Pablo Prigioni told a friend that he hopes to reach a deal with the Knicks “real soon,” according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
On Tuesday night, an Argentinian basketball website reported that the Knicks had offered Prigioni a two-year deal.
Prigioni made just under $1 million last season with the Knicks. He is a restricted free agent.
If the Knicks can bring back Prigioni then that is something they must do.
He was very good in his first year in New York and really helped propel the Knicks at the end of the season. He was a big reason they won twice in Boston and in Game Two against Indiana.
From the looks of how the roster is being constructed early in the off season, it seems the Knicks are ditching the two point guard system for next season.
If that is the case, Prigioni is still a very good option to have as your back up point guard. He is a pass first, pass second and when in doubt look to pass before shooting kind of point guard.
His ability last season to get the ball moving freely within the Knicks offense was a huge plus and he showed that he can make the three and do so consistently.
It makes too much sense for the Knicks to bring him back and let him get 15-20 minutes each night off the bench to help Felton and the second unit.
