July 7: Phil Jackson officially announced Kurt Rambis will join the team as associate head coach.
July 3: Rambis has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Knicks (Begley, July 3).
Rambis is the first assistant coach to join head coach Derek Fisher’s staff.
The Knicks have offered Kurt Rambis a four-year contract worth about $4.8 million to be Derek Fisher’s top assistant (NY Post, July 3).
He is currently an assistant coach for the Lakers, is in the mix for their head coaching job and was on Phil Jackson’s staff for both of his stints in Los Angeles.
Rambis, obviously, knows the triangle offense quite well.
The offer is close to the largest assistant’s contract in NBA history: four years and $6.4 million to Tyronn Lue from Cleveland.
