Sam SpiegelmanWhen the Carmelo Anthony free agency rumors subside? They probably won’t.
For all of the discussions about how Phil Jackson’s presence within the Knicks organization or the Lakers’ new coach and roster will impact Anthony’s decision, another suitor may emerge.
According to the New York Post, the Rockets will make a push to land Anthony this summer. The team is cap-strapped having to pay big-time salaries for Dwight Howard, James Harden and Jeremy Lin, but the team is considering a sign-and-trade. Houston engaged with the Knicks about trading for Anthony before February’s trade deadline, per the report.
The trade included embattled Rockets forward Omer Asik, with whom Rockets President Daryl Morey has been reluctant to deal. But according to the Post, Morey would be willing to part way with Asik in order to create Houston’s own “Big Three.”
