Gorgui Dieng, the 6-foot-11, 230-pound starting center for Louisville’s championship team, will work out with both of New York’s NBA teams prior to the draft on June 27. Jared Zwerling reported that Dieng’s agent, Makhtar N’Diaye, confirmed the news with ESPN New York.
Dieng was in the middle of one of college basketball’s most aggressive and frustrating defenses as a junior last year. The Cardinals held opponents to just 58.8 points per game. Dieng averaged 9.8 points and 9.4 rebounds during the season. He also blocked 2.5 shots per game, good for second best in the conference, and recorded 10 double-doubles. Draft Express slots Dieng as a mid to late first round pick. The Nets and Knicks have the 22nd and 24th picks, respectively.
Both teams also plan to work out Jeff Withey, the former starting center at Kansas with a similar defensive skill set. Withey is projected as a late first round pick. Both prospects are 23-years-old.
