Knicks made bid for Love

The Knicks tried to get in on Kevin Love.

With the Minnesota Timberwolves looking to deal their disgruntled star the Knicks and president Phil Jackson offered Tim Hardaway Jr., Iman Shumpert and Amar’e Stoudemire (for contract matching purposes) in exchange for Love (Herring, July 25th).

It was a longshot chance to begin with, and the Timberwolves shot it down.  Minnesota has had extensive talks with Golden State, Chicago and Cleveland. The Cavaliers are reportedly putting No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins on the table in exchange for Love.  The Cavaliers signed Wiggins on Thursday and can’t trade him for 30 days.

Glad to see to reports that no one on the Knicks made that ridiculous offer to the T-Wolves.

So...when Kobe comes back dropping 26 ppg....on 47℅ shooting...will he be washed up then?

I ask this knowing it would probably never happen, but I'll throw it out there....

Bargs expiring deal Jason smith expiring deal(dec 15th he can be moved), Ellington expiring, Shumpert and Larkin for Kobe Bryant

Amare expiring and Tim Hardaway JR for Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith

Pg-Jennings, Calderon, Prig

Sg-Kobe, JR Smith

SF-Melo, Early

PF-Josh Smith

C-Dalembert-Aldrich

They free up a few roster spots, maybe they bring back MWP and K-Mart for depth...

It's funny how THJR was on the all NBA rookie first team last year, yet an offer with him is laughed at, and Shump was an all rookie performer as well.

OT- SAS with an apology and after creating a firestorm today

My series of tweets a short time ago is not an adequate way to capture my thoughts so I am using a single tweet via Twitlonger to more appropriately and effectively clarify my remarks from earlier today about the Ray Rice situation. I completely recognize the sensitivity of the issues and the confusion and disgust that my comments caused. First off, as I said earlier and I want to reiterate strongly, it is never OK to put your hands on a women. Ever. I understand why that important point was lost in my other comments, which did not come out as I intended. I want to state very clearly. I do NOT believe a woman provokes the horrible domestic abuses that are sadly such a major problem in our society. I wasn’t trying to say that or even imply it when I was discussing my own personal upbringing and the important role the women in my family have played in my life. I understand why my comments could be taken another way. I should have done a better job articulating my thoughts and I sincerely apologize.

If we are able to trade Amar'e, Shumpert, and Hardaway for Love and Martin, I would then try and package Bargnani and JR for Kobe.

PG: Calderon/Larkin

SG: Bryant/Martin

SF: Anthony/Early

PF: Love/Smith

C: Dalembert/Aldrich

I think that team is easily a contender in the East. Not sure if either of those deals are realistic right now. But things could change before the trade deadline. Btw if we make those deals we could theoretically make a run at Durant in 2016.

Well love demanding trade to Cleveland means a few things, one it means Cleveland can get him without giving up Wiggins, or it means flip can trade him somewhere else to a team willing to trade for him with assurances he signs long term. You wonder, would Phil risk that, think about it, if Love walks anyway, the Knicks would have more space in 2015 if Phil can't convince him to stay, is it worth to rid Shump and THJR, for one year of Love

Seth Nadler
Seth Nadler

Again do I think Love gets traded to the Knicks no, but the media making fun of the offer, calling it a joke and ridiculous is clear hate towards the Knicks. It really bothers me that the Knicks get made fun of like that. I can't wait for Phil to pull something incredible off, this team wins a title a shuts everyone up and makes them look like the clowns they are.

@knicks fanatic... IMO KLove is not a good fit money wise and assets wisee. Love puts up good stats but not a winner so far. So to give young assets and then pay him a huge contract is not the right thing to do... I pass on the Love bug!!!

@MeloStat301 Agreed. I'll take Kobe at his age, cap hit and post injury status before any  two in the league. I know what signing up for in a true competitor who can achieve a lot with Carmelo by his side.

@MeloStat301 Kobe will become one of the best late-career players, he's going to get better in time and defy the age-spectrum decline.

I think with Kobe, it's more a question of whether or not he can stay on the court and play enough minutes to average 26 ppg.

Father Time has his eye on Kobe.

@knickfan2 I was miffed by that proposal. I didn't see Phil making such a knee-jerk move especially with a young player in TH2 who they covet attached.

