speak to the media, etc.  Its a real insult to the fans.

If anyone has contacts with the local media, they need to be there too.  But post stuff to twitter and youtube and Facebook as much as possible.

BOYCOTT CONCESSIONS UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON.
We could never successfully stage an attendance rally because there are too many season tickets already sold. It would be a lot to ask someone who purchased a ticket with their hard earned money not to attend the game. HOWEVER, WE CAN HIT DOLAN IN HIS WALLET BY REFUSING TO PURCHASE HIS OVER PRICED FOOD, BEVERAGE AND MERCHANDISE. We can do this!!! We need to do this!!!
Hopefully this will wake him up and make him see WE ARE SERIOUS!!!!

I say we bring hoes and pitchforks and chase jimmy right through the midtown tunnel and never let him return. :)  Old school style.

In an ongoing 21-40 season, this has been the biggest story related to the Knicks.

Aside from the injuries (which were constantly used as an excuse), the biggest move made by this organization is releasing MWP and Beno (two players who weren't getting any minutes), giving JR's brother a spot on the team, then releasing him and signing (bringing up) Tyler.

In on of the most valuable franchises, this has what has come from this abysmal season. Action was required given that the "front office" refused to take any. It's an absolute disgrace.

Now we hear the current "coach" talking about "he's the man for the job." Is this guy serious? Has he seen the Knicks play basketball this season?

Dear Positive Ponzi's....... The last positive thing that happened at the garden, was a drug test....... I applaud u for trying to stay positive, but there comes a point when u have to face reality... It was documented recently what our record has been since Guitar Shimmy was handed the keys, and if u didn't get to read it, I can assure u this...... THE RECORD WASNT GOOD

Back in the 1980's they filmed all the WWF TV shows at the Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY One night a fan doused Rowdy Roddy Piper with a full beer when he was doing Piper's Pit. Everyone was waiting to see how the rowdy one would respond. His answer is pertinent to Knick protesters.

He very calmly told the man, "I don't care. You know why I don't care? Because I'm rich and you're not. Now get off my stage."

@rgm891  It isn't far-fetched lol. I'm sure he has gone for 30 and 30 against us before. No idea on the assists though.

Looked it up. He had 30, 30, and 5. Lol. It can happen.

@Blaze NYK  You couldn't be more right. If there are youtube/vines floating around about the rally that catch fire, like a PG version of the Angry Knicks Fan, it could begin to catch the right eyes and maybe start the conversation between Silver and Dolan. Who knows, but some action is better than none.

knickgirl35
knickgirl35

@Netsek  You are right. That's how the Garden makes a large chunk of it's money.

tommy2b

@Netsek  75% of the ticket buyers are tourists and corporate buyers who don't really care about the team.  I doubt this would make a dent.  Anyway I started my protest of everything Knick in December after the Raptors beat the sh!t out of us.

therealprof

@firebaldy  Maybe the next rally can be at the NBA main office to investigate the Chris Smith signing to a guaranteed contract when no other GM in the D-League even wants him. That would certainly get Silver's attention.

@SheSaidSpikeWho  LMAOO wow.  I went for an unrealistic stat and he has done it.  I mean anything can happen now.  More rebounds than the whole Knicks team?

Netsek

@firebaldy @Netsek  Absolutely! Isn't it worth skipping a beer, hotdog, and tee shirt to get Dolan's attention? I think so.

Netsek
Netsek

@tommy2b @Netsek

if your percentages are right, and I'm not sure they are, at least we will be making some dent. If you have a better realistic way of hitting Dolan in the wallet count me in

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@tommy2b @Netsek  I think that's exaggerated.  Corporate buyers still want a good product.  Ticket sales and season subscription packages got hot starting in 2010 with STAT and went through the roof because of Melo, Linsanity and last year's team.  So all the season tickets for this year were all ready sold out over the summer when we were coming off our most successful season in over a decade.  Guarantee you a lot of those people are thinking twice about renewing for next year, especially with prices being twice or three times what they were not even 4 years ago.

A boycott and rally will only further make The Knicks look bad.  If ESPN picks it up, Dolan will definitely be embarrassed.  Why take your important client to a Knicks game when you can take them to Barclays, which is a nicer, newer arena and has a (slightly) better product?

@ thatsagoodpoint. It was something like 236 wins and 479 loses.... It was a few days ago, and with 3 kids, that's like weeks, but I do remember the record was unacceptable for the payroll we've had
