New Knicks assistant has ties to Kevin Durant

Sam Spiegelman

Knicks fans hopeful Kevin Durant will wind up in New York City when he hits free agency, feel free to put together the tea leaves.

First, Durant’s former teammate, Derek Fisher, was named the Knicks’ head coach. Now the Knicks’ newest assistant, Brian Keefe, is being touted as “Durant’s guy.”

According to the New York Post, Keefe and Durant are very close. Keefe was in Oklahoma City for seven seasons. So perhaps the combination of Fisher and Keefe in New York would be enticing for Durant, a free agent in the summer of 2016.

Much-needed cleansing...

maybe kind off off topic .............but slowly im getting back on the Marc Gasol train for 2015 ........his excess pudgyness kinda scared me (long term-injury wise).........but after seeing Spain in the WC , i'm pretty sure Marcs lost solid weight ./////i think the love handles are no more .

if durant was ever in the triangle offense, he will be playing more minutes and score even better than melo alone. but it could get risky when his young guns defense is not enough to compete. he has a winning formula, but whats his downside anyway?

what are the chances durant ever goes to his hometown to play for the wizards?

Is rubio, Martin, Wiggins, young, pekovic and Lavine,  Deng, and Bennet off the bench that bad? I think the wolves made our great that line up fits well together

I'm really trying to stay away from taking part in Duranticipation.....

But I did a lil salary cap numbers work... and it seems like we could do the following:

1. Sign a somewhat major free agent Summer 2015 (Monroe, Millsap, Jefferson, etc... maybe not Gasol...)

2. Sign Durant to a max deal in 2016.

3. Surround our big three with young (still) guys like THj, Larkin, Early, veteran mins (we'd be a nice destination if Durant came through)

4. Win multiple championships

That said.... it would take a lot of coordination and cooperation for something like this to work.... Unless I can get some type of indication from KD that he's trying to be a Knick, I don't even want to consider this.

And please, do people really still think "Melo and KD won't work cause they play the same position"....?

They would dominate together.

2 year deal would have allowed Melo to get the most money from Chicago....it would have been doing what Lebron was doing. If Melo wanted Chicago AND money he could have had it.

Kiyan ruined this place,He will ruin the other place too

@zebeto. According to some on here, the WC doesn't count... SMH... They say Fareid is only doing good because he's playing in FIBA... LMAO

My only issue with Marc is what he will cost. His max will be $20. He's a good player and all but is he really worth second option money? He doesn't take the scoring load off of Melo at all

@K1NG

Lol. Kiyan and Biggie converted already.

If these two changed places, everyone else will follow.

Congratulations Vazzano, you've officially murdered TKB.

Headline says one thing and the article says;

The issue for the Knicks is their lack of salary cap space to place an offer on Monroe and their lack of assets to assemble a trade package. New York could try and offer up the expiring contracts of Amar'e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani if Monroe agrees to sign the one-year qualifying offer. That is likely the only way the Knicks could acquire Monroe before the season or even during the mid-year trade deadline.

@knickfantoo

"ESPN's Kevin Pelton noted that a deal regarding Iman Shumpert and Cleveland Cavaliers' veteran forward Tristan Thompson could work out. The Knicks have too many shooting guards on the roster as is and this would give the team size off the bench."

This is the most relevant part.

I think the my are banning you because they know who you are. To avoid repeat violators I guess.

brookdon

In the east maybe. In the west they are in for years of struggle unless their youngins improve very quickly.

If Melo wanted money and Chicago, he would have taken this deal. That's why I say he always wanted NY

@phenomenal I'm not interested in the old Knick philosophy in waiting 2 years for something that may never come to pass.

That has been the mentality in the past, and history has proven that it stands little chance of success.

zebeto

@brookdon ..i def think Marc is a 2nd tier/option type player IMO ...particularly if he keeps his weight down ......his passing/scoring/rebounding would be greatly appreciated .

@brookdon

Rather Monroe for 15 mil and use the spare 5 mil to help on the Dragic chasing.

Always. The 'Stay Melo' Jordan bran campaign pretty much confirmed what he and his wife said before and throughout the season.

brookdon
brookdon

He averages 14 and 7. He didn't score 30 points in any game last season, and shot 40% from the field in the playoffs from the center position. He isn't a go to guy at all.

brookdon
brookdon

Agree 100%. Not to mention Monroe is only 24 and improving.

@knickfantoo

In order to get Monroe in a sign and trade, we would have to be under the apron at the completion of the deal. So that means we would have to send out $10 million more than we get back. Monroe is looking for around $15 million, so we would have to send out $25 million.

That is possible, but unlikely.

Tuga TKB
Tuga TKB

@knickfantoo

We won't beat them with or without Shumpert anyway. Thompson is a double-double guy. Shumpert can't even crack double digits in one single stat.

We have JR and Hardaway. Healthy guys to play SG.

We have Amare and Bargnani. Unhealthy guys to play PF.

This trade makes too much sense for the Knicks.

no,he did it for his love of the Knicks! get yer head out

@OLDKNICK3 Apparently, "it's all in the TKB guidelines", which I swear, must be unique, because I've never seen such a confusing system for banning posters.

zebeto
zebeto

@brookdon our go to guy is Melo anyways .. hence marc being a 2nd tier guy .......i think he would fit really well under the triangle .

Tuga TKB
Tuga TKB

@zebeto @brookdon

We had Amare averaging 14 and 7. That didn't cut it.

Melo needs more help than that. We need a balanced roster, not to give 20 mil to a 30 year old, injury prone big, averaging 14 and 7.

Tuga TKB
Tuga TKB

@knickfantoo

Wouldn't it make more sense to hold on to Thompson to see if he can increase his trade value (that is already higher) begore the All-Star break as opposed to settling for a SG averaging 8 points per game?

Tuga TKB
Tuga TKB

@K1NG @Tuga TKB @knickfantoo

Someone has to rebound on the Knicks, and we don't have any big signed that averaged double-digit rebounds last year.

We had Shumpert last year...look where it took us. It's easier to find a one-dimensional SG thand a one-dimensional PF. Thompson is a better asset than Shumpert, therefore I believe the Knicks should do this trade 10 times out of 10, if Cleveland calls them.

But I respect you think otherwise, I just happen to disagree.

chitwood
chitwood

how will we know if we havent seen it?

zebeto
zebeto

@Tuga TKB @zebeto @brookdon i get your point ........bigmen are often overpaid anyways , so not much to chose from .....so 15 for monroe or 20 to marc  , kinda similar ,your paying extra 5 mil for a more polished bigman ,who has had success in the PO .

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@K1NG @Tuga TKB @knickfantoo

I doubt the Cavs trade Thompson, unless they get a big in return. He is a horse and has played 82 games the last two years. With Varajao, Love, and Haywood, keeping a healthy PF is is a smart move.

Tuga TKB
Tuga TKB

@K1NG @Tuga TKB @knickfantoo

Clippers starting PF: Griffin
Thunder starting PF: Ibaka
Cleveland starting PF: Love

No wonder these teams want Shumpert instead of Thompson.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@Tuga TKB @K1NG @knickfantoo

Let's remember that OKC offered a supposed late 1st pick for Shump and the Clippers offered Collison, Green, and Barnes for Shumpert and Felton. Not exactly anyone the caliber of Thompson.
