Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena, in Miami, the Knicks (14-4) defeated the Miami Heat (12-5) by the score of 112-92. Box Score

Jason Kidd had 11 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and was a +31

The Knicks made 18 3′s tonight and have made a combined 37 three pointers against the Heat this season.
The Knicks had six players in double figures including Steve Novak having 18 off the bench which was second on the team.
The Knicks outscored the Heat 59-39 in the second half.
The Knicks bench outscored the Miami bench 57-19
The 20 point loss was the worst home loss for the Heat since Lebron, Bosh and Wade signed with them.
Matthew Falkenbury, theKnicksBlog.comBefore the game began, we got the bad news that Carmelo Anthony would not be playing tonight due to his injured left middle finger. I know all of us wanted to see the Knicks win, but were not too confident in that fact when Melo was ruled out. Heck, Charles Barkley before the game started wasn’t shy in saying that he gave us no shot at all to win tonight without Melo. Well almost three hours and 18 three pointers later, the Knicks had not only beat the Heat in Miami, but blew them out to give them the worst home loss since the big three came to South Beach. This was a fun win to see and the Knicks have made it known they are for real and a serious threat to Miami in the Eastern Conference.
Lets start with Raymond Felton who stepped up his game tonight with Melo out to be both a facilitator and a scorer for the Knicks tonight. His shooting from downtown was big all night especially in the third quarter when the Knicks began to pull away. I think a play that may get forgotten because of the big third quarter was the three he hit before the end of the half. The Knicks survived the first half with the game tied after Felton’s three and capped a 10-3 run to end the half. The Knicks came out in the 3rd and Felton scored nine of the first 11 driving the lane and hitting from deep. He was in control with the ball, helped with the great ball movement and oh yeah, did it all with a bone bruise in his left hand.
What a performance by the Knicks bench tonight. Outscoring the Heat bench 57-19 was only the beginning for this unit as when asked to play more minutes than normal with Anthony out tonight, they stepped up and helped put the Heat away. J.R. Smith did not score in the first half but was key in the second half scoring 13 points including a big two handed dunk in the fourth that put the Heat away for good. Smith also added six rebounds and four assists as well for a nice all around performance after his buzzer beater the night before. Steve Novak was on fire in the game as he knocked down four three pointers and hit big shot after big shot when the Knicks needed it. Then you have Rasheed Wallace who added 12 points and seven rebounds and as Steve Kerr mentioned on the broadcast did a nice job defensively when Chandler was on the bench.
Tommy Dee, our leader here at The Knicks Blog is not shy about his love for Jason Kidd and after a performance like tonight, one day after returning from Back Spasms, mind you, proves that we should all love him. While Dwayne Wade was a -33, Kidd was a +31 and his ability to find the open man, shoot the set shot from three and just be the straw that stirs the ball movement drink is so much fun to watch. The Knicks are happy to have him back and he has been a key in the Knicks great start to the season.
I thought this was a funny stat line from the box score. Kurt Thomas, Pablo Prigioni and James White were a combined 8-8 from the floor with 18 points while Bosh and Wade were 6-25 for 25 points.
The Heat in the first half seemed to be on cruise control for the most part which has been a criticism of their play so far this year. There was a stretch in the third quarter after falling behind 18 points that they made a run that cut it to 9 points but the Knicks wouldn’t let them get any closer. They withstood the storm that Miami had when making that comeback and did a great job again keeping the Heat to mainly being a jump shooting team. In the first game they played, I remarked about how they didn’t allow the Heat in the paint, and they did that again tonight. Miami is gonna battle the Knicks for the top of the East, but now they know the Knicks aren’t going anywhere this year and the East is not Miami’s to lose.
In my opinion this win ranks up there with the win in San Antonio and the one thing about those two road wins is that Melo only scored nine points combined, sitting this one out with an injury. Now lets not get crazy and think that they could do this without Melo for the long haul, but it shows that even with their best player out for the whole game, they can step up on the road and put the hammer down on the World Champs. A six game winning streak and now a five game winning streak already for the Knicks this season, lets see if they can make it number six against the Bulls on Saturday.
Coming up next, the Knicks now head off to the Windy City for the first time this year as they take on Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. The game will begin at 8:00 pm on Saturday and will be shown on MSG
