Melo, Chandler on Olympic Roster; Anthony Won’t Play in 2014

Adam Zagoria, Team Reporter

Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler are both on the 28-man USA Basketball roster for 2014-16, with Anthony saying it’s “open” that he might play in the 2016 Olympics.

“I’m not playing this summer for sure,” Anthony said of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. “It’s just an opportunity for me, giving me an open plate if I want to come and play with some of the guys that were here a couple years ago.”

Anthony and Chandler won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and Anthony said it’s possible he could play at Rio in 2016.

“It’s open, it’s open,” he said. “I’m still young, though.”

The roster is for the next three summers, so players like Anthony, LeBron James, Derrick Rose and Chris Paul could all choose to focus just on 2016.

The rest of the 28-man roster includes Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, David Lee, Kawhi Leonard, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Kenneth Faried, Paul George, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Gordon Hayward, LaMarcus Aldridge, Bradley Beal, DeMarcus Cousins, Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Klay Thompson, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams.

According to Brian Mahoney of the AP, of the six teams with multiple players picked for the USA roster, five have at least a .600 winning percentage. The other is the Knicks.

As with most knicks seasons with the exception of last year it's never about wins or losses, it's about what's happening off the court from trades, to free agency, to value of the team, to coaches.  Think about  what's going on right now, this season is over, it's not about how many losses we have, it's about whether Melo stays, leaves, or gets traded?  It's not about this season, it's about which free agent wants to come here in 2015.  It's not about this season, because if it was Woody would be gone, but the team isn't about winning now.  Of course, nobody who roots for the knicks has any confidence what this team will do will be good for this team now or in the future

Good for Chandler.....now trade him while his value is high.

@@Brother Blaque I could see the Knicks orchestrating a deal that gets a talented PG in here for Chandler . . . you have to believe they want to send a message to Melo that they want him to stay and Chandler is our best chip NOT named Melo.  Play small, use Bargs at the 5 and spread the floor with a PG that can make things happen.   I 100% believe Chandler will be gone at the deadline NOT Melo.
