Knicks’ Lowry deal appears dead in the water

Adam Zagoria, Team Reporter

The Knicks chances of landing point guard Kyle Lowry in a deal with the Toronto Raptors seem dead in the water.

Frank Isola of the Daily News reported that Knicks owner Jim Dolan nixed the deal after initially wanting to make it happen.

“Dolan didn’t want to get fleeced again by [Raptors GM] Masai [Ujiri],” one Knicks source told Isola. “They had a deal ready.”

“There are two problems,” the source added. “Dolan didn’t like that someone from his group leaked it to the media, and the other problem is the Knicks seem to have too many (people) involved with making decisions.”

Multiple reports indicated the Knicks were talking about shipping Raymond Felton, Metta World Peace as well as Iman Shumpert, Tim Hardaway Jr. or the Knicks’ 2018 first-round pick to Toronto in exchange for Lowry. The Raptors, who have already dealt Rudy Gay to Sacramento, seem intent on tanking in an effort to score in the loaded 2014 NBA Draft, hoping they can bring Andrew Wiggins back home North of the border.

Asked if the Knicks were still in the mix for Lowry as of Friday morning, a league source told SNY.tv, “I can’t say they are.”

Asked if the Knicks simply didn’t have enough to offer compared with Brooklyn or other teams interested in Lowry, the source said, “Not enough to value the asset. I don’t blame Toronto.”

@islesfan77.    I was trying to work a trade-off with St. Patrick (who's is also the patron saint of engineers) so we'd get a win tonight.  But, with Neuvirth in net I'm reneging.  I'm having pint right now.  Slainte mhaith!!

Why are we getting force fed how good JB has been this year? He has been a poor possession player lately. I know JT and KO like him and that carries some weight but when you are making $3.1 million this year and increases up to $4 million by the 2017-2018 season expectations are little more than your vision on the ice. As far as the stat BS take your rose colored JB glasses off and watch the game.

@Diego5150 its funny how JB is so good in all areas when it comes to stats that people come up with poor possession / confidence / issues in his head. LOL

@redly @Diego5150 Obviously you are a big fan of JB, I do not thing he is worth what he is being paid. But I do hope he gets better and helps us going forward. He is a young guy and a positive presence in the locker room. I don't dislike the guy, I would just like to see him play a stronger game.

The more they push Bailey the more I notice his flaws. His numbers are what they are because 3 guys are defending JT when he gets the puck. Hopefully if he gets stronger in the off season.

@Tim Ellwood funny thing is JT went from 10th in league scoring with a -6 to 1st in team scoring with a +6 when Bailey joined his line

More like the vision by you from looking at the stats sheet.

A lot of you guys need to check your math.  JT has been better with Bailey then he was with Okposo.  Yes Bailey could be stronger on the puck but he has put up decent numbers, is a great passer and plays a full 200 feet. Bailey's produced this year and was off to a real strong start before he broke his hand and then really found himself once placed on the first line where he plays a left wing lock role that covers for a lot of JT's turnovers.  Scares me with some of the impressions that you guys get sometimes.  i wonder if we are watching the same game.

Please, just stop with Bailey already. He is a decent player in all aspects...but does not do anything particularly well. he is putting up his best numbers playing on the top line, duh! as far as vision...he may have it, but he takes waaay to long to act on it. needs to be much quicker with his puck movement, either that, or get those chains back out and start getting stronger because right now, almost anyone can easily strip him off the puck.In the past, I remember him having a very good shot, hard, and on target....what happened to it?

slapshot18_rs

@erika hes been using it quite well actually, especially as of late.  didn't he just have a point blank slap shot like two games ago?....

@erika once again, JT went from 10th in league scoring with a -6 to 1st in team scoring with a +6 when Bailey joined his line

Moulson will never be 30 goal guy again, ever. Move Bailey off top line and he'll Houdini.Take Lee any day over a perimeter player

@cournoyer Josh was scoring at the same pace before he was put on JTs line

Jason Zimmermann

He's been playing better, fine, but why is there such a solid effort to insulate this guy? Just leave it be. If you have to stick up for a guy too much, something aint right.

puckdad99
puckdad99

I can't think of one team in the NHL that would have him on Line 1.

Jason Zimmermann
Jason Zimmermann

@puckdad99 It's a situation where Tavares can make a first liner out of anyone. Even Rob Browne was a top liner for Pittsburgh in the early 90's. Mario turned him into a 40 goal guy.

