Melo to choose between Knicks, Lakers and Bulls

It seems Carmelo Anthony’s decision is down to the final three teams.

Anthony will choose between the Lakers, Bulls and Knicks, according to reporter Frank Isola (New York Daily News, July 7). Melo is still undecided about where he will land, but a decision is expected later this week (Spears, July 7).

Anthony recently visited Houston and Dallas, but those teams didn’t make his shortlist, according to the report.

The Knicks are reportedly willing to offer him a max contract (TKB, July 3).

Keith Schlosser, Lead Writer

It’s not a big surprise to see the Knicks prepared to play ball with an offer of a maximum contract. Phil Jackson has (quietly) maintained all along that if a maximum contract is truly what Anthony wants, that’s what he’ll get.

Of course, it would be ideal for the superstar to take even somewhat of a pay cut, enough so the Knicks can use such space to help them target another quality player or two in the future.

Having said that, there aren’t too many players of the forward’s caliber in the league right now. The Knicks currently employ one of the best, and if he’s able to buy into Jackson’s vision for success, Anthony is obviously a great starting point for a team to build a championship caliber team around.

How long such a process would ultimately be remains to be seen. With the Knicks, the Big Apple would be Anthony’s oyster. In Chicago, he may have to compete with Derrick Rose as the two aim to share the city’s bright lights. In Los Angeles, Anthony may bask in the Hollywood limelight, but his window for a championship would seemingly only last two years (the remaining time on Kobe Bryant’s contract).

If he can remain patient in the interim, Anthony would receive it all in New York. His own team. The bright lights. The fame. The fortune. Recognition as the team’s true shining star. Perhaps a championship would follow if he enlists his trust in Jackson as well.

Just hope he decides soon to go to LA...this guy is no game changer and Phil knows it.  I believe Phils wants him to leave so that he can reshape the team to his liking which I agree with.  No more Carmeloooooooo Anthonyyyyyyyyyyyyyy at the Garden, good riddance.

Call me crazy but I think this was a very calculated plan by Pat and LBJ. Lebron wants max money . So he opted out first and then met with the other 2 who then opted out. Let his agent play the field at the same time as Melo . Lets see what Bosh can get on the open market. Bosh gets a max deal at 20 mil per , leaves Miami and that then opens the door for Melo. I would be surprised if Melo hasn't already met with Riley in LA.

Im sure Phil has enough savvy to know whats up and eventually will speak up . Watching this game of cards unfold . Personally , I don't think having Melo , Bron and Wade beats SA . they got no bigs if Bosh leaves. Especially if Gasol goes to SA or OKC.

watch Bosh sign , Melo then meet with Riley further delaying the process with the " checking all my options"  mantra

Im sure truth is somewhere in the middle. At least we can possibly do a S&T with Miami .

Is this all boiling down to pat vs phil? As in whatever you can do i can do better?? Is that why lbj hasnt made his decision public? Is this why melo hasnt made his decision public? Melo i dont understand, you wanted to come here, for that i love you, but what changed for you to not want to finish what you started? What about NY and YOUR team is discouraging you? I just dont understand, did u come here because lala wanted u here? Was your heart really here? Urghhhhh i dont get this?????

Where are all the genius's who were promising "We'll know by Sunday night", "We will know on Monday Morning"

We'll know when we know!

Not to mention, the longer Melo and Bron take to "decide" the better it is for the NBA. Right in the middle of baseball, the world cup, tennis…..everybody is talking NBA.  Silver learned well from Stern

This has probably been covered on here before, but if we can sign melo to the max as a free agent, why can't we sign Lebron as a free agent now that he's opted out? I know we can't give LBJ the 5th year and the $$ we can give to our own FA, but can't we sign him for the 4 years? Is that an option?

I hope in 9 years when my son is eligible they are still throwing this money around...

Why does all this feel like the Steve Kerr incident ?!? We all thought Kerr was gonna be the coach then BOOM he signs with the Warriors. I hope we don't get "Kerr'ed" by Melo !!!

New to posting, watching comments on this site since 2011. Really want to believe that Melo is coming back to us, but like Seth said, the longer this goes on, the worse I feel about it.

So here's my take, the longer this takes, the worse it is for the Knicks. My only hope is that Melo is waiting to see if Phil has something up his sleeve so Melo can return without it not just being about the money. Lakers option doesn't make sense but the Bulls certainly does and of course the Rat in Miami is lurking if Bosh leaves. So I'd say it's safe to assume that unless we see a move made by the Knicks, that Melo is gone. To where, that I'm not sure.Edit (in 2 minutes)

So what he goes to the HEAT...that in itself tells you that he's not a leader or game changer; MELO is overrated folks, I wouldn't mine keeping him, but if he leaves nothing major is lost...rather Phil use the money to bring in two pieces that will help this team in 2015.

@rb3b3 the grass is always greener on the other side. Knicks looked great from Denver. That was a long time ago.

I can definately relate to the grass is always greener jabba. But we are talking about 130,000,000 so to me the grass is dead on the other side of the fence. Listen if his heart isnt in ny then i can say proudly melo go fk yourself! Your a fraud. As i said a million times in my heart melo doesnt strike me as as a fraud. People say he cant play defense, i watched every single knick game this year and can say with certainty that melo busted his a$$ on the defense end. He really tried his heart out and avg 8 rebs per game. I guess im just upset because i would be very upset if he left. Plus that would mean our savior the zen master got dinnged twice once by kerr and once by melo. That doent look so good to me. Im a big fan of what zen has done so far, but when push comes to shove he would have been dissed by kerr and melo and that too bothers me as i want to have as much faith in phil then all of you, which i still currently have. If melo leaves he will be taking a piece of my heart and alot of faith i have in phil away with him.

BOSH will take the Houston offer since he has already won two championships...so the money in this case talks!  NO WAY HE LEAVES THAT KIND OF MONEY AT THIS JUNCTURE OF HIS CAREER ON THE TABLE...he's GONE to Houston.

@daymond @knickfan2 nah that aint it. These guys announce these things way before the details are hashed out, and with the new CBA, things are pretty straight forward.

NO doubt that one of three things is happening

1) Melo really can't decide

2) He's waiting on other moves (mostly Lebron, but possibly Riley, Phil and Buss to see what they can do to add better parts)

3) He knows that as soon as he announces, he becomes nationally irrelevant for quite a while, so he'll keep syphoning attention and building that brand.

@BiggieTKB Phil has too much to bring to the plate. With the moves he already made only makes us all believe that the upcoming moves will only be positive.  We all know this.  I just hope Melo knows this as well.

@Mel Brown @zebeto @TKBking  historically speaking. you can also add Boston ............but in recent history to present times, there is no other rival bigger than the HEAT .......add to it its legions of bangwagoner fans ......they are the worst for me .

...maybe living in Miami for 17 years and being a knicks fan has something to do with it .

zebeto

@TKBking @zebeto ...Im a knicks fan ! i want the best for my team, and all who play on my team ........i wont be wishing Melo any postiive vibes to win a chip , especially if he goes to miami .

Richard Alicea

I disagree...it's smart business to ask a player like MELO to take less in order to improve the team and give them a chance to compete for a championship...the HEAT did it with LEBRON, WADE and BOSH taking less...so what makes MELO so special?  He's not even half the player LEBRON is.