@jsnooka Nobody knows if there actually were discussions or offers.

@Knicks_Fanatic Now will this Humble SAS or make him angrier?  I suspect angrier.

@Seth Nadler  What can you do?  The Knicks have become a punch line for the national media. The only way it changes is by winning something of consequence.  That will shut everybody up.

I don't get the love affair these so-called "experts" have with a team that got bounced in five games in the first round of the playoffs last season and has a "superstar" who is less physically reliable than Amar'e, but it is what it is.

@MeloStat301 it would show they are doing their due-diligence which is what we ask/

if this happened or we agree with the proposal is another discussion

@Tony Fonseca no one wins until they actually have a team around them to win. putting it on one guy and blaming him for the fortunes of a franchise in disarray is shortsighted at best.

No you don't know what you're signing up for. No doubt Kobe has more heart than anyone in the league. He hasn't been able to stay on the court though so you really have no idea what you'll get from him. I'm saying this about my favorite player in the league.

@BiggieTKB @rb3b3  Thanks again Biggie, in all seriousness, phil holds his cards very close to his chest so I cant see how any reporters can tell us what trades the knicks are trying to do.

BronsonSNY
BronsonSNY

@solar_lion @Seth Nadler I wouldn't be too concerned in regards of defense. What exposed Tim was the guards over-extending past the arc and poor help defense----not to mention he was a first year player. With better coaching and a pro-active center in Dalembert and J.Smith, to name a few, the team as a whole should improve in that area.

rb3b3
rb3b3

@BiggieTKB  Thanks Biggie, I just posted a rumor with greg Monroe and the knicks only because I heard a lot of talk about it but I never read any articles about it actually being discussed.

You know a helluva lot more then I do but thank for clearing that up for me my brother

@Mel Brown @Seth Nadler At least Phil is looking to go big. Love going to the Cavs has to make Phil wonder. Lets just go for it now! Get one solid player now. And add the other one next summer.  We are 2 good players away from contending. 2 trades away!!!

Tony Fonseca
Tony Fonseca

@Billy Suede... you are correct that it takes more than a team of one to win, however K Love have had a supporting cast good enough to make the playoffs. At the end of the day, it is what is.. His records is combination of luck, circumstances, and his own doing... No excuses...

@SheSaidSpikeWho I agree with what you say but my heart tells me that having a superstar in decline can be a miserable experience for a team.  When an elite player can't do what they once did and cannot face the reality they can get mighty cranky.

Remember T Mac bitching all the time when the Knicks got him?  He always demanding minutes or the ball, he was not a happy guy.

Some players like Vince Carter, Horry, even Stat accept their limitations and change their games but others have that rocky transitional period.  Kobe could be in for one of those and I'm not sure you'd want to be around him when he does.

Just food for thought. If the Lakers wanted to do a simple deal salary for salary I'd be happy to gamble on the experiment but it could be a nasty one

BronsonSNY
BronsonSNY

@SheSaidSpikeWho Yes, you do know what you're signing up for..a deadly offensive shooter who can manipulate any defender anywhere on the court at anytime. You don't forget how to score, how to defend, how to win, especially when you're one of the greatest two guards in NBA history who is only 36 going on 37. And this stuff he can't stay on the court is ridiculous. He had one major injury two years ago. His work ethic alone would make that injury a mere after thought. Everyone is injury prone no matter the age or makeup. What separates Kobe from the rest is...Kobe. He will still find a way even if his injury persists. And his lowest is still tops in this league. So, yes, you do know what you're signing up for. That's not even a question.

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

There was a time when that was true. The last two seasons have shown otherwise though. Kobe has the skills and footwork to average big points but he hasn't been able to stay on the court.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@MeloStat301

We will see about. If you look at numbers from MJ and Pippen at 37-38, they were still quite good. I wouldn't bet against Kobe coming back strong, but I wouldn't want to pay him $24 million per season to find out either.

greekfreak

@Mel Brown. Monroe would be a great pick up! I'm still dreaming of KD in 2016, so we would need to keep $ available, unless he signs extension next off season.., Aldridge would be great also, but I highly doubt he leaves Portland. Stranger things have happened tho
