Knicks will officially bring D-League team to Westchester, NY

The Knicks have announced that they will own and operate an NBA Development League team in White Plains, New York next season.

“We’re very excited to bring an NBA Development League team to Westchester, a great basketball community that has embraced orange and blue and served as our training home for 25 plus years,” Knicks’ assistant GM Allan Houston said on Monday.

Houston will serve as the team’s general manager.

The team will play 24 home games and tickets will start at $12 (Marcus, March 10).

Weird feeling....with PHIL JACKSON coming here....I don't care either way if Melo stays...in a weird way.  Dolan going behind MELO back pursuing Phil...but you know what....Melo didn't give a guarantee of staying.  If Melo has a problem with Phil, then see you later...only thing that Melo should care about, is that Phil wanted a guarantee Melo was staying...Melo probably didn't want to give a guarantee..

I think a Melo/Phil combo is ideal...Melo would be a big piece going after a chip...but...if Melo wants to leave so be it...Phil will build this thing up w or w/out Melo honestly.

PHIL JACKSON LIKELY TAKING KNICKS JOB:

All indications are that Phil Jackson will accept the New York Knicks' offer to join the club's front office, according to a league source.

"The Knicks have a sense of what's going to happen," the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "And as of right now, it looks like Phil's taking the job.

"There's always the possibility of something falling apart at the last minute, but the Knicks' sense is that he's joining them."

The two sides are still working out all the details, including what Jackson's title will be, how much time he will spend in New York, and when in the next few months he will start his job.

Jackson's answer is expected to become official within the next day or so. The Knicks have not yet scheduled an announcement.

Jackson will not be a mere consultant for the Knicks, as he was recently for the Detroit Pistons. Whatever his title, he will be an integral part of the club's basketball operations. Jackson will definitely not coach the team.

While owner James Dolan will pay Jackson handsomely to make basketball decisions, Dolan is still expected to maintain a voice in terms of decision making, the source said. Bringing Jackson aboard could move the Knicks away from their ties to Creative Artists Agency, the player and coach representation firm that many league insiders, including some Knicks players, believe has an inordinate amount of power within the franchise.

Assistant general manager Allan Houston, coach Mike Woodson, player personnel director Mark Warkentien and superstar Carmelo Anthony are all CAA clients.

One Knicks player recently told ESPN.com that the CAA ties were a problem in the locker room.

"You see how guys from CAA are treated differently," the player said. "How they get away with saying certain things to coaches. How coaches talk to them differently than they talk to the other guys. It's a problem."

If Melo opts out and signs somewhere else in the offseason, the Knicks will own and operate an NBA D-League team at MSG next season!

Now which team is the D-League one?

I live in Scarsdale which is just up the Bronx River Parkway from the County Center. I have been waiting for this to happen ever sine the old USBL's Westchester Wildfire left town in I believe 2004 or 2005. Anyway I am so pumped already for the 2014 - 2015 NBA D League Season herein Westchester County!!!!!!!!

I like this very much as a knicks fan. For some of the die hards who can't afford to go to the Garden, they'll be able to see the teams potential future talent up front and close for cheap. Good move by the Knicks.

@MeloStat301 If this news with the CAA is right, this would be an unbelievable day aside the fact that Phil signs!!!!  What a miracle if this happens.

@Sandro Lol, that in no way shows he doesn't want Phil here, try again, LOL.

He cant jump up and down and speak on it, when MSG hasn't spoken on it...MSG hasn't even confirmed an offer was made, its the dolan gag order my friend.

@Sandro  I don't read the Post because my eyes are still attached to my brain.

I'm gonna assume it's related to reports that said that he wasn't consulted on this move. It doesn't equate, at all, that he's happy, mad, or excited about the situaiton.

This doesn't equate to him not being happy.

Who cares what that rag chooses to run with.

To give credibility to reports by Begley or SAS (who say how important it'd be for the franchise) could be construed as the very same thing: to create speculation and controversy into a potentially very positive scenario for the Knicks.

@thatsagoodpoint @MeloStat301 I hear you...I don't think he would walk either..but for some odd/strange/stupid reason he does....I think Phil can still put a contender together.

With that said...really thinking about it...Phil needed a GAURANTEE of Melo staying..if he takes the job...Phil and company probably have info of Melo staying that we don't know yet..or Phil believes he can get Melo to stay.  Like you said...nobody walks away from Phil Jackson.

@xmenreturn A D-League team plus Carmelo Anthony. Which in the East means you're somehow still in playoff contention for the honor of getting swept by the Heat or Pacers in the 1st Rd. Hey but at least Dolan would get some extra cash from 2 home playoff games!
