NBA to announce Knicks’ 2014-15 season schedule on Wednesday night

Keith Schlosser, Lead Writer

The wait is finally over. On Wednesday night, NBA TV will reveal the league’s entire schedule for the 2014-15 season during an one hour special at 6 p.m. EST.

Needless to say, the Knicks are coming off a rather underwhelming campaign last season. Having said that, the return of Phil Jackson to the Big Apple and the subsequent changes he’s made to the team’s roster this summer has created a bit more buzz  surrounding the squad once again . It’ll be interesting to see how many marquee games (and/or nationally televised ones) New York is featured in.

In any event, the New York Daily News is reporting a couple of early spoilers. The Knicks will reportedly open up the season by playing the Chicago Bulls and will later on in the campaign venture out to London to play the Milwaukee Bucks. As usual, New York will also play on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Knicks will play the Wizards on Christmas Day (Twitter, August 13).

Yahoo Sports! also reports that the Knicks will play LeBron James and the Cavaliers on October 30th.

With baseball, it's about speeding up the game so it's not so boring....

Everybody talking about baseball falling off, its because the Yankees and mets stink right now.  Once the yankees re-up..the bandwagon will be full again...as for the mets...well...maybe their young arms pan out.

its amzing how much baseball has falling off, yet football has taken over, since they are both played at the same speed, both have actually under 9 minutes of action(ball/player movement) the entire game.. this is why i love basketball we get 44 minutes or so of action

Kudos to the NBA!

The NBA has managed to make the off-season interesting to fans. With the draft, free agency and now the announcement of the schedule, it fills the time between Finals and camp.

@jax13  Couple of things they can actually do. Limit pitching changes to once during an inning so that managers can't change pitchers as many times as they will based on matchups. This would cause more scoring.

Speeding up the game itself is not easy. You could have a pitch clock so that not every pitcher treats every pitch in a regular season game like it's the playoffs.

@jax13 the theme with every team seems to be "they can't score runs"

@BiggieTKB just run down the stories of free agents and traded players and when they face their old teams... throw in when LeBron faces san Antonio again, have Dennis Scott say he's excited for the season, some commercial breaks, then boy look at the time, an hour has passed.

@Knicks_Fanatic  It's great for NBA fans but it's kind of sad in a way how much more interesting and entertaining the NBA offseason is than the MLB regular season.

Independent League rules to speed up game.

  • The defensive team will be limited to three "timeouts" per game, in which mound visits or on-field conferences take place with the current pitcher. Pitching changes will not be counted as timeouts, and in the case of extra innings, one additional timeout will be permitted at the start of the 10th inning and every three innings thereafter. Umpires will enforce a strict 45-second time limit on said timeouts. If the umpire's warning is disregarded by the defensive team and play continues to be delayed, the umpire shall declare a "ball" for the batter at the plate. This will limit the number of times play is interrupted by on-field conferences.
  • Pinch runners will be used for catchers as soon as the catchers reach base. This ensures that catchers are suited up quickly to start the next half-inning.
  • The number of warm-up pitches for each pitcher will be reduced from eight to six.
  • When a manager or catcher on the defensive team indicates to the home plate umpire they wish to issue an intentional base on balls, the batter is to be automatically awarded first base without the need for the pitcher to deliver four balls.
  • Umpires will be directed to enforce Rule 6.02 and Rule 8.04, related to hitters stepping out of the box and pitchers delivering the ball within 12 seconds when the bases are unoccupied.
  • Umpires will be directed to control the pace of play. The umpires shall adhere to the entire strike zone as defined in Rule 2.00 and observe that definition when calling pitches balls or strikes.

Oh baseball...... My earliest memories of watching baseball is the 1959 World Series. I remember how strange the LA Coliseum was for a baseball game. Back then, the games moved very quickly. usually it took 2 hours or so to finish a game, unless it was a slugfest. Now baseball is painfully slow. Each pitch is a drawn out tedious event. I guess someone likes.

