Carmelo Anthony

‘Melo says he wants to return, but wants to win

Carmelo Anthony, coming off what he said was the toughest year of his career, said he wants to return to the Knicks, but also wants to win.

“I want to come back. I want to come back. But I also want to win,” he said (Iannazzone, April 17).

He also said that he’s not concerned about money at this point in his career. ‘Melo, who can become a free agent in the offseason, can re-sign with the Knicks for the most amount of money: five-years and $129 million. But he doesn’t want to be here if the team is rebuilding.

I’m not at the point in my career where I want to rebuild,” he said (Begley, April 17). “I’m going to keep searching for the answers (to what went wrong this season).”

Anthony said that missing the playoffs this year is “embarrassing” and that he can’t take the losing.

“I don’t know if I can afford another season of losing,” ‘Melo said. (Isola, April 17)

He walks. Don't think he wants to take less $$ so they can bring in someone else to help. He wants to win NOW.

Knicks need to get rid of Amari's contract period. It's a big problem paying him 20+ million for zero production. If Melo accepts his extension and Amari can come back somewhat productive they can be a playoff team next year and win big 2015 free agency using the hard cap as an advantage.. Let's not forget they have a lottery pick this year in a deep draft class, they have options. Melo should stay in NY.. My wildcard destination for Melo is Houston. Hard to deny the chance to win right away. But way less significant for Melo leaving NY as a failure maybe in his own mind for his favorite team.

If he wants to win maybe he should play some defense and make it happen. Winners don't complain about the rest of their roster. Losers do.

HEY DOLAN: HOW COME PROKY IS WILLING TO GO INTO CAP HELL FOR THE BROOKLYN JERSEY NETS & NOT YOU??? FVCK THESE BILLIONAIRES! MELO SHOULD GET EVERY DIME & THE HELP HE NEEDS!!!

The Knicks can lose without paying a guy $30M per year. Melo gets his points early and then can't make the shot at crunch time. He is a ballhog/ chucker. No body from playground ball on up through college wants to play with a ball hog. The other players run around trying to get open and then with guys open or not...Melo chucks up a shot. There is no excuse for poor defense. Good defense is predicated on effort. No effort, no defense. I say, let Melo walk. The only mistake was not trading him at the deadline to get something/anything back for him. Denver did the right thing suckering him to the Knicks. Too bad the Knicks couldn't find another sucker.

Melo if it is about winning and not the money, how about signing for less so the knicks can go get some more talent to add to the roster and help the team get better.

I'm fine with MelO wanting to go to H-town or Clipper Land

The knicks can get back good value from either team for tkb's favorite MelO

All sign so far pointing to MelO heading to the bulls and rocking number 32 in honor of jordan

The media isn't always rite but sometimes they are but H-town is the best place and Clipper land if MelO really wants to win but if the bulls amnesty Loozer they might be able to Sign him outright Leaving the knicks with nothing in return for MarshMelO

all this talk about trading Chandler but for what? Who will take him for 15m? we only can get more bad contracts for him. Phil is not stupid because Chandler and his expiring contract is more valuable than any team's garbage they want to dump on us. Kendrick Perkins is not better than Chandler so stop mentioning that bum.

I think he'll stay. But curious as to what Phil puts together.

...all you talking he's going to your team, take em...and watch how you lose...it takes five on the floor and when the other four are running on all cylinders Carmelo is a non factor..he has to be standing around dribbling the ball to score...

melo and stat both opt out and  melo signs for around 18 19 mil and stat signs for 9 and we trade chandler and sign lebron lets good

Isn't Pau available? Grab him and trade Chandler and whoever else for a legit pg or pf that is capable of playing in the triangle.

Or if we could somehow manage to grab a 1st round pick via trade in this year's draft, i'd say a guy like Nik Stauskas would be perfect at running phil's offense.

