Murry assigned to D-League

Toure’ Murry has been assigned to the Erie BayHawks and is expected to be in uniform for them on Friday night.

He will return to New York for the Knicks’ game on Saturday, the team said.

Harris Decker

Once again, this is just a formality, giving Murry a little bit of extra time in game situations. While I’d love to see more of him, it doesn’t seem to make sense given how good J.R. Smith, Tim Hardaway Jr., Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni have been playing during the current winning streak.

Not opposed to this move while murray has alot of upside to his game he needs major work...he is raw talent needs some more time to develop into a serviceable and impactful player...

Keep that man active as possible.

You never know when someone is going down.

ESPECIALLY on this team.

Beast...second only to KD with his unconscious month.

Guys, Woodrow only plays young guys when his hand is forced. THJR would still be an unknown had Jr Smith been healthy. Murry will never play meaningful minutes unless Beno and Fat Boy or Prigioni get hurt at the same time.... Same as Tyler, he would be fanning Amare had it not been for him, kmart and mwp all getting hurt at the same dam time!!! #facts

Hoping that Beno gets some more time....showcased, that is.  Get a #2 and an expiring and get Murry back here.  In the meantime ..... put him in asap at Erie and then get C.Smith reassigned to......the E league....

He needs reps at PG. His first few minutes of garbage time he looked really rusty. Got his pocket picked 2 times in nearly 30 seconds then another turnover.  Love this kid but have no problem sending him upstate for a few days to keep him working on his game.

Murry's minutes have been reduced since Pablo and Ray have both come back....i think this is less about Murry than it is about the rotation.  Ray and Pablo start, 5 mins later JR comes in for Pablo and then Pablo goes to backing up Ray until the start of the 3rd.  if the combo of Ray and Pablo is getting it done then i really wouldn't mess with that right now.....as much as i think Murry can help the cause but not at the expense of chemistry and finding the right rotation to play through the 2nd half of the season and hopefully into the playoffs because we all know not everyone is going to get burn come the playoffs

Last time this happened a point guard had a great stat game and game back to the knicks and then this thing called LINSANITY was born!!!!!!!!!!

@Jerry Gee Well it's easier to say that with Shumpert hurt but where are Murry's minutes going to come from when Shumpert is healthy?

Blaze NYK

This is a ridiculous post. Nothing wrong with him going down there to get some in game experience. The team is rolling right now so there isn't gonna be much PT for the young guy.

Murry can play defense. I don't trust him with the ball at all. if I can't trust him with the ball, then he can't be my PG. He is a D League player with NBA defensive skill set.. Just my opinion.

@Elvis Maduro  Murry is a nice project but he's extremely, extermely raw.

He's getting no continuity now that Prigs is healthy, and despite the general opinion on TKB, Felton is fundamental to this team.

Murry still has a long way to go. His handle is suspect, his ability to run the point is very much a work in progress.

He needs as many minutes as he can get, whether it's in the DL or with the Knicks.

@rico If only we could send head coaches upstate to work on their coaching.

@illmatix  That is sad commentary that an NBA coach is that mechanical with his thinking. Players vary from game to game with their efficiency, yet you can predict to the minute when players are subbed. Just think how easy this makes it for other coaches to prepare for us

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@illmatix Not only that but THjr is looking like the next Ray Allen right now so he's got to get his. There really aren't enough minutes to go around for Toure right now so if we can get him some game reps in the DLeague while keeping him available for our games, so be it.

@MeloStat301  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Woodson actually thought there was something wrong.

Mostly to introduce AB to the starting 5.

@MeloStat301 Let's see when they play a real team!  Miami like a small team too as long as they are not really fast and good.

@thatsagoodpoint @illmatix  there should be anyone taking minutes from Junior...I like Murry but he isn't ready to be the first PG off the bench, he has had flashes but he hasn't shown enough to warrant him taking minutes from anyone

agreed with the mins point and getting reps in the d league

@thatsagoodpoint @jerrygee. I just was reminding everyone that Murry won't get burn anyway, because the coach is a bonehead, so why worry about him for now! We could draft a pf like Gordon this year(dreaming) and he'd be on the pine watching Bargnani n Stat n Kmart underachieve!

