“I’m not playing this summer for sure,” Anthony said of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. “It’s just an opportunity for me, giving me an open plate if I want to come and play with some of the guys that were here a couple years ago.”
Anthony and Chandler won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and Anthony said it’s possible he could play at Rio in 2016.
“It’s open, it’s open,” he said. “I’m still young, though.”
The roster is for the next three summers, so players like Anthony, LeBron James, Derrick Rose and Chris Paul could all choose to focus just on 2016.
The rest of the 28-man roster includes Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, David Lee, Kawhi Leonard, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Kenneth Faried, Paul George, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Gordon Hayward, LaMarcus Aldridge, Bradley Beal, DeMarcus Cousins, Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Klay Thompson, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams.
According to Brian Mahoney of the AP, of the six teams with multiple players picked for the USA roster, five have at least a .600 winning percentage. The other is the Knicks.