Jason Zimmermann
Jason Zimmermann

@puckdad99 @Jason Zimmermann Bailey's played better, but no, he's not first line material. We're being force fed because he was the unofficial beginning of the rebuild. The 2008 draft hasn't been great outside of Stamkos, Doughty, Pietrangelo, and Erik Karlsson. Why can't we just let this whole idea that Bailey "is a better player than we realize" go? He gets apologized for way too often for my liking. I still think he can be traded and not many feelings will be hurt.

Another great day for Bailey supprters I love this!!! Never ever did I bash bails and he came through. And he's going to get better yet. Congrats josh. And you think this josh is good wait till ho-sang gets here. Yipee!!!!!

nymarc

Bailey is a third line wing, nothing more. We over paid for him and he will never be any good. Playing with Tavares he should easily be on pace for 30 goals and 65 points if he had vision or top six skills. Hopefully some other team feels like he is better then the rest of us know he is and trades a draft choice for him.

redly
redly

@nymarc well he would have 30 goals & over 65 points if he played with JT from the start of the season & never missed games this year with a broken hand

kevinpt
kevinpt

@slapshot18_rs @nymarc I think the whole first line player and third line player is overrated anyway. I'd rather make up lines that work chemistry-wise instead of talent-wise. Bailey isn't necessarily a first-line type player in my opinion, but he fits in well with Okposo and JT. And I still just love the chemistry of the kid line.

redly

@nymarc @kevinpt funny thing is JT went from 10th in league scoring with a -6 to 1st in team scoring with a +6 when Bailey joined his line

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@nymarc if everyone is going to give lee the benefit of the doubt that if he played a full season he would have significantly better #s then the same argument could be made for bailey who has not played up there all year. you're in denial if you think bailey hasnt helped that first line this year.  third line wing at best, what a joke.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@kevinpt i agree, but i assume when someone is calling him a "third line player at best," that's an attempt to insult his playing ability.  i agree he is not the ideal player for the first line, but he deserves recognition for succeeding there when that spot was a revolving door the first 20 games (even though, you know, anyone could play there). hes better than more than half of the people on this blog would give him credit for.

kevinpt
kevinpt

@slapshot18_rs @kevinpt Agreed 100%. I'm one of the few that actually thinks adding Bailey to the first line elevated JT's game because JT wasn't exactly playing that great at the beginning of the year, and now he's an MVP favorite.

nymarc
nymarc

@kevinpt Elevated JT's game? lol you must be Josh Bailey

kevinpt
kevinpt

@nymarc I'm glad you're not the GM because trading

1. our third leading scorer in pts per game

2. a guy JT and Okposo enjoy playing with and fits in well with the team and is well liked in the locker room

3. one of the team's better defensive forwards on a team which is below average defensively

for a draft pick, during a time where the team is developing together and is actually becoming good, sounds like a terrible idea in my opinion.

Is it April 1st? Bailey? Vision? Hahahaha

He should be on the third line. Lee should be with JT and Okposo.

kevinpt
kevinpt

@chrisredux Chris, we get that you hate Bailey. But can you explain yourself and back it up with some facts as to why? I understand that from where he was drafted and the expectations around him, he's been a disappointment, but it's not really his fault he was picked so high and rushed to the NHL. The guy is currently third on the team in points per game. THIRD. He's also above average defensively and is a +10. Can you really say he's a terrible player that you don't want playing on this team?

Isleguy27
Isleguy27

@kevinpt @chrisredux No he cannot...chrisredux does not have a clue in my opinion. For the most part, doesn't say anything positive.

chrisredux
chrisredux

@Isleguy27 @kevinpt @chrisredux i say positive when i see positive..and i see no positives in bailey at all....His goals are meaningless, hes not clutch, hes hesitates way to much when shooting and gives the puck up much to many times. as for his defensive play, he ok hes not the second coming of trottier.....I really dont know what you guys are watching, i really dont. The guy is a fair hockey at best and belongs nowhere near the 1st line..

Oh and i love you to islesguy27

Dear St. Patrick:  if you make the Islanders crush the Black Hawks on your day, I promise not to drink any Guinness.  Hopefully, a stinging beating from us will anger the Hawks and they'll beat the Rags on Wednesday.  Slainte to all Islander fans!
