The Knicks are preparing to make an offer to Elton Brand, according to Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York.
Brand wants to play with a winning team and is from New York.
Update – 11:32 a.m.: Brand is hearing offers from multiple teams and there is “nothing imminent” between him and the Knicks, according to Howard Beck of the New York Times.
Tommy DeeSign me up. We were just discussing the Knicks need for a tough big who can rebound and knock down jumpers from 15-18. Brand didn’t have a great year last year but at 34 I think he still can an effective 20-25 MPG player. He’s perfectly suited for the Knicks style and can play some center if the Knicks go with a smaller line up.
If the idea is to replace Novak and Camby with Bargnani and Elton Brand then the Knicks would have to be looked at as winners in that kind of swap.
Novak and Camby were useless and I can’t imagine it was going to get any better. With Bargnani, there is a hope that at 27 years old he can bounce back in a new environment and Brand is just more useful than Camby.
Brand is a solid guy off the bench and a good veteran leader on this team. He can play the role that Wallace and Martin did last year and be effective.
With Stoudemire, Chandler, Bargnani, Melo and now possibly Brand as your front line players, the Knicks would probably let Martin and maybe even Copeland walk away as free agents.
Nothing is set in stone yet with how the roster is shaping up since we are early in the process so things can change at any moment.
