Now that Metta World Peace is officially a New York Knick, all that was left was for him to pick his jersey number. World Peace announced his decision: 51.
According to MWP, he decided on the number because it’s the number his father wore when he played basketball in high school.
The Knicks even posted a mockup to Facebook of MWP wearing his new number:
MWP has worn almost every number there is, with 15 being his most frequently worn (the Knicks retired the number 15 for Earl Monroe and Dick McGuire). MWP’s numbers include: 15 in Chicago; 15, 23 and 91 in Indiana; 93 in Sacramento; 96 in Houston; and 37 and 15 while on the Lakers.