@Biggie @Jerry Gee  I don`t care what the piece of paper says. I can put my worst player on the court with 4 starters and make their nunber positive because of the other 4. Simplistic statistics like that are simply invalid unless they are configured with other variables. Felton is out of shape and a terrible defender. He holds the ball too long many times and doesn`t give the offense enough time to run forcing an iso. I do watch the games very closely and actually study the game

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@Jerry Gee @Blaze NYK  If you can't see that this team plays better when Felton is in his game, then you gotta start watching games with more attention friend.

12 pts, 9 assists, 1 steal & 5 rebounds....

And if you're a stats person, he had the highes +/- yesterday with +33

I am not a big fan of Felton either but he has been much better of late.

@VerySilentJay @Jerry Gee @Elvis Maduro  He could have played in the 3rd quarter. This coach is terrible at game management. It shows up constantly. Anyone could have coached that team last night. Melo is beasting

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@Jerry Gee @VerySilentJay @Elvis Maduro  I'm saying that he needs as much burn as possible if he's to live up to the potential that's there.

If that means getting time in the DL while the team takes the day off, so be it.

He has the potential to be solid backup, defense first PG. But in terms of running the point, he's a work in progress. His role with the Knicks is just fine.

But needs more burn in the DL.

illmatix
illmatix

@Jerry Gee  it is more about Melo at the 4 and the Ray and Pablo backcourt...JR started in place of Shump.  A healthy Shump goes back to starting at the 3 and JR comes in for Pablo....no dilemma, its what been happening since AB went down it's what they did last season...i don't need help as i am seeing this very clearly

illmatix
illmatix

@Jerry Gee @illmatix @thatsagoodpoint  i am going to use some of thatsagoodpoint's logic here...it is a 3 guard set not a 2 pg set....JR comes in for one of the guards 9 times out of 10 it is for Pablo and Pablo comes back in for Ray.....dude everybody cannot play there are not enough minutes for everyone...I understand you like Murry but his game is not there whereas he should be taking minutes from any of our guards....he is not better than JR, Shump, Pablo, Ray or THJR....thats 5 guards....where are his minutes coming from?

illmatix
illmatix

@Jerry Gee @illmatix @thatsagoodpoint  dude i see you posting during the game so i am going to assume you are watching....how long does Pablo stay in to start the game? 5 maybe 7 minutes? then JR comes in....and then Pablo comes in for Ray in the 2nd.....they are not constantly playing both of them together and i know you see this because this is happening

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@Jerry Gee @illmatix@thatsagoodpoint When Shump is healthy JR will always come in for Pablo. Doesn't matter if Pablo is listed as a PG he doesn't bring the ball up or function as a traditional PG at all. He starts because he's a pest on defense and he helps get us off to good starts. But from that point on, you'll notice JR in with Pablo a lot and JR is used as the primary ball handler. He has a better handle than Felton so his ability to be used as a combo guard lets Woodson play him for stretches as a PG. That's all.

illmatix
illmatix

@Jerry Gee @illmatix @thatsagoodpoint  then it should be Pablo for Ray, if Ray is winded....sorry Murry should not be out there with the first unit, he just doesn't know our main guys sweet spots and tendencies...not a knock on Murry but he just isn't there yet.....what Woodson is doing right now is working, there's no need to change that....Felton has actually played pretty decent during this stretch

illmatix
illmatix

@Jerry Gee @illmatix @thatsagoodpoint  up to Woodson to manage Felton's and Prigs minutes....this is why after about 5 or 7 mins you see a sg come off the bench for Pablo and Pablo comes back in for Ray by the 2nd

you can't keep throwing different PGs out there and expect to get a rhythm with your other players...defined and consistent roles are needed at this stage of the game

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@Jerry Gee @illmatix@thatsagoodpoint It's not so much as a 2 pg set as it is a 3 guard set. Pablo isn't a true NBA pg at this point in his career as he doesn't have the athleticism for it. So if you think about the lineup as a 3 guard set and not box it in to being a 2PG set then you understand that a guy like JR is going to often function as a PG in that 3 guard set. With that in mind Toure really isn't going to steal minutes even though he should.