And why Dallas? He is not winning with an aging dirk. Houston has two max players in Harden and Howard and steep tax now coming into effect if three big deals are there. If it's money he stays. If Phil's zen works on him he stays. If he wants to win he is in Bulls red.

How Miami? They have NO money. If lebron doesn't opt out, neither is Bosh and Wade certainly isn't getting money like he is now if he opts out. And they would have to pay a steep luxury tax. It's either chi-town or here

2014 starting five that can do damage in the triangle

Tyson

StAT

Melo

Jr

Shump

YOU DONT NEED A FACILITATOR at the point in the. Triangle, you just need to defend it. Actually, avery bradley would be ideal, but we can't get aguy like that

looks like he's really impatient ...might aswell send him to a contender and out west ....SnT him to Houston for Lin,Asik, Parsons and 1st round pick 2014.......im down for that !

Knicks would atleast get 2 guaranteed starters for their future SF Parsons and C Asik .......both seem like they will strive in the Triangle too .

ps..would have to trade Chandler over THIS summer though .

His interview has me a little scared. Unless PJ comes up with a superplan then I believe Melo is leaving. (a sincere pout)

@Jesus Blas The problem is Chandler wants no part of another losing season. As a free agent on the final year of his contract his consent is required to ok a trade. Can't see him ok'ing a trade to the 76ers. I also don't see a fully rebuilding 76ers team taking on Chandler for a one year rental to off a middling draft pick on a cheap longer term rookie contract. 76ers would have to resign Chandler to keep him or get his ok to flip him again. Why would they go such a convoluted route.

The Melo trade to Houston seems more feasible. But if Melo wants to stay yet avoid another losing season, that is feasible with a different approach to basketball under a new coach who will install system BBall whether its the triangle or otherwise. Sorry, once again it's all just conjecture. But since Howard Beck's name is on the aforementioned conjecture, it's circled around as absolute truth. Nope sorry, I don't buy it.

@Jesus Blas take out STAT insert ,,maybe Lebron in 2015 ...and it looking good !

Look at the bright side it can't get worse with a player such as odom. At least the kardasians are long gone. That's the biggest positive of them all.

17 is the most PJ should offer Melo. Stat should sign for 5 million at most give us a hometown discount. He needs to focus purely on defense and ball movement. I hate stats game he needs to pass the ball more and stop with the tunnel vision. Melo needs some Iq help and stop with chucking up dumb shots and get others involved.

@zebeto  really impatient??? he has been in the NBA for several years and has maybe 3 all star years left. Can you blame him?

@knicksgirl35 This is PHil Superplan!

"Melo, I'm offering you 12Mil for 5 years!. Come back man, I'm not finished....................."

Then Phil lets out a crooked smile!

@rgm891  Amare does not deserve the full MLE at this stage in his career.

There's a reason why after his contract's up he'll go to Israel...There's money over there.

@smiggybalz  Uhh actually I'm not guessing. When you know Lala's cousin, you know the scoops. This one is a 100% guarantee. Melo is going NOWHERE.

And mark down the other scoop I already have. Kyrie will be a Knick within the next 2 seasons. He isn't re-signing in Cleveland.

@xmenreturn @knicksgirl35  I'm starting to get a queasy feeling that you've been right. I mean he even had on a RED hat. A Bulls color. Dammit.

@Jesus Blas @knicksgirl35  I blame Woody for it all. He didn't put Melo nor the team in the position to succeed. He coached ignorant, desperate, lazy bball. I'm glad Baldy the pot head is outta here.

@knicksgirl35 LOL Hang tight. This will be the most talked about topic for many weeks to come and it should.

There are many passionate people on this topic.  So that makes for a very good debate.

As a Knicks Fan, I would like for us to get something for him if he were to leave and I think he's leaving.

But putting myself outside that, I would hope that he decides what's best for him and his family and that he should go to the Bulls if winning a ring is the most important thing to him. That would be some team and he wouldn't have to change much.
