Knicks interested in Lou Amundson?

Looking to find a potential fill-in for the injured Tyson Chandler, the Knicks may look to the free-agent market. One possible name floated around is Lou Amundson, according to Ian Begley of ESPN New York.

According to Begley, the Knicks have reached out to a number of big men already, though Amundson is the one name he mentioned. Amundson was waived last month by the Clippers.

Last season, Amundson averaged 1.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 39 games with New Orleans. In 60 games with Indiana in 2011, he averaged 3.6 points and 3.7 points.

No, he isn’t a contributor on the offensive end and his rebounding total doesn’t grab anybody’s attention. But he is a big body the Knicks can throw in the middle of their defense and is a veteran, which is more than you can say about another in-house option, Cole Aldrich.

The Knicks will try to use Andrea Bargnani at center in the meantime. Coach Mike Woodson would not comment about the team’s interest in another free agent, Jason Collins.