Watch some classic baseball from the 1960's and see how long it takes between pitches.

@that3agoodpoint @knicksgirl35 did latino american baseball players weaken the league? Was it better when there were more Americans? I'm trying to figure out why it's just not as exciting, there seems to be a lack of personality and character like those of Cal Ripken and Barry Bonds

@Daniel Nguyen @that3agoodpoint @knicksgirl35 I would have to say the opposite. There is a ton personality and maybe to a fault--to the point of obnoxiousness. Moreover, I think there is way more talent in today's game than in the past. Where the game today losses its interest is in the now generation modern technology where its fairly easy to lose focus. Also, I think the young ages of the current athletes in most of the major sports and their close relationships strips away the competitive aspect of the game.

that3agoodpoint
that3agoodpoint

@Daniel Nguyen @that3agoodpoint @knicksgirl35  It certainly was not the rise of latino players.

I really think it's just had more to do with the more interesting athletes going into other sports. And the whole blown out steroid scandal has turned fans off in 2 ways; less scoring and guys are seen as cheaters.

Difference is cheating has always been a part of the game it's in how the media chooses to cover and frame said cheating.

I will never, ever get over Bill Mazeroski's home run off Ralph Terry in the 9th inning to win the 1960 series for the Pirates. My worst sports moment ever.

@BronsonSNY @Daniel Nguyen @that3agoodpoint @knicksgirl35  I hear ya, 'the unwritten rules' and 'playing the game the right way' mumbo jumbo.

A big part of baseball's problem is that MLB almost in its entirety from the league office to the players to the owners to the media all seem to insist upon the importance and sanctity of the game. Ever hear 'the sacredness of the records?" Of course you have.. And it's bull.

Fans of today's generation really don't care about records set 50, 60 years ago. They want to see scoring and MLB through it's rules changes to emphasize a 'cleaner' sport have hindered scoring.

Daniel Nguyen
Daniel Nguyen

@that3agoodpoint @Daniel Nguyen @knicksgirl35 interesting, do you think the game needs new rule changes? I saw in girls softball you can sub your pitchers in and out as much as you want, and there are no closers, your starting pitcher can come back any time, could this help the game?

How are the fans environment? NBA is built a lot by it's fans and it's social media base.

Do you think the MLB alienates african americans, while Bball is life to many blacks?

I always thought baseball was a very international sport, why do I not see more European players? Basketball is full of Euro players like Ginoboli, Gasol, etc.

@Daniel Nguyen  Baseball's worldliness is vastly overstated. It is very popular in select latino nations, Canada, and Asia but that's about it.

I don't think there is much that can be changed as it is still pitcher and hitter.

It's become less and less of an all encompassing cultural sport over the years and that more than anything has led to it's downfall.

And I wouldn't even say it's alienated African American players but just that kids in general aren't playing it like they used to.

greekfreak
greekfreak

@C0P0. That's awesome. Music never goes out of style so there's always gonna be money to be made.. Lucky you, his Mom is a star so she knows the ropes to be successful. Plus, you must have felt like the man when you hooked up with her ;)

From the point of technology affecting one's attention span. There is such an infinity of celestial interactive social networking communities that a major sporting event can be easily ignored by someone being under the heavy influence of those tech outlets. Put it like this----if the 1985 NBA Finals were held yesterday would it hold such unabated viewership in today's tech world of apps, cable networks, texting, social media and coveted cell phones as it did in the spring of 1985? Maybe not because in 1985 there weren't a ton of cable shows, twitter, twitter on cell phones, cell phones, a ton of social media platforms, cable networks, and TV shows to the point where major sport events like the Stanley Cup, World Series, NBA Finals, who played games every two or three days, must now conform to the populated tv lineup and play by the next day. In the spring of 1985, the activity options were rather slim---watch a tv movie or Magic vs. Bird.
