Knicks trying to land Rondo?

The Knicks have reached out to the Celtics about trading for Rajon Rondo (Stein).

Boston is likely looking for a first-round pick and a salary dump of one of their older players (Begley). The Knicks might have to offer Iman Shumpert or Tim Hardaway Jr. if they want to land Rondo, though.

This is great news because of the immediate impact that a player of Rondo’s skill brings. If the Knicks were to trade a boatload of players — including a draft pick that hasn’t even been born yet — for Rondo, they’d instantly be able to make a playoff run this year. More importantly, they would be able to build around an elite scorer and one of the best distributors in the NBA.

What does it actually take to bring Rondo to New York? If I’m Steve Mills, I essentially put everything on the table and allow Danny Ainge to take his pick of anyone except Carmelo Anthony. If he wants Tyson Chandler, he gets him. If he wants Iman Shumpert, Tim Hardaway Jr. and a first round pick, done deal.

The Knicks have given up first rounders for guys like Andrea Bargnani. I wouldn’t let a pick stand in the way of bringing a player that not only makes the point guard position better, but would help get the most out of Anthony.

And don’t sell this short: Rondo would make Anthony instantly better. As I discussed around the rumors of Jeff Teague, Rondo can break down defenses and get to the rim on his own. That ability would allow him to dish to Anthony, who would no longer be double teamed on catches.

If Mills can pull this off before the deadline I’d be shocked, but let’s keep our fingers crossed.

And what will the Knicks give that the Celtics want? They are in no position to acquire Rondo.

The Knick front office is not competent.   I will be a major upset if they do something right.

He's going to the Rockets... Osik, J. Lin & possibly an unprotected 1st round pick...

Back to the Knicks. They are working on a couple of deals for a point guard. The main one is Rondo. Fall back Lowery and Teague.

Recipe for disaster here. I'd rather trade Chandler for some picks - draft is gonna be a good one. We're all in for 2015.

Seth nadler, Knicks is not lying. I talked to ahamid and he said what's holding up the trade is the Knicks not willing to give up hardaway there offering bargs shump a 2018 unprotected first for rondo and bass but Anige wants hardaway as well so sorry knicksEdit (in 5 minutes)

Utter nonsense. Knicks can't get Rondo - and that's a good thing. He is not the same player.

To clarify earlier tweet, sources say #Pelicans open to both calling up Pierre Jackson, as well as including him in potential trade. #nba

I read a lot of people talking about this Pierre Jackson kid. I don't know anything about him but apparently he can be had.

Classic case of trying to get the guy that ripped you apart but does nothing against other teams. Boy did Thornton tear them up earlier in the year.

Can Dolan re-hire Grunwald for the rest of the week?

No confidence Mills has a clue.

Has anyone here seen Rondo play since his return from injury?

Will he be the same player he was? he was all about speed and lateral motion.  he is not moving laterally too well and may never again.   his outside shooting is not so good either.

I take him but not for a boat load of picks and THjr. I REALLY want to keep Hardaway

I'm getting the feeling all this Rondo and Teague talk is rumors floated by the Knicks front office to try to get Ujiri to lower his price on Lowry.

They would have to probably take Gerald Wallace's contract with Rondo to do it so say for instance.

Felton, Shumpert, Hardaway, Amare and Chandler for Rondo, Humphries and Wallace.

You may have to try to get a team like the Suns involved with sending Chandler to the suns for Okafor's expiring and a 1st to send to Boston.

I wouldn't do it because I would not take Wallace's contract to get rondo.

@OLDKNICK He is probably laughing at all the naïve fans who think the Knicks can get a better point guard soon....

I agree wholeheartedly. Try to flip Chandler to Phoenix for one of their 1st round picks add some extra bodies to sweeten the pot if necessary

Maybe they can..maybe they can't...and he's on his way to being the same player...getting back in real time game shape...his last four games have gotten better 3 double double in points and assits..only a matter of time before he fully back with his ttiming..try again.

@SheSaidSpikeWho Pringles is wetting his pants for a Kevin Lowe. His career would extend by 5 years playing one side of the ball.

@SheSaidSpikeWho

Ainge has never stated that he wants to trade Rondo. If someone wants to grossly overpay, he might consider it. Ainge is stock piling young players and picks to make a run at Kevin Love.

Kevin Love: "“Boston is a great city. I’m sure free agents would love to go there, especially with @BCCoachStevens as a coach."

@SheSaidSpikeWho  THjr, Shump, 1st round pick, right to switch 1st rounders in 2015 and 2017, every 2nd pick we can trade, and we take back bloated contracts.  Only way Ainge does it imo.

@dagawd  Do you even watch Basketball?  Lowry is having an insane year this year.  He is definitely better than Felton.  Come on bro!

@SuperDuper @rico

I think Grunwald was medicore; not great, not horrible but in the middle. Last years team was put together by him and won 54 games, regardless of who was the actual "coach" of the team. He does deserve a huge knock on the Bargnani trade for including a 1st round pick for a guy the Raptors was desperate to get rid of. But he did get the draft pick right with THJR. So he had his highs and lows.

@orlando_knickfan @SheSaidSpikeWho  I posted something a few days ago that basically said that the Lakers are lukewarm on signing Melo and if they did, probably wouldn't give him the max. K. Love is younger anyway.

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@Mel Brown @SheSaidSpikeWho  Sure did. He traded guys on their last legs though. Not Rondo. He knew Pierce and KG had 2 years max left. Rondo could help us dominate for a little longer than that...if he's healthy.

@Blaze NYK @dagawd Check their career numbers - Lowry is not much of an improvement over Felton, even though I agree with you that he is having a good year. Not to mention Lowry is a free agent and he might bolt at the end of the season, which means the Knicks would have given up a lot for nothing....
