Other than the 13 rebounds Stephenson grabbed against the Knicks, there wasn’t much that was spectacular about his game. He had a couple of highlight finishes at the basket, but he didn’t inexplicably hit four 3-pointers or get hot to score 20 or more points. He had a modest 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the field, but he managed to take advantage of the defensive lapses to get easy buckets around the basket — something Indiana really needs on the road.
Tommy DeeTo me, Stephenson’s rebounds seemed to come from effort and the majority came on the defensive end. His rebounding numbers have doubled this postseason and that’s the sign of being handed an assignment and not only accepting it, but owning it. Stephenson owned the Knicks on the defensive glass game 1 and they, particularly Shumpert, Smith and Chandler have to be more active on the offensive glass if the Knicks are going to come out with a win tonight.
