No deal between Clippers and Knicks

Trade talks between the Clippers and Knicks heated up after Iman Shumpert’s diagnosis, but no deal happened before the trade deadline.

The teams were discussing Darren Collison, Willie Green and Matt Barnes for Iman Shumpert and Raymond Felton, but couldn’t come to an agreement before the 3 p.m. deadline passed (Wojnarowski).

The Knicks did not make a deal before the deadline, even though they were heavily rumored to be trying to move Shumpert, Felton and Beno Udrih.

Just reading opinions about Shumpert form some NBA execs.. He's not really thought of very highly by most.  Collison would have been a big upgrade at PG.  Words can't describe how stupid it was to play him the night before the trade deadline if they actually were serious about making a deal.   Did they think Shump was going to  have one of his bi monthly double digit scoring nights.  Herer is a FACT  Darren Collison is a better basketball player than Iman Shumpert and he's twice the point guard Felton is.

Dolan needs to get a basketball person to run the team from the top down.New coach and assistants, new GM and scouts who recognize talent.

Every player not named Melo,HardawayJr and Tyler should be moved this summer to pave the way to 2015.Utilize Chandler,Shump and JR Smith to bring in  at least one solid player.Keep Stat and AB until next year (they expire )and use them to bring in players or picks.

im very happy we didnt do a trade just for the sake of doing a trade...the old knicks would have picked up some contracts past 2017...we didnt affect our cap space for 2015...if melo resigns we will be looking lovely...im personally very happy

leave it to the knicks to suck when they dont have a draft pick and make the playoffs when they have a pick. This organization is so backwards and dumb. I feel like I'm in a abusive relationship i should leave and i just sit here and stay with the knicks.

PS apologies to those who have been or are in an abusive relationship

If someone told me that in Melo's final year the Knicks were going to be in real danger of missing the playoffs, and that Denver would actually wind up with a lottery pick, I would have said that means Melo must have gotten injured and missed the season. It is literally almost impossible in the garbage Eastern Conference, to miss the playoffs with Carmelo Anthony. You have to get absolutely nothing out of the majority of the roster for that to happen. Chandler, JR, Felton and Shumpert are all having such terrible seasons that a 54 win team from a year ago is likely going to have arguably the most disappointing season in team history. When you add the lost lottery pick in a year that is loaded with talent, to the fact that Melo can decide to walk away, it's almost enough to believe that this franchise is cursed. Personally, I think Melo will sign for the full 130m, which I would have no problem with. He's a max player in this league, and unless the Knicks can show him a really good reason to take less money, I don't think he will. Putting him aside, it's really almost a slap in every fan of this teams face, that this coach hasn't been fired. He has been worse at his job, than any player on this team . I haven't seen a coach or manager make as many glaring mistakes as he has this season. Obviously it's still possible to at least avoid the misery of missing the playoffs and losing that lottery pick, but I honestly don't see this team putting together any kind of real streak. Finally, I'm really interested to see if Woodson is stubborn enough to keep a useful player like Beno Udrih, glued to the bench, despite the fact the deadline has passed.

First I would like to say that this is basically the same team that made it to the playoffs last season... I think we have a good team instead of complaining about the hand (Team) we were dealt take the cards (Players) and move it around and make it look like a winning hand (Contending Team).

Now everyone wants to place blame, there is more then enough to go around.I believe it starts from the coaching and down, you can argue the GM but they believed in him coming into the season and are sticking it out. Woodson takes advantage of his power to the point it is hurting the team. For example he benched Beno forever for asking for a trade, why does he want a trade? Because he doesnt get any playing time. He showed possitive results when he did play then he benched him. Also he take the players that are playing with the most energy out the game and don't put them back into the game. Example Tyler shows sparks, first quarter good defense, rebounds, box out and he gives you points and he sits him for most of the game. There needs to be a lineup rehaul start from scratch mix it up to see what suits them best that may mean putting Melo back at the 3.

PG. Pablo P / Beno / R Felton

SG. Tim HJ. / J.R Smith / I Shump

SF. Carmelo A. / World peace

PF. A Stoudie. / K. Martin / J Tyler

C. T Chandler / Aldrich

There are so many ways you can move them around if we utilize what we have there is a chance

IMO if Melo bolts after basically giving the green light to every major move the NYK's have made since he's been here, he's a coward and can't take the heat.  This includes all the trades and FA signings we made, D'Antoni leaving, JR staying, and Woodson Staying.  I have no time and don't want to hear anything from him about the organization didn't try because he basically put his stamp on everything.

We gotta start praying Guitar Jimmy sells the team.... If not, we will never have picks or young players. Strictly over priced, washed up, broken down scrubs.............when's the last time we drafted a point guard?? We've only needed one for the last 15 yrs, not counting Starbury's blessings.... ;)

@kneggyknik  With respect to TKB, a lot of those guys are contributing writers - meaning they're not typically employees, but freelance guys. TKB probably brings them in for big stories or overflow of stories - for example if there were huge trades yesterday, one or two of the guys would bring them in. On the other hand, they also probably write opinion pieces when it's slow.

@akamarb  I dont know about very happy. Its good that they didn't get some scrub who's contract did go til 2018 but they also did nothing to improve a sub .500 team thats looking up at the BOBCATS! What they did is a lateral move, not making a bad move isnt a good move. I have ZERO faith in this team, less than zero in Woodson and Mills. Im on the cusp of giving up on this team this season

@lindro88 I agree with everything you say, except the part where you are fine with Melo getting 130m.

That would make Melo the #1 highest paid player in the whole NBA.  He's not the best player in the NBA, that would basically doom us to non-contention forever.  I hope we can sign him for 100m/5yrs

@orlando_knickfan It wasn't Melo...Look to no other than Mark warketein...The advisor...who worked in Denver.

Warkentien, who was hired by Donnie Walsh and has a history with Carmelo Anthony with the Denver Nuggets, is the most logical choice if Mills isn’t looking outside the organization. Warkentien came to Knicks just before Dolan, the Garden chairman, took over the Anthony trade negotiations from Walsh.

Mills has called Houston an up-and-coming executive but the former Knick doesn’t have the experience in managing the salary cap. Mills in some ways is also learning on the fly and needs a more seasoned basketball guy.

When Mills was named as Grunwald’s replacement, he talked about revamping the organization’s philosophy and hinted at moving more toward analytics, which is now a trend in the NBA. Warkentien’s background isn’t in analytics as much as it is in assembling talent dating back to his days as Jerry Tarkanian’s top recruiter at UNLV.

@orlando_knickfan  I agree especially after all of the things he's said in the media. People compare him to Dwight with the Lakers last year but i don't think the two are anything a like Dwight got nothing but criticism in LA where as Melo for the most part only gets praised.

People are acting like this team is in a lot worse of a position than they really are. Yes this is a terrible season but next year under a new coach this team has a chance to compere all the talent is there its just not being utilized correctly.

Also after 2015 we have all the cap room in the world to sign another star or a bunch of role-players so even if next year dosent work out it only one more season. Realistically unless Melo goes to Miami which i still don't see happening he docent really have a chance of going anywhere and winning a championship next season

Wrong.... Collison is a good player.  I don't want to act as if Im some kind of scout, but I watch a S- load of NBA .  Collison stepped in when Paul went down and the Clippers didn't miss a beat.  Not just because he had talent around him, look at his numbers while Paul was sidelined, and look at the Clippers record.  He has gotten better. Practicing with Chris Paul and hanging around that guy makes young pg's better.  Look at Bledsoe.  Anyone think he'd turn into a 20 point a game scorer?  I didn't.  I thought he was a good defender and a backup  PG.  He goes to the Suns and before he got hurt was playing like an all star.  Collison could have been the starting PG for the next 5 years if he continues to develop.  Nothing was going to change the big picture this season, but if with a good PG, I believe the Knicks could catch the 8 seed and avoid the misery that is coming.  When Denver picks that ping pong ball, we better hope they end up picking late in the lottery, because if they get lucky and wind up with an elite talent, the Melo trade will turn out to be the worst in Knicks history.  Not because of Carmelo Anthony, but because we allowed an unprotected first rd pick to be dealt, something I have not seen any team do before or since.,

@Kiyan Carter  He came because of STAT, not the same thing. That is also not the NYK's fault that his knees fell apart. You think the Nets planned on DWill being a $98m bench player?

lindro88

@onewhoknix @Kiyan Carter  Collison is twice the player Felton is.  Felton is a 9th tier pg the way hes playing.   There are college pg's playing at a higher level.  The guy is going through personal problems and Im sure that has something to do with it.  When he is focused and healthy he showed hes serviceable, but the Felton we have.... The Clippers didn't even want him back as a backup.

onewhoknix
onewhoknix

@Kiyan Carter difference meaning playoff run. Collison is what he is and that's a third tier PG. Raymond is a fourth tier.

You're giving Melo way to much credit. I don't think he had anything to do with Tyson (that was a complicated deal). He wanted a second scorer but I doubt he asked for Bargs. We were going to keep Lin until the poison pill (at least that was the plan). We signed JR because we had the exception and it was a great pickup for the price. K-Mart was Melo's friend

smiggybalz

That just shows you that an idiot like Melo shouldn't be running the team

Melo isn't the GM. I'm sure he wanted the same team back that won 54 games. As for Bargnani, why wouldn't he green light it? He was thinking this team could win 54 games again and contend. No way he's worrying about a draft pick.

Do you think melo had no input on:

@orlando_knickfan  Every other team in the NBA knew it was a bad idea to give stat any sort of long term, big contract. His knee's were basically a ticking time bomb, and they exploded a year after he got here.
